Did you watch the game? I came away fairly impressed. They hung with ND for the quarters.
I listened to the Purdue call. Purdue seemed to be play “spirited” but they didn’t seem overly talented and made undisciplined mistakes. The door is open.

it’s a winnable game for us

but it’s a more winnable game for them at home

we need to play really well and score at least 24 points

We have 3 “winnable” games left. Boy oh boy do we need to win at least 2 of them. 4 wins would be a great accomplishment at this point. At the beginning of the year I considered that the floor.

I spent most of the off season, disagreeing with the idea that our super seniors gave us an advantage over many teams. I finally succumbed to the thinking and got totally on board. At this point, would we have been better to take more transfers? Not sure. Without the super seniors, we would probably (even) be worse off this year, but maybe better off long term. Injuries have hurt us more than I expected too.

We will very likely lose this game. Our best shot at a second win will be versus Charlotte the following week.

Our 3rd and final win will come over Northwestern.

As to super seniors versus transfers, I thought super seniors didn’t count against scholarship numbers thus not like we could have taken 22 transfers in their place as those players would have counted against limits. Another thing is how difficult would it be preaching “Familly” when you jettison part of that family? Not saying you just keep players because, but with as many of the super seniors who are starting/playing, have to believe they’re some of our better players at those positions. Players know that and not sure it sends a great “family” message to send them on their way after the irregular Covid season. As sad as it might be, the large amount of super seniors gave this team the best chance of winning this year. And as tough as the season has been so far, I think most people felt next year was going to be a tough one regardless — a lot of super senior starters gone as well as transfers out by other players. I really don’t think the latter category will be impacted that much because of the large amount of super seniors we have.

Charlotte beat Duke who beat Nw so Charlotte may be tougher than we might expect

for Purdue hanging with ND that does not make them good. ND struggled against Toledo and FSU

I like our chances in this one but we have to be up for the game

You are correct on the numbers. I’m not sure if we filled every scholarship slot at the end or not. We did actively recruit all the seniors to come back vs just allowing them back so I don’t think it would have hurt messaging either way. Ultimately I don’t see that part as an issue. I’m mostly just venting I guess.

yea, if we truly had a better frosh or soph to play on the Oline, they would be by now

the problem we really have is we dont have a super senior QB who has proven he can do it, and we just dont have any quick and tall WR to get separation 40 yds downfield. I really do hate to bail on Peters already, but its pretty clear he isn't the answer to helping us score 28 points a game.

I'm not sure either but I haven't seen much out of the transfers that we did take.

How about alternating series between BP and Art in the first half and play the second half with who has best performance at halftime ?

I'm kidding.....kinda kidding
Well, maybe I'm kidding...
OK. IM NOT KIDDING

Appease both crowds
Can't be any worse than last.night, can it ?
I vote for Duece at QB. Imagine how hard it would be to stop him and McCray in the same backfield. It'll never happen because it's not BB's style, but it sure looks great in my head.

What is McCray's status?

They only beat Oregon St at home by 9 I think. Illini are going to have trouble with WR David Bell, and they’ve got a good TE too.
David bell likely out for the game. Had an injury last game/carted off. Haven’t seen details but guessing he’s out. Sucks for him. Hopefully back soon.

In his daily digest, Werner said it was a head injury and it was reported after the game that he was alert and interacting with teammates. Assuming he’ll be going through concussion protocol, so could still be out.
