^^ Just perusing social media, people tend to be making a way bigger deal out of exhibition results this year than in past years. For example, I remember us being excited after beating #1 Kansas in the 2023-24 exhibition, and there were tons of comments about how exhibitions were "meaningless" (even though both teams played HARD for the win that game!). Fast forward to this year, and there are a plethora of hot takes about how Tennessee is doomed, etc.

With that said, Baylor did just take down #1, exhibition or not. It will be a great measuring stick to see how we handle them without our preseason All-American!

The effects are pretty clear: the teams make more money, and the quality of play increases when the real action starts (versus going in cold).

My position is that both of those things are bad.
This is sarcasm right? Because who would want to see more high level matchups where you can see the newcomers get some minutes and then see better basketball from the jump when the games that count start?

The content inventory-fication of sports, in one anecdote.

They were right before.

I am anti-meaningless games. Get me to the ones that count.

I think there was a $34.99 option for 3 months but you have to toggle to it.

I couldn’t bring myself to pay for the 6 months, I don't have any interest in watching Minnesota men’s basket weaving in January or whatever else they’ll be broadcasting on B1G+.

No offense to the basket weaving program, but honestly unless they have Fanta or someone on the call then it’ll be a tough watch
I plan on watching the alt-cast with Andy Katz and Mike LaTulip. The alt-cast for the MSU bs UConn the other night had Katz and Rob Dauster. They were good.

If you want all the Illinois exhibition games, I recommend the $44.99 six month plan instead of the $12.99 per month plan for three months. The Seattle game is B1G+ so you’ll need October, November and December (not sure how they prorate each month). I’ve watched several of the B1G exhibition games so far and find it worth the value.

One added bonus: the six month plan is not a subscription so it doesn’t automatically renew.
There is an alumni discount rate for B1G+ for 39.99 (thru 6/39/27) if you verify alumni status thru ID me. Just need to upload your degree or transcript on ID me. This gives you all the women’s games too.

I had no idea that there would be an alt cast with MLT and Andy Katz, thanks for the intel.

As much as I want to hear some of the most respected CBB analysts call the game, there’s something about listening to the college guys try to kick it over to the girl on the floor where they’ll inevitably bungle figuring out how to turn her audio on that I’ll miss.

Yeah, I'm torn as well. Did some ads at the college station back in the day, and there's something magical about the attempt at professionalism you get from those places. Some of them become legends! Schmack! Am I right?

Back to basketball... One tidbit from Brad I found interesting was him saying he was going to be playing a lot of people anyway, so he's going to look at more combinations than random substitutions. Whether that happens much as the season goes on remains to be seen, but that seems notably different from the philosophy of playing your best 5 guys and subbing as needed. Speaks to how much talent he believe he has.

I think BU's substitution comments speak mainly to this being an exhibition and the season having not yet started.

Mirk is ready to play but there is no point in him taking the risk and playing in an exhibition game. Easy decision.

The implication of Brad telling us Mirk isn't playing tomorrow is that he is likely game to game.
Hopefully. On the other hand, I am sure someone from the press will ask him about Mirk every single time Brad holds a press conference or interview. Not disagreeing. Kind of a chicken-and-egg situation, maybe?

104-78 good guys. Baylor’s guards have trouble guarding our jumbo sharp shooters on the perimeter which also opens up a ton of off ball cutting and slashing, and Baylor’s mid-tier defense doesn’t have an answer. Our defense is much more cohesive with a limited scout on Baylor but not yet in final form.

This begins the questions about the lethality of Florida’s offense, and this paired with a lackluster performance against Miami leads Florida to dropping 2 spots in the AP poll, setting up a 1 vs 2 matchup at Cameron indoor on 11/17.

So Big Ten Plus offers Pay Per View on games now. Anyone have any idea if the ppv games are not included in the 1 month subscriptions?
According to this on bigten.org, some (but not all) of the October exhibition games -- including the Baylor at Illinois game -- are "Available as pay-per-view" for $8.99, on the bigtenplus.com website only (not the app). (I haven't seen anything about ppv on bigtenplus.com but I've already paid a subscription, and I'm not going to register a new account to investigate this issue :) )

Anyone who has an account and has not paid a subscription feel free to login and go to this page on bigtenplus.com and see if there's a pay-per-view option.

Note- according to the link on bigten.org ppv is only for the Baylor game, none of the other IL games on B1G+ have a ppv option.

Is the "Alt-Cast" included in a ppv? I don't know. I searched around the B1G+ Help Center and found nothing about a ppv. So in conclusion, good luck & Go Illini

Fox owns 61% of Big Ten network and it’s a greedy, convoluted !!!! show. It should not be so difficult or costly to watch a college exhibition game.

Help me understand? The PPV option 8.99 is only for the Baylor/Illinois game? No other games included?
