That a team with a 10-10 B1G record will yet have a chance to make it to the Final Four (I know what I wrote; so does Underwood) is absolutely remarkable. Excellent scheduling and excellent international recuiting may yet overcome the many missteps made over the last 10 months.

It is unlikely that an injury-crippled team can win road games at Wisconsin and Michigan, nor a neutral site game against Duke in NYC. This badly hobbled team is highly likely to hold home court advantage against Iowa. But against Purdue (if they remain healthy), in Champaign? Tall order, though not impossible, despite the injured ankle and broken wrist our squad is affliced with. A 10-10 finish would -- never mind the appalling failings of the previous two months -- be a positive outcome. Let's build for next year.

If Brad doesn't deploy a zone, play DGL at least 39 minutes, sit Ben for at least 39 minutes (unless Ben makes 5 threes in his first minute), forbid the team from shooting threes, get red faced and sweaty, fire Tyler by the first media timeout, heal Morez's wrist with magic sage blessed by Chief Illiniwek, or let Tre White borrow his car to take his girlfriend on a date in Madison after the game then Josh Whitman should have Brad arrested, hire Sean Beard, and then fire himself immediately thereafter for gross incompetence!!

Pretty accurate, but actually Tre stole Brads car and took Mrs Underwood Christmas shopping in St Louis with BUs credit cards.

Then returned the car with only a quarter tank of gas.

Sean Beard - So let it be written, so let it be done!

Underwood does not need to deploy a zone. He and his staff have not taught one for whatever reason. Nevertheless, he can readily accomplish the defensive goals of a zone defense by (i) modifying how we defend screens and (2) tuning helpside defense rules for this game. That's it. Two clear tweaks.

100% of this post isn't right. Brad's seat is not warm. Name me one Illinois fan who now actively roots for another team because of the last 4 weeks since we are losing fans? If there are, good riddance, I'm guessing they weren't around for the Groce years.
I can name two. Their names are Craig and Garter. They run a site named Nappers. Big time Illini fans. Used their Illini fandom to build their channel. Now that we suck again, they’ve flipped their whole approach to Illinois upside down. Abandoning us to root for teams owned by Mike Wooden.

It all makes perfect sense now. I only hope he had her home by midnight.

How many guys 4 years out of college run a Power 4 offense? Really want to know! Most of them sit at the end of the bench or behind the bench, not next to the head coach. Are there ANY plays this season that were drawn up and we said, “wow, great move” to counter an opponent’s change in D? Or for defense while we’re at it.

The incompetence in coaching and decision making this season should be concerning, I'd imagine it's not difficult being a seasoned coach and simply changing your strategy and telling your players to stop shooting so many 3's. The analytics are out there for us to see, I'm sure he sees it too. Nearly the most 3 pointers taken by a team, with the lowest % made. Not rocket science.

You don't have to root for another team after losing interest in yours, you just stop watching, you stop caring. Our new coach may be better than the old, but that doesn't excuse crucial coaching mistakes at this level. We need to address current flaws, not compare to the past.

Do we really think KJ was getting to the rim all game and then just stopped because the coaches told him to? No. The 20% of bad 3s we take seem to over shadow the 80% of open looks we take. We had at least 3 WIDE open looks with about 7 minutes to go that we couldn’t make. You HAVE to take those shots. If you don’t take the open looks it becomes even harder to score inside. Also contrary to popular belief we were + when Ben was on the floor and -when he was off.
Dravyn comes in and gambles on defense like he always does and gives up 2 baseline drives for easy buckets.

And don’t make me go back to last year and find everyone’s posts about Tyler being a good offensive coach lol
Ol' Illini0440. You always have the most wisdom on the board. Thank you.

Part of it at least might be what are viewed as "good" looks from 3. I don't think it's anywhere near 80% good 20% bad. It's more like 33% good 67% bad.

I've said it many times but look at how many are off the bounce vs off the catch. When we were 8-15 a couple of games ago, 7 of those 8 makes were in rhythm shots off the catch.

When we dribble dribble dribble and then jack up a 3, it's rarely a good look. And we do that waaaay too much.

Please tell me you're joking. This is the most ridiculous, biased take on a basketball play I've ever seen. How nobody else has called this out yet is beyond me. Take your blinders off.

"Next man up" suggests that you have confidence in the next guy. "Will likely get minutes" sounds like the opposite.

Our big has barely been able to walk the last couple games, our 4 is out, we shoot historically poorly from 3, and our guards haven't been great at driving and finishing at the rim. And the most we can say about our backup big and the one guy on the team (IMHO) who seems to show the best ability to drive and score is that they "will likely get some minutes." Oh boy, this should be "interesting."

We do have mojo against Wisconsin, and at the Kohl, so there is that.

I too have been critical of Brad for failing to make on court changes. Even I can see when the 3's aren't falling you need to do something else. There was a 2 game span against Minnesota and UCLA that the Illini went to the basket time and time again, they did hit [actually make some 3's] but they were in the flow of the offense not with the pregame plan of we have to just shoot nothing but 3's tonight. I don't get it.
I don't know what is going on with Tre but he can and has contributed most of the year. When Dra comes in, he adds fire, he can get to the basket, he plays pretty good defense, Davis also brings some shooting, he is active on defense and the boards. Will Riley was the only player that backed his defender down into thwe paint and made some great passes to Rez for a basket, why didn't KJ, Boswell, Ivisic try to do the same. I just wonder where Ivisic has been for the 2nd half of the years. He seems to disappear a lot.
So now here we are without our best rebounder and shot blocker for the rest of the year and who is going to play in the middle? Ben is not strong enough to handle Crowl, or Winter.
Most so called experts think this team has the talent but like everyone else can't figure out why they don't show up most of the game. What was such a promising season now has turned to let's just get it over! Badgers go off tonight-Wis.-89 Illini 69

I see what you did there...

The team needs to rebound like MJ, ... that'd be a nice moto until Morez returns.
The VIX (variability) for this team right now is high, so there is a chance we come in and play well.
Variability rarely is good and counting on being good for the NCAA tourney not likely.
But, I'm hooked - there is a chance
