I wonder if he already has that range and we just don't see it much because of our strategic decision not to shoot mid-range twos? Kinda seems like with our offense, you're either a layups guy or a layups and threes guy - not much middle ground. Even MD's mid-range game is primarily used out of a backdown situation to keep defenders honest and open up layups.
Shannon and Domask have been shooting pull-up 2s all year. If it was an efficient shot for him, I’m sure he’d have the green light.

I think we often forget these players are teenagers or very close to it. How many stupid mistakes did you make? You learn from any of them and mature?

Not saying everyone deserves forgiveness for every action but sometimes it’s best not to judge someone who is willing to become a better person.

Personally I don’t worry over things like helicopter parents or previous legal issues. If they were serious and a kid was not a half way decent person I truly don’t think BU would recruit him.

I’ll be there for this one. I know the Purdue game was an emotional one. I hope they can rebound and beat Iowa. Being from the Illinois side of the QCA, it would be great to beat them in their house.

Someone (Fighter) can do the research on this, but I remember reading or hearing one time that teams come out hot and then fall flat on celebratory nights (Ring night, senior night, etc). It had to do with all of the adrenaline in conjunction with the long day/night instead of being in your established routine. The idea was that the adrenaline typically was gone at the start of the 2nd quarter/2nd half. I'm not saying that's what happened to us on Tuesday, but I fully expect it to happen this weekend.

Bardo suggested they ought to have all the senior night festivities post-game, rather than pre-game. He suggested that when we walked out to center course with parents on senior night, memories were flooding his mind, all he could do to keep from tearing up.

I watched him from about 15 feet away in Madison shooting 8-10 footers during warmups. Every one I saw (not exaggerating) was short and flat and bounced off the front of the rim. He was doing this during the 3-pt shootaround line. Everyone else tried 3s and when his turn he would dribble to 8-10 feet and shoot.

Not pretty.

I love Ty for the things he does well, but his lack of in-game shooting is not because Brad hates mid-range shots. It's because Ty (today at least) cannot shoot.
Battle89--we were at the Kohl Center as well , and saw the same thing you did with Ty. His shot not only wasn't smooth, nor even close to smooth--it was terribly mechanical. It looks like he is really battling something because it was painful to watch. Let's hope he can work through this and develop some sort of offensive game more than 3 feet from the basket. He is an incredible athlete, and I love having him as an Illini. His upside can be huge...

Fran restores calm by reciting the mantra he learned from Frank Costanza, "Serenity NOW!!!" Here's to hoping the Illini make him blow through all his timeouts and then lose his manure at least a dozen times.

Most likely scenario at this point is to play Iowa again in the Quarters of the BTT. Beating them twice in a row in back to back games away from home will be tough, but it would be quite lovely. Back to backs are pretty rare in the B10, but it certainly helps cement rivalry status. If you don't utterly hate the players on the other other team after facing them back to back, you're doing it wrong. Let's put on a show and go 2 for 2 letting them know we're the reason why they missed the tourney

Ty is making free throws at least decent now so maybe there is hope for a free throw line extended jumper in his future? He for sure needs to watch Domask and learn that bully ball as a 8 foot turn around from him would be a tool tough to stop?

It'd be funny if he was a chill, fun drunk.

To my Loyalty friends who live in the Quad Cities, I understand the importance of any Iowa game. I grew up an Illini fan in nearby Aledo, and it was always interesting going to "the Cities" and having to mix with a bunch of Squawks fans. It wasn't until I went off to college that I learned to hate Michigan (particularly my junior year - 1989) and Indiana as well, but an Iowa game always brings that extra will to win in dominant fashion.

Its that old adage: Why does corn lean westward in Illinois? Cause Iowa sucks & Indiana blows.

Insiders, how's TSJ doing after that Purdue game? Frustrated? Angry? Depressed?

It pretty much goes without saying, but this team will need him to bounce back and quickly. Can't let one rough game turn into four.

While the layout and aesthetics of this arena are utter crap (not to mention the hysterical roof that looks like it was never finished), it has two objective positives:

1. There really is not a bad seat in the entire place ... great sightlines.
2. With that flat ceiling, it can get LOUD. This has been a rarity due to meh attendance and a usually pathetic student section, but the "bones" are there for a really tough place to play ... and when you hear guys like Bardo talk, it clearly used to be in the 1980s.

I couldn't believe it was this many as I typed this, but I have witnessed the following in person at that arena:

2003: Iowa 68, #8 Illinois 61 ... my first ever Illini game of any kind as a third grader!
2004: #23 Illinois 78, Iowa 59 ... Orange Krush appearance.
2005: #1 Illinois 75, Iowa 65 ... still one of my favorite memories as an Illini fan. 6,000 orange-clad fans and the Krush for the second straight year. A GREAT game where we pulled away late. At times, the arena got so loud because of US. Would kill for a full vide of this game.
2006: Iowa 63, #6 Illinois 48 ... crashing back down to Earth after 2005. :(
2008: Illinois 58, Iowa 47 ... one bright spot of this letdown of a season!
2010: Illinois 57, Iowa 49 ... I believe this is the year the Krush sat RIGHT behind the basket because there were so few people there, lol.
2010-11: #23 Illinois 87, Iowa 77 ... I just remember us raining threes.
2013: Iowa 63, Illinois 55 ... such an annoying loss in the middle of our "turnaround" that season
2015: Iowa 68, Illinois 60 ... yet another Krush trip but not a lot else to remember here...
2017: Illinois 70, Iowa 66 ... I remember Malcom Hill sinking free throws to ice it.
2019: #23 Iowa 95, Illinois 71 ... OUCH.
2023: Iowa 81, Illinois 79 ... GREAT game and a lot of fun, but we came up just short. As my dad said, "It's hard to beat someone six times in a row!"

TL;DR
Three constants in all my visits to Carver to see the Illini:

1. Iowa will throw everything they have at us ... the mutual hatred is real, and they always seem to get up for the Illini.
2. On that note, it will be very loud (almost always their best crowd of the year or close to it) and Iowa will shoot well ... we need to out-tough them and shoot well ourselves.
3. Illini fan presence has ranged from more moderate contingents to massive takeovers of 6,000+ fans and the Krush. However, I don't think I've ever been there where it wasn't close to 1,000 or more. While I am sure Iowa fans bought a lot of those tickets ... I'll bet that it's not sold out without a decent chunk of Illini fans traveling.
