Interested to see this installment of Morrow v Black. The major justification for not recruiting Morrow at the time that I recall was LB was basically the same player, but it seems Morrow has developed a little better.

Didn't NE just blow out PSU at home? The same PSU team that swept us this year? That doesn't bode well.

And Illinois swept Northwestern. Which just goes to show that the transitive property doesn't apply to basketball.

I still believe this team has the talent and upperclassmen to "win out" their last three games and "run the table" in the big ten tournament. Gotta take it one game at a time at this point and bring their best defensive effort in the remainder of their games for Illinois to have a chance.

Its just a matter of style. My personal style, when I'm swimming upstream is not to shout it with a tee shirt, it is to get quiet, get tenacious and go out and do it in a more stealthy way. I still keep reaching, I just don't pound my chest about it until I've proven a reason to do so. As I said, just a matter of personal style.

I can appreciate that.

The Illini also swept the Squawkeyes and they are handing it to Maryland, on the road, right now... All of these comparisons make my head spin. :D

You know, if we didn't keep getting ourselves into a giant hole every January, we wouldn't need a ladder.

And I was at the Penn State game at Penn State. The Bryce center got very quiet in the second half. If (yeah, I know, if) the Illini had played the entire game like they did the latter half, it would have been a blowout. In our favor.

As it was, PSU barely squeaked out a win, aided by a questionable call. Penn State may have gotten a W out of that one,but it didn't feel all that good to the Penn State fans.

Darned close to being a win for the good guys.

Don't you mean the "ladder half"?

I got you beat by 2 years. That Nick Weatherspoon-led team at 14-10 left a very strong impression on me as to how hard Illinois plays bball. I still carry that impression to this day. And you know what, when I don't see it, I know it. That year I remember they played UCLA in a winter tournament and only lost to them by like 7 points. I followed UCLA's scores the rest of that season and I believe we came the closest to beating them out of all the teams they played. I bet you we scared the living bejeebers out of them that game.

And I have you beat by 2 years. :) You may be referring to the "Nick Conner game", in the Chicago Stadium I believe, when he pretty much outplayed Alcindor/Jabbar, giving up 7 inches in height. I didn't actually see that game but it was sort of legend around campus for awhile. I think Conner was a soph and Alcindor a senior. I did see Conner playing at IMPE a few times; he was an incredible athlete, strong as an ox and could jump out of the gym. Both Nicks gone way too soon.

It is all lining up now... BYU beats the Zags in Spokane and the Illini beat BYU. Therefore, we are better than the #1 team in the country and will beat Nebraska on Sunday. :thumb:

I'll have what your drinking.

This is total nit-picking but the correlation does exist. It just don't support a conclusion that the "loss following win" is the cause of the next loss, for exactly the reasons you gave, which means the correlation has little predictive power about what's likely to happen on Sunday.

How did you account for momentum in your predictive power assessment? Everything else I agree with but I don't think it's a fair statement without taking into account how losing games can impact confidence in key situations, poor shot selection due to prolonged cold shooting, stretches of games playing bad defensive etc. I'd disagree that there is "little" predictive power, I think there's more there than meets the eye. Either way it's not a fail proof thing, I just think it's more of a trend than you do. On the flip side, what's the predictive power of a team that *knowingly* just won two straight conference games in more than a year? Maybe nothing on its face but it's hard to gauge momentum is all that I'm saying. ILL!

Morrow plays a bigger role for his team, but I'm not sure he would be better than Leron if he played here instead. Impossible to say, but I don't think Morrow makes us much better. Morrow is a better jumper, but Leron is a better shooter.
