Big picture question for y’all. I’m truly puzzled.

Collectively speaking, the highly paid professional coaches polled put Illinois far ahead of IU. OTOH the betting public gives a slight edge to IU. Furthermore, the betting public has significantly underestimated the Illini this season. So tell me please, which group has deeper, more credible insights? In your minds, why would the spread trump the coaches polls?
The betting public underestimates Illinois. The media and coaches underestimate Indiana. Cignetti is like "Mr Double Digit Win" guy. Indiana could lose this game and will still probably end up with 9-10 wins.

This is legitimately a matchup of two of the best coaching staffs in the Big Ten. There are hardly any 4 star recruits on either team. It legitimately feels like a toss up game. If either program starts landing 10+ ⭐⭐⭐⭐️ recruits a year, then the OSUs and PSUs of the world are in trouble.

Hoosier grad/fan here. I expect this game to be a Classic for both programs. Both fan bases have been jaded by a history of blunders on the football field and it takes time to overcome the negative thoughts of how the ugly will unfold on any given Saturday. Also, both fan bases are bolstered by great success last season and expectations are high for this season as well. We can all compare schedules and games until the cows come home and still feel uncertain until the final whistle blows on Saturday night. Unfortunately, as a diehard IU fan (given IU's horrible history) I am convinced the winner of this game will get a pat on the back by the pollsters because the loser will be deemed an over rated mediocre team because neither team has UM or OSU on the jerseys. ILL has the upper hand in that regard due to coming into the game ranked #9. Here's to a great game under the lights in B'town; an overtime nailbiter might be the best outcome for both teams regardless of the eventual victor.

Of course anything can happen on any given Sat.
Illinois is the better team. Illinois has better coaching.

Execute and don’t turn the ball over and this is a 2 TD W.

Just bring the Paign to Blosington.🧡
I disagree. It's pretty even. Alabama and Florida fans want Cignetti and his staff to replace their current coaching staffs. These guys won 11 games with a bunch of JMU guys last year. Bielema, Lunney, and Henry are really good too. The talent is pretty similar. I think Indiana has a little more depth on offense and in the Secondary. Front 7s are similiar.

Well, if Alabama and Florida fans want him, he must be really good. Those fan bases are known for being objective and even-keeled.

I remember Mike Woodson, stepping down after our basketball game against Indiana University last winter. Maybe our University of Illinois football team can facilitate Kurt Cignetti’s exile after this weekend.

Oh no. An Indinia fan disagrees with me.

stop it. :) we want to hate you (this week anyway), and its hard when you speak intelligently and objectively reasonably.

You might also have trouble hating this IU fan for this too; here's to ILL upsetting OSU later in the season and IU upsetting Oregon then we meet again in the Big Ten Championship. Penn State you might ask ??? Unlike last season I expect them to trip up somewhere along the way other than to OSU (as in IU upsets them too).

After looking at Indiana's schedule, I actually think this game is not getting enough hype. Both teams pretty desperately need this win for CFP hopes.

Indiana still has road games @Oregon and @PSU. That's 2 losses, so if they pick up their 3rd against us they are done.

Having said that, if they win against us the rest of their schedule is relatively simple. I see them going 10-2 if they beat us. And I don't see more than 4 B1G teams going to the CFP. So even if we can bounce back from a loss here and get to 10-2, we aren't getting in over IU.

Obvious caveat - College football is crazy, its only week 4, and anything could happen. But if we make some reasonable predictions on how the season plays out, I think this is about as must win as must win gets for CFP hopes for both teams.

Penn State will NOT lose against Indiana. They own them. Oregon will beat them up at home. IU ABSOLUTELY HAS TO WIN AGAINST US. We could still get in even with a loss but we could only lose 2 games and Indiana would have to lose against another team. IOWA?
