Jesus just listened to the guys who do the “Old Gold Show” preview our game( A Purdue podcast affiliated with Field of 68). They are in for quite the humbling tonight is all I’ll say. 🤡 entertainment
They were so dismissive of this team their entire breakdown. I can understand it from the national guys but people that in tune with the B1G should be a bit more informed imo. All the more reason to shock them all with our performance tonight.

Ya it wasn’t a breakdown it was basically them sticking their noses up at us and making smirky comments.

I'd love to feel like we will win tonight, but there are reasons we are a big underdog (maybe for the last time). It's at Mackey, they are #1, they play as a team too, they rebound well too, and they have Edey.

Tonight's goal is not lose our Mojo

I'll be happy if it's a competitive game, and lose by single digits.

But if we some how win, I'll be ecstatic !! Probably watching media recaps of the game until 2 am or so.
And….no injuries please….knock on wood.

Keep in mind I'm not talking about when Edey gets left on him because drop coverage or a bad switch. They're not going to have Edey guarding Ty bringing the ball up and they're also not going to start Edey out 2 feet above the free throw line or at the extended elbow on every possession.

Perhaps I took the original comment too literally (or not literally enough, depending on how you look at it).
I don’t think anyone is arguing that they’re gonna have Edey guard Ty when he brings the ball up. Just that’s possible when Ty is standing on the wing, put another player on Hawkins and guard him at the 3 point line and put Edey “on Ty” but essentially unguarded at the 3 point.

Ok, I was responding to people who, in my mind, were obviously referring to Edey guarding Ty straight up. Not like there's a switch so Edey ends up on him, or drop coverage where Edey's man was the screener, or where Ty seeks out the top of the key as a pivot/passer. I obviously took the comment(s) the wrong way, so apologies. I've now had 3 people fight me over what I feel are simple semantics and I'm growing fatigued with it, so I'll leave this be after this comment.

I get your gist, but it's not like we were doing something special to get the Ty <--> Edey alignment when we had the ball. They started out that way consistently; it was drop coverage, yes, but Edey was still assigned to Ty at the start of our offensive sets.

Having Ty bring the ball up the court may be a great advantage for us in this game if it prevents exactly that. I think you're 100% right that there's no way Edey is out at the 3 point line pressuring the ball, so that means one of two options for Purdon't (assuming Dain isn't in):
1. Start Edey on someone else, which means he's guarding someone who can shoot threes
2. Start with drop coverage on the point guard, which means he's giving us wide open room to get into an offensive set.

I like both of those options for us. My guess is they may try to trap or aggressively guard Ty in the full-court to get the ball out of his hands at the start of a possession.

Edit: the last point is kind of an option 3 for Purdon't - assign Edey to Ty in the halfcourt, but pressure Ty in the fullcourt with someone else. Works if you can force him to pass (or ideally a turnover) but leaves somebody open, similar to any kind of trapping press.

Sorry @NarrowJ - didn't mean to single you out in a personal way. It's such an intriguing set of matchups and I honestly couldn't remember at all who Edey guarded against us last year, so I was sharing in a stream-of-consciousness fashion, not in an attempt to hammer home a specific point.
