Sucks for him and the team. Really feel for the kid giving it his all and finally getting his share of minutes. Sooo do we see Tre White next game?

#227
Goodness, I'm honestly not surprised. When I watched it live and in the replay I thought, how did he not break his arm???

Now that we know it was broke, how on earth did Morez go back into the game? All resources have to go to retaining Morez next year. To heck with Underwood's philosophy of shooting 3's and spreading the floor. Give me a guy like Morez to build around all day, every day.

He is my favorite player on this team to watch. Here's hoping to a quick and healthy recovery.

FREE TRE WHITE

We need all hands on deck to make the tournament at this point.

We’re a very narrow lens group instead of wide lens

I actually think it's a wide lens in some cases. Most don't watch the games closely enough to actually see what is happening on the court only the end result of plays. Makes for a very skewed perspective on what is happening, for example people STILL thinking Ben is a bad defender when he is one of the most sound guys out there and almost never makes mistakes. Or that Dra being intense and making some visible high impact plays is all that matters.

That’s the season. Folks.

All that sage burning has cursed this team. Sage burning needs to be banned

Let's just skip tournaments this year. How long until we find out tomi has a broken ankle? Tre going out partying with skyy? This team is not really a team, just a bunch of guys who met just recently.

Goodness. That literally makes me nauseous. Poor guy. Did that happen on that epic two-hand rejection?

That's a grave loss given his steady improvement and presence this winter.
We have a problem. He was one of only two legitimate bigs that we have.

As many of you despise Ben, at 6'9", he's all that's left. We've been short bigs all year and now.... we're down to one, legitimate big man.

Takeaway......the threes had better start falling.

I’d argue that your condescending comments like this are more insufferable and annoying, but i guess that’s the point of a forum, everyone can have an opinion..

Gonna be rootin hard for Illini vs. Badgers. Find a way to win somehow.

Do we really think KJ was getting to the rim all game and then just stopped because the coaches told him to? No. The 20% of bad 3s we take seem to over shadow the 80% of open looks we take. We had at least 3 WIDE open looks with about 7 minutes to go that we couldn’t make. You HAVE to take those shots. If you don’t take the open looks it becomes even harder to score inside. Also contrary to popular belief we were + when Ben was on the floor and -when he was off.
Dravyn comes in and gambles on defense like he always does and gives up 2 baseline drives for easy buckets.

And don’t make me go back to last year and find everyone’s posts about Tyler being a good offensive coach lol
I appreciate your perspective and value your insights. However, many national commentators— including former coaches and players—have echoed the same concerns raised by people on this board. Could it be that they’re recognizing issues you might miss while viewing things through an “orange-tinted” lens, or do you believe their assessments are off-base?

Suffer? We better damn well hope he steps up because he, Tre White and our three point shooting are all that will save this team.

All year, people have been burying Ben, but he's the only player on the roster that can be remotely considered a big after Morez and Tomi and Tomi isn't exactly the most physical guy in the world.

Ironic that all of the complaining people did about Ben playing big minutes....they sure as heck need him now. He, Tre and getting the three pointers to fall at a 35% rate....that's where we're at.

Now, the good news is that I think that we still really only need the Iowa win to get into the field. The bad news is that we're one and done.

Like most fan bases most of us feel losses acutely, especially ones that occur in prime time on Saturday evening national TV, and feature an Illini legend honored by having his banner raised upside-down in front of a full house.

I hesitated yesterday in the MSU postgame thread to note that Purdue blew the doors off Michigan by 27 in WL last month, and yet they're just fine. And that's a team with a great deal more seasoning on the floor than we have. Our ceiling is limited by our inexperience.

I woke up Sunday morning as baffled and stung as anyone but then, on a long drive home, I remembered that we're still a very young team. Given the talent I forget that regularly.

With Rez out someone's got to man up inside.

I’m assuming you’re talking about shooting less 3s? I agree….first half was perfect against Michigan state in getting in the paint and scoring and kicking out for open 3’s. We have to take the open ones, can’t abandoned that. The one problem with young teams is they fall in love with the 3 as a way to get back into the game or looking for a kill shot which is what I think happens to us(KJ). Instead of doing what you do and getting to the rim and shooting free throws. No reason KJ shouldn’t have shot at least 10 free throws in the final 12 minutes. I think the common misconception here is that they aren’t having conversations and talking to them about it….they are. It’s about doing it and being comfortable doing it.

The only good thing going into this game is Kylan hasn't burned Sage in the Kohl center. Might be the only place we have some good juju left.

OR our live by the three, die by the three works in our favor? We've been awful for 6 weeks, now would be the time to flip the script.

@LvilleILL1

How healthy is Tomi?

Assuming you are right that Tre will play, this lineup may get some minutes:

Boswell
KJ
Tre
Jake
Ben

Yikes.

Long story short, for all of the people beating the KJ is a lottery pick drum.....his table is ready. He and Riley need to be stars, Ben needs to hold the paint down as much as possible and they ALL need to find this to be the time to shoot better.

Separately, we're going to see how much trouble Tre is really in. If he doesn't play now, whatever he did must have been quite the show.

We get better 3s when we attack the paint and score since that leads to open 3s that we can kick out for. Keep attacking inside out and it will lead to better 3s. When the gameplan is to make the 3 ball above everything else front and center as the means to score then that is where we get in trouble. Also, my god the defense needs to show up for this one.

You are on to something. We have NBA talent and a NBA-esque launch 3s strategy. Maybe we are coasting through the regular season doing just enough to make the post season, and then we turn it on...just like the NBA.
