I am unwilling to do the research here, as it would be very time demanding, but I do not share your view. My sense is that Underwood has had more turnover than any other B1G coach in the years that he has been in Champaign. Maybe that is wrong, and believe me, I have thought about tabulating this for a few months now. But, sigh, too many other projects of higher significance.

The expectation was that is Ben is supposed to make 3s
He does make threes: 30.9% in B1G play so far (16 games). He leads the team in attempts from three-point range, in B1G play. I think the arithmetic is clear.

12/18 from the free throw line, in B1G play as well. I believe that makes him 7th in attempts on the team (2nd in minutes played, in B1G play). Why bring up freethrows? It is an indirect indicator of how much pressure a player is putting on the defense. Seventh-best on the team, in this case.

If Ben is fine playing a little bit of a smaller role off the bench, he will be back
With our luck he’ll become a 60% 3 pt shooter and Brad won’t play him because he’s promised someone else minutes and a specific role. (This is sarcasm….kinda)

Check out these 3pt shooting trends after Gentry left for Gonzaga following the 2020-21 season.

3PA: 3 point attempts per game
3P%: % 3’s made
Then added their rank among teams in the league.

After Gentry, the next 3 seasons saw our 3PA increase ~50%. Then this season our 3PA have increased another ~30% over the last 3 year average.

2020-21 (Gentry leaves after season)

3PA: 17.5 (Rank 14 of 14 B1G Teams)
3P%: 37.3% (Rank 3 of 14 B1G Teams)

2021-22
3PA: 24.9 (Rank 2 of 14 B1G Teams)
3P%: 35.9% (Rank 6 of 14 B1G Teams)

2022-23
3PA: 24.7 (Rank 2 of 14 B1G Teams)
3P%: 30.8% (Rank 14 of 14 B1G Teams)

2023-24
3PA: 23.9 (Rank 2 of 14 B1G Teams)
3P%: 34.9% (Rank 8 of 14 B1G Teams)

2024-25
3PA: 30.3 (Rank 1 of 18 B1G Teams)
3P%: 31.1% (Rank 17 of 18 B1G Teams)

Agreed, he's been disappointing. But there are bigger problems right now is my point. Booth is unplayable, KJ hero ball (not his fault at times but still), Boswell has dropped 16% from three last season.
This is it. If ANY of those things were better, it would mask some of Ben's flaws that you all love to pick on. Ben is 5.7 BPM (would've been 4th best on last year's team)

I'm not sure what Brad has been thinking the last month, but he needs to stop. This is a very dangerous team, but he needs to put the best players on the court and rethink lineups.

almighty morgan freeman GIF

Hopefully divine intervention can save our postseason hopes. (Humrichous speaking earlier today, be nice lol)
Hey, only want you playing 10 minutes a game for my Illini but I for sure want you playing 100% of the time for Jesus. A brother in Christ above all things.

I think a look at BU's tenure here at Illinois would show that turnover with player roster as well as the coaching staff has been the norm...I'm not suggesting that some change isn't good and necessary, but multiple changes every year doesn't exactly promote continuity....and unfortunately with the portal and nil I don't see that changing soon
Makes me think he's just not a good manager. Players AND coaches constantly leaving may mean it's not a very good environment to work in.

If you watched Wisconsin and Purdue play then our game....... Yikes, this is gunna be a doozy if we aren't 100% ready. Tonje looked unstoppable.

I LOVE this comment because it's probably the answer. This lack of continuity is an issue for sure.

Another concern that I have is that we have a couple of guys that could/will be drafted. Do those guys want to make sure that they're "getting theirs"? Do you know what I mean? There's a lot of iso ball and I see that MAYBE Will is one of those guys. Maybe not. Sometimes, I'm seeing these guys standing within five feet of one another asking for the ball. I can guarantee that's not a play being drawn up.

Just bouncing that off of you.
I think we’ve always known continuity was very, very important…even in the age of NIL and the portal…in some ways it’s just as important as it ever was. There were maybe a handful of people concerned about that in the offseason. But we all knew it. (If we were honest about it…or thought about it for more than 5 seconds that is.) It’s not sustainable without a little of it IMO.

Give Hamer some credit, with possible exception of the Rutgers game he usually puts out a strategy that shuts down the opposing teams best player. We will be tipping our hats for someone else's 30 pt career night.\s

I’ll go ahead and say the quiet part out loud, I’m not sold on Wisconsin. They’ve played the bottom feeders off the conference lately and that Purdue was more fluky than anything else. They won’t shot like that again. We always play them well or beat them. I see people on here saying we’re are going to lose by 15-20, when is the last time we’ve been blown out on the road? I’ll wait.

Wisconsin has as good of offense on KenPom as Illinois had last year. 125.5 on offensive efficiency.

For the year they are shooting 47/37/84. The 84% FT shooting would be an NCAA record. And IL was very fortunate the first game that WI shot 14/21 from the line. IL was 22/25. That was the difference in the game

Tre white a healthy scratch
Tomi not 100% and we have no depth inside
DGL gets 3 mins in a track meet against MSU

This is great info and substantiates what many of us have been saying (some of us for years), the offense is junk. It's "roll the ball out and guys will make plays". It can kind of work when you have Ayo, TSJ, Domask types. But typically...it's a losing strategy.

When you are one of the top 10 paid coaches in all of college basketball, this isn't going to fly. Obviously Brad isn't getting fired, but he needs to go out and get OC/DC this offseason that can actually coach X's and O's. Nepotism needs to end.

Great point.

Tre apparently did something so egregious he can’t play but not so bad that he doesn’t get kicked off the team.

Either play him or let him walk. BU won’t do the latter because he paid Tre and can’t admit he made a culture mistake so we’re left wondering why this talent isn’t playing.
Problem is Brad didn't pay anybody. He's playing with our money and donations don't we deserve some type of explanation? Money will dry up FAST then what?

In fairness to our staff, what would Wisconsin’s record look like if they shot 3’s like us?

But we don’t shoot the 3 like wisconsin and yet we shoot just as many. Not a winning strategy.

I think our streak comes to an end.

Tre White: still sick, in the doghouse, other?

I’m sure this has been discussed, but I’m short on time and way behind on Loyalty. TIA
