Take it from someone who follows the school...EIU is going to be absolutely awful this year. Would be surprised if this is anything but a glorified scrimmage.
Any update on Guerrier after last night’s late collision? Hope both guys involved are alright.
Go Illini
worse than last year? I remember thinking they weren't completely awful when we played them last year.Take it from someone who follows the school...EIU is going to be absolutely awful this year. Would be surprised if this is anything but a glorified scrimmage.
I liked what I saw from that kid.Any update on Guerrier after last night’s late collision? Hope both guys involved are alright.

Hamlin still playing for them? I usually root for ex-Illini with a few exceptionsTake it from someone who follows the school...EIU is going to be absolutely awful this year. Would be surprised if this is anything but a glorified scrimmage.
Not so much that loss itself, but the season that followed it.Is that loss the lowest point of the program? It sure felt like it at the time.

Been a bit of a rough go for the Panthers the last few seasons. They used to be more middle of the pack in the OVC. Now they're God awful.
Didn't they upset Iowa last year? It's been a bit of a rough go for quite awhile. While I will admit that there was a change that needed to be made when they fired Jay Spoonhour after the 2020-21 season, Marty Simmons has been absolutely horrible as a coach. It's reminiscent of some of the bad years they had under Mike Miller in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
Yep.Didn't they upset Iowa last year?
In terms of trajectory, I think you're right. Is that loss the lowest point of the program? It sure felt like it at the time.
This is one thing I do have a complaint about with Brad and scheduling in recent years. While he has done a fine job of scheduling the high quality games, he really needs to do a better job at scheduling the fattening cupcakes (300+ ranked) where no matter the margin of victory or efficiency stats, there is no way to overcome how badly they weigh down the SOS and Quality of Competition metrics. This year alone we have 5 opponents ranked 300+ and a 6th who isn't all that far off! There is absolutely no need for this considering there is very little difference in the ability of a P5 team to beat a 200-250 ranked team at home vs. a 300+ team. I've performed the mathematical breakdown on here before of why playing 300+ ranked opponents is so bad, as no matter what you do in those games it only negatively impacts your efficiency metrics and resume due to the quality of opponent hit, so I won't do it again, but just to compare coaches:Eastern is #338 on KenPom for those interested… 338 out of 362.

Brad:
2024: 5 300+, 1 250+
2023: 6 300+
2022: 2 300+, 1 250+
2021: 1 300+, 1 250+
2020: 2 300+, 2 250+
2019: 1 300+
2018: 3 300+, 1 250+
Groce:
2017: 1 300+
2016: 2 300+
2015: 3 300+, 2 250+
2014: 1 300+, 3 250+
2013: 1 250+
Weber
2012: 2 300+, 2 250+
2011: 1 300+, 1 250+
2010: 2 300+
2009: 1 300+, 2 250+
2008: None
2007: 1 300+, 2 250+
2006: 3 300+, 2 250+
2005: 2 300+
2004: 2 300+
Generally, the rule of thumb is 2 300+ ranked opponents at absolute most a season, something we were able to keep to 16 of the 19 seasons prior to the last two. The last 2 seasons though we've averaged 5.5 a season! It's simply really poor scheduling that shouldn't happen and just playing this many of these type of games can cost you a line ot two in the bracket.
Agreed. That was the game that came to mind for me too. Not a good memory. In terms of trajectory, I think you're right.
This one felt even worse as a one-off: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/recap/_/gameId/303520082
UIC at the UCIs that loss the lowest point of the program? It sure felt like it at the time.
