Not gonna happen on this one. Sorry. My hope is we play competitive and can carry that over to PSU and close out with a W.

Malcolm Hill led the charge for Illinois last time with 28 points. Thought it was his best game of the season last year. Let's see if he can one up that by scoring 30+.

Maryland has lost 3-of-4 and hasn't really played up to its enormous potential in some time, maybe no this year. The last time they really blew a team out was January 16th against Ohio State.

I'm pretty confident that this doesn't turn out well for Illinois, but it might not be as remarkably embarrassing as the Michigan State or Indiana games.

Maryland 81, Illinois 71

Melo has struggled as of late, thus explains why Maryland has struggled as of late.

Considering we gave up 19 points to a walk-on pg at the SFC the other day, I predict Melo breaks out of his slump and the Terrapins win by 18. Could be more, but I suspect Trimble is playing with an injury of some sort.

Their bigs will crush us on the boards. Not gonna be pretty. Can we get this season over with already?

A blowout could be a positive as it would give Groce the opportunity to rest Hill and Nunn and focus on pulling off the upset at Penn St. (sad to write "pull off the upset at Penn St.")

Hmmm, if I remember correctly from a previous game... Calhoun had good insight you could just never understand what he was saying. Does that sound right to anyone else?

If the last part of that quote is true, then how would you know the first? :D

We're one of only two schools in the conference with the "honor" of playing their final two games on the road. The other is Wisconsin
The two schools that balance this out with their final two game at home are Rutgers and PSU.
Everyone else has one at home and one on the road.

We are the only team in the Big Ten to play Rutgers & Minnesota twice.

John Groce teleconference

Groce: Maryland defense reminds me of Purdue with size and athleticism. Great at both ends. Melo gifted and dominant PG

Groce: People assume Hill and Nunn did all leading. They spearheaded it. Lewis and Morgan both stepped up too.

Groce: There will be a few wrinkles and adjustments during games. But at this time of year, bulk of who you are is who you are.

Groce: For us to get there, you need your upperclassmen to help coach your team. Been challening them. Stepped up last few days

Groce: We prefer to run and play in transition. We want to do that, but best transition teams are best defensive teams.

Groce: Really our offense was able to feed off defense, ability to get stops, deflections, steals and first-time rebounds.

Vegas consensus has UI +14.5 pts. Most number of points all year.
Illinois State got 12.5 pts in late November @ Maryland.

Upon further review that Illinois State game was at a neutral site in Cancun. ISU did cover they only lost 77-66.

How would you all compare JCL's freshmen year with that of Deron William's and Dee Browns?

I honestly thought there was something wrong with my TV and turned the sound off. He was completely unintelligible. Maybe they should offer closed captioning when he's on.

Completely unintelligible is correct. Vowed I'd never listen to that again, so it'll be radio tonight. Can't believe ESPN hasn't dumped him by now.

Wish IL State could return to their glory days like I know the Illini will. I went to a game back in '77 when ISU was ranked and playing Larry Bird and IN State. The game was nip and tuck and ended early because a huge fight broke out. The next year Bird and IN St came back ranked #1. They had some decent years under Bob Bender and especially Kevin Stallings but have fallen off since. It'd be great to have both teams doing well again.
