Not sure if anyone will call this a winnable game, but my guess is we'll be 10.5 pt dogs. Won't be a bad loss if they drop it.

Understand Cassius Winston is limited for Western Michigan game tonight. He has a bone bruise on his left knee. We will probably need every edge we can get.

I looked at their losses... Kentucky ,Duke, and Virginia Tech. Northwestern stayed within 5.

There was an article about Cassius Winston I read about a week ago. Don’t remember if it was posted here or Reddit. It was about how he’s still coping with the loss of its brother, and it’s affecting every facet of his life, including basketball. A lot of people are able to use their sport to escape, but his brother was a basketball player too, so there’s really no outlet for him.

It was a tough read. Just hope for the best for him.

Thanks FiveStar. As much as I dislike Izzo as a foe coach, I can't imagine a better coach to support a player going through a loss like that.

Every conference game is winnable. There is no super elite team in the conference (or in the country) this year.

I don't believe the Izzone is in full force either. Should be a great time of year to be playing in East Lansing.

Our Illini has a tough starting schedule to the B10 conference. Maryland, Michigan, Michigan St., & Purdue. If we get through this at 2-2, then we will be ok. BTW, 3-1 would be amazing, & 1-3 would be tough to come back from.

Hopefully, Winston is not at full strength they are a little flat looking forward to the home game at Michigan on 1/5. Against Mich and Mizzo we made 3 out of 25 3's. Difficult to see us beating anyone on the road if that continues. Hope springs eternal

2. Michigan State
  • Record so far: 9-3 overall, 2-0 in the Big Ten
  • My preseason Big Ten ranking: No. 1
  • Current national ranking: AP No. 14, Coaches No. 18, kenpom.com No. 5
  • Best win(s): Seton Hall, Georgia, UCLA, Rutgers
  • Worst loss: Virginia Tech. No harm with losses to Kentucky and Duke.
  • Next conference game: Jan. 2 vs. Illinois
  • The skinny: Michigan State was ranked No. 1 in the country to start the season, but got bounced promptly after a season-opening loss to Kentucky. We’ve found out that’s no big deal, though, since we’ve already gone through five No. 1 teams in seven weeks. This is my first controversial choice, keeping them ranked so high, but I’m giving them some credit for being 2-0 in the league and I feel a winning streak coming on. It has something to do with the teams behind them as well, none of whom seem worthy of a No. 2 ranking.

Lol, if this game was in CU and Winston was out then I think we could be talking about pulling the upset. It’s not. We aren’t winning in East Lansing. Not unless the ghost of Dee Brown checks into the starting lineup and knocks down about 8 treys.

You must not watch a lot of college basketball to think a win is impossible. Several much larger upsets have happened this season.

This is the kind of win Il could use. On the road against ranked team. Goes a long way on the resume.

If I go with what I think will happen, and then go to the normal 100% opposite reality world we live in, the Illini should cruise to a 10 pt win. Book it. I'd bet my pop-up tent (which is on a beach) on it.

Plenty. But I’ve also been an Illini fan for 40 years so that conditioning outweighs most everything else. 😂

I will second this testimonial fact. Nick Weatherspoon is still fresh in my mind!

"The Spoon" This team could really use a go to player like Weatherspoon at the 4. It could be argued that this is the teams most serious limitation. I thought Tevian Jones might develop along those lines.
