Doghouse it seems. The theories range from him having the audacity to suggest either Ben H shouldn't be playing 30 min/game, Tyler U isn't the next John Wooden, and/or Domino's has better parking than Pizza Hut.

Gard is a heck of a coach, although for some reason Brad seems to have his number. I certainly didn't see UW being in contention for the BIG championship this late in the season.

I don't think that this is discussed enough. Who is the leader on this roster? We were obviously prepped to come out of the locker room. We looked great. EVERY good team has THAT guy who when things go wrong, pulls his guys aside and straightens things out. Heck, during time outs, the first 3/4 of it is the players figuring it out, then the coach comes in and buttons everything up.

Who is that guy this year? With MSU being over the foul limit, should it really have taken Brad to point out the common sense obvious? It's one of three issues. 1)The leadership lever on this team is nil, 2)the intelligence and awareness level is nil or 3)we don't have the talent/quickness to continually get into the lane and make things happen.

It really shouldn't take the coach to tell them to get to the rim of get it inside with no dribble drive or dumping it into the paint. KJ and Tomi should have been living at the line. They didn't.
Pun intended?

Once again, we will hear that horrible Clang of 3's bouncing off the rim. Wisconsin has way too much talent to lose to this talentless halfhearted group! Wisconsin 88 Illinois 68. Duke 95-Illini 61

I know there is talk about roster construction and some of the misses. However, we have more talented players on this team than the vast majority of P5 teams. I am not going to blame players.

I recall for a number of years under Brad when recruiting was good, bordering on very good, and Illini Nation was very encouraged/excited. We weren’t getting legit 5* recruits, rather a couple 4* and 3*, but we out fought, out hustled, and wore out other teams down. Yes, we had Ayo, and Kofi, and TJ….But, Brad beat the drum repeatedly that we are a development program. Not the greatest recruits, but EDGs.

The “Xs and Os” were pretty good. Losing Gentry hurt. Losing other coaches hurt. We were a development program, making the most of pretty good players, and our coaching focused on grit, execution, and the ability to rely on a these traits….all while allowing Ayo, Kofi, Trent, TJ to take over when necessary. But, coaches like Gentry, OA, Chester, and others were the ones driving development, the system, and execution.

Now we have OA (just came back) and GA (he was always the third wheel) but Tyler and Hamer are focused on offense and defense.
There is no real game planning - at least none that’s working.
We are no longer a development program and have become a regression program, at best.
Somewhere Brad thought that using NIL and OA and Tim Anderson’s recruiting chops and bringing in his 4*, 5*, and one and done players, and rolling out the ball would be good enough. Calipari has proven repeatedly that doesn’t consistently work.

Now we’re are stuck as a regression program because we have no one capable of developing a team into a solid offensive and defensive program. No real strategies and abilities to manage a game. We are a hero ball focused team a majority of the time. It’s frustrating as can be because there isn’t really a system or coaching chops to maximize our individual skills and abilities and gel them into that they could and should be when shots aren’t falling and opposing players go on a heater.

But until Brad recognizes that coaching matters even when you have a very, very talented roster, nothing will change regarding results. Unless shots are falling come the B1G tournament and the Big Dance and no one from the other team has yet again another career night, we aren’t going anywhere without coaching and system changes.

Sorry for the long post….

Tre White: still sick, in the doghouse, other?

I’m sure this has been discussed, but I’m short on time and way behind on Loyalty. TIA
Insiders say doghouse, BU says he’s healthy, almost certainly doghouse.

Unreal he and DGL are getting essentially no tick. Frankly someone’s gotta swallow their pride. One thing if they break rules—which for all I know is the case. It’s another if coaches are upset about their temper/view.

I just want to see some intensity tomorrow. Seems like the good teams have a bunch of angry mo’fo’s like the State kid that had his career high. I think DGL is the only player on IL that has that chip on shoulder dynamic. We got too many laid back dudes. How about getting pissed about being embarrassed at home. Do they got that in ‘em?

I like the way you think...now if only I could think similarly.

That is the "make lemonade out of lemons" post of all time. Bless her and TSJ. 🙏
I mean, the situation is embarrassing, but it's legitimately a little bit funny in the same sense as "Indinia" and "MIZNOZ."

I am glad that the family seems to be taking it that way. At the end of the day, the real honor is having the banner hanging in the rafters for all time. The mishap during the ceremony will be something he/we can chuckle at long term.

If it was any other player, I would agree.
But the specter of it being some kind of intentional insult by someone looking to make a point changes things.

I'm not so sure about this. In person it was mortifying. And then to just raise it anyway and let it preside over the stadium like the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come for the whole second half... it's not something I see myself looking back on in good humor.

Although, in general I believe those who can't laugh at the past are bound to relive it. So, I hope you're right because I don't want to keep playing that one back.

Unfortunately, we inhabit an age in which (it pains me to concede) this is actually a possibility. I've seen this in my own line of work in the past decade: a junior staff member believing that it's his/her prerogative to make a statement via sabotaging via slow-rolling, or refusing to participate in, certain projects.

The bottom line, however, is that it's a complete failure of process integrity in the DIA. Someone up the chain (preferably two) should always check this sort of work in advance, and that process should be institutionalized to the point where it's automatic. Especially when failure will occur in front of 15,000+ fans and one of only a dozen or so players to whom such an honor has been accorded in the 120 seasons our program has existed.

Unlike what occurs North of Green, it's not rocket science.

3-point jack attack offense. Next man, jack one up.

I could honestly see 2 very different results happening in this game. I could either see a 10 point Illini victory where we cut to the room and shoot 7-20 from the three. Or we might just chuck up 3’s and miss them just like we have the whole year resulting in a 20 point badgers victory. It could be one way or the other.

Agreed, IF you have players who have been at Illinois 3+ years, but absent that level of leadership, it is PRECISELY the coaches job.

No matter how much NIL the NBA ready Frosh is/are making, the coach is still the highest person on the bench.

Earn it.

Tyler: Daddy, My offense isn't working, all the players you got me last summer are broken.

Daddy Brad: I paid good NIL for those players, they were all 40% career 3 point shooters, what did you do to them?

Tyler: Nothing Daddy, they just broke. The team is the 2nd worst 3 point shooting team in the B1G. I read on the internet that European players are good 3 pt shooters, can you get me some of them?

Daddy Brad: Not in time for this year's tournaments, you'll just have to make do. Tell the players to keep shooting. Maybe they'll fix themselves. I'll send Geof to France with some NIL, he'll find you some new Euro players for next season.

\s - for the gallows humor impaired

As a fan, and for the the current players, I do hope things get better soon. But the nepotism and extreme turnover rates of coaches and players really sits wrong with me.
