We’re gonna torture him in PnRs no matter who he is guarding.

Does Pu leave Edey in drop coverage and put Kaufman Renn guard CoHawk when he steps out. We can’t let them get out to a lead. I wonder how much home cooking Pu will get. Keep the crowd out of it. Students are still out. Go Illini!

Last March in WL is still fresh in my mind. Down 21 at half, tied it with 1:17 remaining and couldn't quite pull it out. And that was a dysfunctional Illini team.

I will thoroughly enjoy watching this one on Friday evening. Am sorely tempted to ditch work and drive the 600+ miles to see it in person.

The boys are playing with swagger. I have faith. :illinois:🏀

If Mrs. Fighter and I hadn’t just had a baby (thank you to all who sent me a nice message!), we’d seriously be driving down from Chicago. I encourage all Illini fans with the financial means and time to please attend … if there’s ever been a group that deserved the full backing of our allegedly loyal and passionate fan base, it’s these guys. I’m hopeful there’s orange in every away arena for the rest of the year like in 2005.

Coleman will be the key to beating Purdue, I think. He will have to avoid silly fouls on Edey so that he’ll be in the game to draw him out of the lane on defense. Dain will play more minutes this game out of necessity, but Coleman’s presence for the bulk of the game will be crucial.
Agreed. Coleman needs to stay in the game and hit some open threes to draw Edey away from the paint.

With Purdue guards Smith, Jones and Loyer going 6’0”/175, 6’1”/200 and 6’4”/180, it doesn’t take a genius to predict what we’re going to try to do at the offensive end.

If I was Purdue, I'd put one of Kaufman-Renn, Hiede, or Furst on Coleman, and Edey on Rodgers. Edey stays home and goes for shot alterations and blocks behind the bullied guards. I would not worry too much about giving up a few inches against Coleman. I've not seen him go over people very often.

A potential counter for IL is to run sets that leave Rogers alone at the top of the key, and hope he can hit enough to force Edey to come out. Otherwise if we want to draw Edey out, we probably have to go to a 5 out attack (Harmon vs. Rogers). One cold 3 shooter and we're back to the Rogers case.

Edey on Rodgers??? I’ll have what you are having.

I'd try letting Edey stay in the paint, and let Rogers run free when outside. If Rogers proves he can drive effectively given the room, even with Edey waiting for him and guarding the goal, then I'd change. It seems like a reasonable experiment. Letting Edey be drawn out by Coleman isn't going to go well. I've got to try something different.

I don't think it's been posted here but I saw a funny comment elsewhere that we have now consecutively beaten the last two teams to best Purdue and absorbed their energy for our matchup

In a wildly coincidental and completely random vice-versa, Purdue has achieved the exact same feat in beating Tennessee & Marquette in back to back games on Nov 21 & 22.

We’re gonna need Coleman on the floor for 38 minutes, he has to stay out of foul trouble. I like Dain, we’re gonna need him in spots at some point this season but can we all please stop with this is Dains time to shine. It’s not. They’d kill us if we played their game, there’s a reason why Edey isn’t in the NBA it’s because he can’t guard guys like Coleman and guards. The only time I’m okay with seeing Dain on Friday night is when Edey is on the bench
