That's kind of the point. They are excelling outside of the program, at a higher level.
The point was that because of Lovie teaching them to do math wrong, they couldn't learn it for a while. Two absolutely did learn it well and are excelling at a much higher level. What seems to be the problem with those that were left behind. Maybe, the teaching is currently amiss.

Wake Forest just pounded UVa @ Scott Stadium. The same place UVa pounded the Illini. I don't know enough about football to dissect what the problems are. I don't think the talent deficit is as severe but it probably is. Also think we have two generation of very bad teams that have created a no win culture. Our coaching carousel has led to poor technique and schemes. Still think Coach B can make improvements but this is going to be a long road.
I think the talent deficit vs Virginia was legit.

overall they have a better recruiting area than we do, and bronco has been pulling in guys with the specific talent he needs for the last 5 years.

Someone said this game was winnable for us but more winnable for them. Unfortunately I think that's true. Purdue is more established this year and plays hard. Illinois is still a team with new coaches and old pieces that don't fit. I want to believe that we win this game, but I just can't. If I look the score up later and see an Illinois win I will be utterly shocked.

Not pessimism. Just realism

Nicely summarized. I concur. Purdue covers at home. But I'll still be watching the entire game from start to finish.

PU 38
ILL 23 (3 FG's for McCourt)

Not a very promising indicator........

I concur as well. Will definitely be watching the game and hoping for the best. I would love to McCray get a ton of touches instead of doing all the subs that we've been doing (imo the running backs can't get into rhythm when we do that) Purdue will mostly likely win (probably comfortably by 2 scores) but I hope we can make it a game and keep it interesting.
GO ILLINI!

Yep, I expect the Illini to perform better this week, but I don’t think we’ll be able to beat the spread.

If the OL could provide a modicum of protection that completion % would go up. Not sure it can get to 60% though.
Not disagreeing on the OL weakness, but BP needs to get the ball out, too. He has dropped back 38 times and been sacked 8. He has made some good runs when things break down, but get rid of the ball (wisely) if you have to and live for another down. Not saying go with Art, but at least he has only 4 sacks out of 106. Other factors in play for sure, but get rid of the ball.
