Hope the long week off doesn’t hurt us. Crazy we played 9 games in around 3 weeks and now we have one in a week. Thanks schedule maker.

It has definitely been an issue for years. Coaches prioritize, they have to. Like "we haven't time to teach the principles of truly effective zone play" or "we do NOT give up uncontested threes", or ... whatever. But plays involving inbounding the ball are not a small part of the game. At all. It is strange how little emphasis BTN analysts and on up the food chain place on considering this fact. (Yes, fact.)

Once upon a time we had a coach who was incredibly good at coaching baseline and sideline out of bounds plays. Of course, he had other issues and had to go (I completely agree with that).

So again, one of the factors involved here is priorities regarding practice time as well as team philosophy. But I wish our program would up the priority level a bit on inbounding the ball. I will say it again: it is strange how little discussion there is regarding this topic considering just how many points CAN be scored, and how many games won, by excelling in this seemingly small phase of the game. But what do I know ....
Bro orangecrush ... good point. But over the long season, turn overs and missed free throws plague the Illini and many other teams. Take care of the ball and make free throws

I'm oddly confident that we win at Sparty. We seem to play well in big games, and I think our guys recognize this as a big one. Plus, the Sparty guys are probably starting to feel like we have their number. Firmly re-establish us as above Sparty in the bb pecking order.
Not oddly, I do not feel confident in any way about winning in East Lansing on Sat.

Now, if CoHawk continues to play aggressively and smart on offense and TSjr., Harmon, and Q can step up closer to their potential game, a win is quite likely. But we have not seen those three play consistently well for a couple of weeks from a shooting perspective. Goode going 4 for 5 from the arc would be huge for a positive Illini outcome. Oddly, DD seems to be pretty consistent on offense lately and is sorely needed....good for him.

The success of this team is dependent upon their depth and defense. When we get contributions of an avg. level, the sum is greater than the parts. Togetherness and playing their roles with competence is the key....and that has been missing for a month...which leaves me apprehensive of the outcome. Hope our guys feel the love and play inspired from the tip-off.

It has always seemed like a cluster to me, but I fully acknowledge my lack of understanding of it. I can't recall seeing it in past seasons, though perhaps that's because I can't recall seeing it badly botched. Still can't figure out how to coach it so it works systematically. I asked in the postgame thread for someone to explain it to me, as obviously it must work if coaches use it. No answers yet.
I think it's fine, just maybe let Hawkins inbound it instead of Harmon. He really struggled all the way around against Nebby, and that included inbounding the ball.

It looked like when they ran it last night nobody even really threatened deep and everyone was going about 75% speed. Like 3 guys took a couple steps then stopped and turned around. Definitely an execution problem. Luke is a former QB, why can't he draw up a designed route tree in the huddle
Just about any inbounds play where the defense is denying the inbounds pass requires the offensive players to make a cut...but you have to come back to the ball (inbounds pass)....I think the last inbounds play the Illini players were cutting but didn't come back and meet the pass...they were moving away from the pass and that allowed Nebraska player to get a hand on the ball

next 6 games are must win for Illinois to win B10 championship. We are one game behind. Purdue IF we beat them at home we can tie but we will need to run the table including winning @ Wisconsin.

Purdue might lose @ Illinois and or at home vs Wisconsin. Otherwise their schedule is much easier than ours - next 5 games are against B10 cellar dwellers.

18 - 2. Maybe 17 - 3 with a loss to our beloved.

This is a big one. Lets play loose and put some things together…come outta’ there with a massive win.

I want to see them working together, unselfishly, for the best shot. When they play like that, no one can beat them, the scoring is balanced and confidence grows. They're getting there, but time is of the essence. Every single game is a challenge, but they show no sign of quit or uncertainty. Glad Brad is using the bench more, strong legs win tough games.

The past makes me very nervous about this one. I hope we win, but doubt we will. No matter the records, nobody wants to play against Izzo in the Breslin center.

This game, along with wisc/purdue are the only games left I’d be ok with a loss in.

That being said I need to see energy and effort. Punch them harder than they punch us and if we don’t come out on top so be it.

Not an easy environment, nor is MSU a push over, but we need the coaching staff and leaders on this team to have the rest of the guys fired up and ready to give it all.

I can't see us winning at Maryland. I think this MSU game is a better chance at a road win than that one.

Im never ok with losing at home. I know Purdue is good but top 10 teams shouldn't lose at home. Thats why the Maryland loss stings so much.

Ok fair. I didn’t mean I would be ok with it exactly, more so I can reason with a loss against those three.

And you’re right, if we want to be a top 10 team we can lose to teams like MSU. A win Saturday would be pretty convincing imo.

It’s crazy to me how few games we’ve put out of reach in big ten play. Really just nw. Would be great to have a few more of those.

while blowout wins are nice and hopefully gets some of our freshman some minutes - but really want Q1 wins and home wins. @HailtotheChief

After last year 2-12 in Q1
and this year 3-4 in Q1
