I'm just hoping for something better than that 38-33 fiasco in 2009.

I was at that game. I think we were down 6 or something with 5 minutes left and I said to my dad that I didn't think we would score 6 more points the rest of the way.

The remainder of the schedule are all winnable games... and the remainder of the schedule are all losable games.

Face it. Groce will inexplicably take out on the hot hands that can score to play more or less 3 or 4 on 5 ball for a good 20 minutes of the game. This will kill any mojo this team had.

Groce: Didn't do a lot physically yesterday. Watched a lot of film.

this rub anyone else wrong? This team struggles with the basics and your giving them a day off?

Every year there are a few teams who go on a run right around this time. After being mediocre right about this time of the year. Why for once in our lives can that be us.

Film sessions are valuable. It wasn't a day off.

A game is a living thing. Otherwise a coach could leave written instructions on the bench and watch from the locker room.

:thumb:

Although, given what appears to be a lack of ability to make any type of in-game adjustments by the coaching staff, maybe that's just what they've decided to do. (It would explain a lot! ;) )

Just came out of a meeting wheee someone quoted the adage "No battle plan survives contact with the enemy.” Applicable

I guess they must never have watched JG coach the Illini. The battle plan survives, but the war is lost... :(

While I don't hate, or disagree with this position, I am fairly certain the first mass substitution came at just under the 17 minute mark. At the time, up 10-0, not yet to the TV timeout and certainly with a fanbase excited to watch Lucas in his first start, I found the extremely quick trigger absurd. Now, if I am mistaken and the swap happened at the under 16 timeout, then I likely owe Groce an apology for my comments directed at him at the time. :D

You can save your apology:

16:56 SUB IN by TATE,JAYLON
16:56 SUB IN by FINKE,MICHAEL
16:56 SUB IN by ABRAMS,TRACY
16:56 SUB OUT by COLEMAN-LANDS,JALEN
16:56 SUB OUT by LUCAS,TE'JON
16:56 SUB OUT by BLACK,LERON

Yeah, totally based on the game situation. Doesn't look scripted at all... :hand:

Hey, they had played a whole 3 minutes and 4 seconds! Black, Coleman-Lands and Lucas were gassed!

Plus it is not unusual to go light the day after a game. It allows teams to recover physically.

With JG's brilliant use of mandatory rest periods for all players at regular intervals during the games....

What are the players recovering from?? Bench sores? :tsk:

Seriously? Did you just compare Groce and the Illini to Kerr and the Warriors? Please... :hand:

Seriously? This is a lazy knee-jerk reaction that shows a failure to understand the context of my statement. We were discussing the use of a specific substitution strategy that we're not even sure Groce uses, and I pointed out that the same strategy is used by Steve Kerr. What is so unreasonable about that?

I think this is why even the skeptics like me continue to watch. We have had a few stretches where we thought we were a real team. For now though, we're still Pinocchio.

Big game today. If we lose @PSU, it shows we have almost no shot at winning on the road the rest of the way, which makes it nearly impossible for us to make the dance.

But if we can somehow pull this one out, it shows that we at least have a *chance* to win a few road games this year and our tourney hopes are still alive (though, arguably still unlikely).

I've watched Penn St. a few times. They're more athletic than us and tougher than us. I've come away from those games thinking there is no way we can beat them. Nevertheless, today I have a feeling we'll win. 68-69. Maybe I'm buying into S&C insisting that we'll be in the play-in game.

One thing that's odd about this season is how few close games there have been. Really only 4 - Winthrop, BYU, Ohio St and Maryland. Seems like this might be another one.
