Ben will be guarding Cooper Flagg. Nuff's said.
I actually think Ben will guard Knueppel and I actually kinda like that matchup.

Tre seems most likely to take Flagg to me and it does seem like he’s getting his defensive bite back somewhat.

Still a shame we are so sick and beat up. Completely healthy I think we match up well.

EDIT: I will also add that even if at our current strength we are likely the most talented team they’ve played in 2 months, if not the best (might give the slight edge to full strength Clemson).

He wouldn't be in this spot with fans including me, if he didn't have 2- 20 somethings running show. Running Chester and Tim off. He earned a down year or two. He has shown all coaches what not to do with staff, if you wanna keep 6 million per year and love of fan base. I simply hope we do not get beat by 30 Saturday. I have a strong impression he lost this team weeks ago!

I think the question on everyone’s mind is this, will Jake Davis be available?
Imagine if you asked this question after our beat down of Oregon, people would be like WTF happened. And here we are.

Surprising amount of respect on the Duke message board, with the caveat that all are obviously predicting a win ... but it is very much in the "Don't overlook this team's crap record, they have played really well at times!" kind of way. :ROFLMAO: FWIW, this is my effort to stay 110% positive.

We are theoretically due for a "great performance." Here are our games since January 1, with opponents blinded, and my super subjective analysis of how we played overall.

1/2 - ELITE
1/5 - Average
1/8 - Great (missing players)
1/11 - Bad (missing players)
1/14 - Great
1/19 - Average
1/23 - HORRIBLE (missing players)
1/26 - Average (missing players)
1/30 - HORRIBLE (missing players)
2/2 - Average
2/5 - Bad
2/8 - Great
2/11 - Good
2/15 - Bad
2/18 - HORRIBLE

So since Indiana, we have only had one great performance, and it was vs. a bad Minnesota team. Let's all pray we're due to randomly start shooting like snipers, haha.
Agree for most of this... just my 2 cents:

If Oregon is elite, then PSU and IU are elite too. All three were literally record setting performances.

NW was a great performance. It was a total, inexcusable mental lapse at the end but there was zero chance of losing that game. We were up 15-20 for literally like 90% of the game. Judging it overall, Illinois jumped out and totally dominated.

And also... "bad Minnesota team" - they just won @UCLA. That's a better team than some of the other teams we've lost to (USC, RU) ... and was a much more losable game than some of the games we have lost. But to your point, we dominated and should have dominated - they probably aren't a great team as they have no shot of being in the tournament... but looking at our resume, I'm not ready to take any win for granted lol.

Overall, the two biggest things for this team is to get healthy and have Kasparas playing well. In all of those bad/horrible, KJ was bad/horrible or wasn't playing (USC) - and that just simply can't happen given our expectations of him and how important he is to the team.

Anyone besides Morez out? I know Tomi is hobbled, but playing through it. Tre status?

This is rapidly becoming a "maybe I should pick up the dog!!!! in the yard" rather than make a conscious effort to watch this game game.

Not to derail the thread, but just a few of my responses to try to justify some of my decisions (and also, thank you for your feedback!).

- I put Oregon as elite and the other two as great based on the assumption that Oregon was a much better team than Indiana or PSU. We also shot SO much better vs. Oregon than we have since, so we really did just look super unstoppable in that game in a way that I felt was even superior to Indiana/PSU and therefore deserved its own category.
- For wins like OSU and Northwestern, I tried to "average out" my subjective ranking based on the whole game. For example, I felt the second half vs. OSU was unambiguously good, but our "comprehensive performance" included playing sloppily and digging ourselves an unnecessary double digit deficit in the first place. I'll actually concede Northwestern as good, though, even with the bizarre almost-collapse.
- I literally had no idea Minnesota won at UCLA, as I have consciously tried to check out from this frustrating season a bit since traveling to attend the MSU game in person, haha ... so point taken!

As for your last point about KJ, I could not agree more. I am not sure what a "Game Score" really entails, but Sports Reference includes it as a stat that tries to gauge a player's overall productivity. For context, KJ's has ranged from 20.7 in our win at Minnesota all the way to -0.2 in the loss at Rutgers, lol. But this is the crazy stat (obviously this only includes games where KJ played).

1) We are 14-1 when KJ has a score of 12.0 or more. And the only loss was the OT loss at Northwestern back in December.
2) We are 2-8 when KJ has a score less than 12.0. Of those two wins, one was vs. Oakland.

Rephrased since January 1...

1) 6-0 when KJ has a score of 12.0 or more.
2) 1-6 when KJ has a score less than 12.0.

Most people that I have talked to about how this season has gone are stunned. No one can believe that we are playing this bad given the way we started the season. Well, I hope we can put 1-2 more games in the W column. At this point, my hope is that we can make the tourney.

Which is why I believe the injuries and illnesses are not an excuse and have seriously derailed this team.

Not Duke's best teams but this was an Illinois team made up of Chicago and Peoria area players and areas inbetween. Duke already was a national recruiter with a roster of MCAA. Collins not an Illinois favorite, it was not enough for him to pick Duke over Illinois. But Coach Doug through the Illinois program under the bus at the press conference. I remember they didn't appreciate Illinois giving them a timeline which they took as an ultimatum. Something all programs do unless they are in a situation when they can afford to wait for a superstar. I beleive we ended up with Richard Keene instead of Collins which I'm totally fine with.

Random Question # 2: Is this Chris Webber in an Illinois hat?? Or an optical illusion? (It is an unaltered picture.)

Nothing to lose, but so much to win. Regardless of how I feel about the staff’s decision making up to this point, I’m still pretty hyped about this game! This is a good opportunity to show who has that dawg in them when the lights are at their brightest. That can quickly boost our confidence heading into March. I’d like someone to go off, even if we don’t pull out a W. But maybe we will.. crazier things have happened.
