First time watching MSU tonight and I think it's clear that we are the more talented and overall better team. That doesn't mean we will win, but we absolutely have a good shot of going in there and winning.

They’re gonna be extremely physical. This game will hinge on how closely the officials call the game and whether Tomi and Morez can stay out of foul trouble.

I also expect the gameplan will be to give Frankie Fiddler the Joey Galloway treatment — date him to shoot threes until he proves he can make them consistently.

This is what Loren Tate always called an "opportunity" game. Not much to lose, but a whole lot to win. If we're shooting well when we get open looks from distance, I think we win.

Disgusting.
Recall him regularly intentionally mispronouncing "Ayo" using a long-A vs a long-I sound (think "Hay" vs "eye") as a dis - bush league.
It's always been kind of amusing to me that we hold this over Izzo's head (there's a short joke in there somewhere). BU mispronounces his own players' names sometimes and it's never struck me as intentional, disrespectful, or bush league.

agree. I found the video in question and while he certainly grossly mispronounces Ayo's name, it's not obviously intentional. Other than his comments defending his guy (and we all know Izzo's wrong, but we also all know he's got to do that as the HC of MSU), what he said is what you would expect an opposing coach to say. I dislike Izzo as much as the next fan, but his mispronounciation of Ayo's name doesn't even make the top 100 list of reasons why.

No way to know if intentional, but he's talking about a 1st team AA and POY in the conf his own team plays in, so if he doesn't know his name after hopefully watching a couple of our games (at least) to prepare for a game against us, then he is just a complete idiot in that case lol

I doubt he has the sound up when reviewing film, so that wouldn’t help pronunciation. And likely rarely used his name but rather referred to him by number in team setting. But yeah, always seemed weird. Still, seems like a long way to go or pretty silly to do it intentionally as an insult. As I get older, I can see it as just one of those instances when one repeatedly mispronounces names/words even when you’ve been corrected. A mental block if you will. Cuz I think he did it in multiple postgame pressers.

Just like last year, we are the much much much better team. Issue will be Izzo on top notch crybaby alert. Hes going to have himself quite the afternoon and it will greatly annoy all of us. Refs will bow down to him just like they did last night against Penn State.

Illinois 97
Sparty 64

wonder how he's gonna do with KJ? I felt the same way about his mispronunciation of Ayo's name btw and I think he knew what he was doing. He did it for us. :)

I totally agree w/both of you. I also believe Izzo did it on purpose - just that's like my opinion

I think from the impartial fan's view it's plausible it was an honest mistake - especially back then. Izzo has a little bit of national notoriety these days with his more recent anti portal (and thus anti-player) statements but back then his reputation was near impeccable. He said it incorrectly but with no real facial expression to confirm he did it intentionally - no smirk, no eye roll, etc. I don't like the guy and think he's a real self-important jerk, but I think that's mostly based on my Illinois degree/fandom, my dad is an MSU grad combined watching any ILL MSU pre, during, and post game activities much more closely than the average fan.

After viewing Mich. St and Pedo St. last night, I really don't see any need to be at all concerned about this game unless we blow. I really think we win this by 20.

I thought the same at first but Hicks played well and Puff Johnson and Ace were on the court. Its not quite the same team we played.

Methinks that Ace and Hicks playing/playing well had something to do with Illinois' defense.

I think this will be very close. But the have not shown the capability to shoot from outside and I think we balance the rebounding out to even in this game. We should a decent 45% and win 75-67.
