Either start the game with Chase Brown or McCray blasting through people, or someone should be fired.

I wasn't exactly pumped to be going to ANOTHER wedding this year due to COVID cancellations, but ... honestly, this is about the best weekend it could have been scheduled.

Can someone provide me with some serious hope for the regime? Don't get me wrong, I am NOT turning on BB in the slightest; I just prefer to be optimistic, and I need someone's positive spin. From what I can tell, we need to more or less clean house and suck for 1-2 more years as we turn over the roster and add B1G-caliber players, and that is really the only hope ... but is that happening?! Better start soon.

My positive spin is that you are lucky and have been spared of this beat down. I do think there is some talent sprinkled in within the younger ranks of the team. Hopefully they’ll learn from the experience and springboard their careers next year when all those seniors are graduated. The DC gives me a lot of hope. He seems to be coaching up that unit with limited talents. The defense is serviceable and showing signs of improvement every week. If we can keep him here for a few years, this defense will hold its own in the B1G. Now only if I could say the same thing about the QB situation….

Looks like Clifford won't be playing until the PSU/OSU game and Roberson their backup looked nearly as bad as Art. PSU by 20 instead of 50.

This season really defines the point that you need a quality QB to run the offense....Even with 2 outstanding RB's such as Chase B. and Josh M. we are struggling and the last game was the epitome of ineptness offensively...........Glad I didn't watch or listen to the game and I deleted my recording of the game based solely on advice from my friends here...

I thought the Lovie experience was bad , but the shape he left the cupboard in is worse that I expected.......

BB might get the job done here but we need help at every position and the OC position is not looking promising right now...

Penn State poses a big challenge -- some might say, insurmountable. Got it. Even so, I expect the Fighting Illini to line up and get after it every play, regardless what the scoreboard shows.

It is my hope that each Illini player that sets foot on that field shows his mettle every play from scrimmage, plays with an attitude of controlled-reckless abandon, and strives to perform his very best for his teammates. I want to see that level of effort on the field all game. That is how good things happen, how players improve, and how a team gets better.

Whether such effort will be enough to overcome the Nittany Lions on their home turf, it is reasonable to have doubts. Crazy upsets do happen. While the likelihood of the Illini pulling one may be slim even with great effort, I can guarantee it will be none if they don't "bring it" every play. Get after it boys!

Our program continues to be critically damaged by poor quarterback play, going back several years. The frustrating thing is that even our mid major opponents (like UTSA and Charlotte this year) can recruit and coach quarterbacks who are clearly superior to anything we have fielded for well over a decade. If the mid majors can do it, why can't a major conference school like Illinois ever find even an average quarterback? Until BB and staff address this gaping deficiency, Illinois football will continue to remain in the Big Ten cellar.

Great observation......

Yet even the best QB can’t work miracles if the O-line is a sieve. Or if the O-line can’t split the defense for a bit of daylight for the RB’s to run for.
And did our defense just get pushed back four or five yards any time Wisconsin decided to go up the middle.

Positive spin: BB outreach to Illinois HS coaches pays dividends in Year 2 and Illinois lays down a solid base for the future. Illinois’ commitment to solid line play starts to pay off. A near .500 record and almost Bowl eligibility raises hopes for Year 3.

The takeaway is we need to get better at every position except running back. A looooooooot of work to be done.

I just read on ESPN that with Purdue cracking the Top 25 this week, we're now behind only Kansas for longest rankings drought. Rutgers and Vandy were also mentioned in the Top 4, but I believe we're now second longest among Power 5 schools.

Purdue ranked 25th and UTSA is ranked 24th. We played them both close. We will need to play the best game of the year to compete with PSU
