One thing I liked BU said is it may be time to use the bench as motivation. I totally think so and agree. Especailly when players don't listen or join in a huddle.

Trying to get another person to do something is always a tall order. You cannot motivate another person from the outside... at least not for very long. All you can do is hope to lead that other person to locate their own On Switch and leave it ON.

Coaches can teach. They can run practices. They can talk. They can view tape. They can frame games. They can be your Dad when you need one or your Mom if you need a hug. They can try to push all the right buttons. But in the end it always comes down to what is going on INSIDE that other person.

No one at the Major College level should need to be motivated from the outside. That in itself is embarrassing. These young men have been given a precious opportunity to occupy a spot on a Major College Ball Team and showcase their talents on the big stage. That should enough to get one motivated all on their own. A hundred other guys would love to be in the spot these guys are in.

Whether College or Pro... you as a player have a responsibility to your Institution... to your Coaches... to your teammates... and ultimately, to YOURSELF. You write your legacy with each time down the floor... with each pass... with each shot... with each time you encourage one of your teammates.

The desire to win games and the desire to become a better player is all one should need to prosper. Anything less than that and there is something wrong that a Coach probably can’t fix.

Perhaps a certain percentage of the $$$$ in the NIL pool should be distributed based on team performance??????

My on switch is piles of cash delivered at regular intervals. It has worked for decades. I don't think I'd be anywhere near as productive if they made me eat it.

Time to get back on track. The Bragging rights game was an absolute embarrassment in many ways, but I think people's responses (including some of my own in my whiskey gulping state directly following that "game") are pretty over the top. We got dressed down by a veteran team on a night we couldn't make a shot and they couldn't miss.

Obviously, our response to adversity was embarrassing, and can NOT be repeated... but....

The feeling at the time was that we are a far superior team to Mizzou, but after watching them dismantle UK in similar fashion last night (another 30-point game from Kobe Brown), part of the problem most of us were (and some still are) ignoring is that Missouri might actually be really good at basketball.

I understand that but what player doesn't want to play? If being benched won't motivate you then nothing will

He can indeed be hyperbolic but I also think there were some missed details in what he said (by some on the board). For example I believe he said something about free throws but someone took it as free throw percentage made when I believe he was talking about percentage of plays getting to the line. Obviously both are pretty helpful to do well at but kinda related to your point, different problems need different solutions.
I stated in one of my posts that BU talked about FT rate and I know he meant how many fouls we get called on our opponents ....I understood exactly what he was referring to .....I added , ok , we need to make a higher % of them but I knew what he was referring to ......cool ??.................

It's funny we're ragging on BU for using analytics, when analytics is what caused him to change from his pressure defense after year 2. Since then we've been the best team in the B1G.
hmm..........I was ragging on BU about analytics , but it seems an analytic can't be used in various ways without further explanation............

I still can't understand BU saying our D is elite ............Numerous switching loss of man or mismatch's resulting in easy drives in the paint for layups or dun ks by our opponents.........Eerily similar to his first Defensive scheme in his first 2 years......nitpicking on if it is different or not , my eyes have seen buku bunches of similar scores by our opponents as the first 2 years here resulting in 2 or 3 points against us no matter what how you slice and dice it up as whatever fit's your desires.............

Again , I hope BU retires here after many more years of great BB , but I am so worried that the team aspect has been lost , misplaced or been forgotten about.......

I guess we will see starting with tonight's game if progress has been made as far as chemistry or team play has improved .......JMHO

I'm looking to win the trifecta today in a non betting way......

1st win..............I got notified this morning that I have been excused from jury duty , due to my medical conditions.......

2nd win.................The Illini play like a team tonight and blow beth-c off the court with a big win....................

3rd win.................the Blues pound the hated blackhawks into submission sometime like 7-0........................

I will be a very happy man if this transpires today .................
