But it’s a game with paid admissions. We can not forget that the DIA just went through a season with NO fans=not much money coming in while massively upgrading basketball facilities.
I am guessing that the fans part is more important than whatever revenue it generated (there were costs associated with opening the SFC too). The excitement generated by a exhibition game, that some saw live, far outweighs the downside. They can scrimmage themselves everyday if they want, and often do. JMHO.

I would have loved to have been in attendance and I would have cheered my butt off......101-34 sounds like my kind of Illini win......I don't care who it was against....Just seeing the Illini running up and down the court throttling anyone would be a blast for me.......

How does this team compare to St Francis?
Much much better. This is a real D-II team, complete with players on scholarship. The coac takes them to exhibition games against Kentucky, Michigan State, etc. IUP (their abbreviation) is no threat to Illinois, but most D-I teams are t either.

Probably the only thing I'm curious about for this game is the line-ups. The starters are known at this point, but the depth is not. A lot of guys are going to be competing for minutes, and these early games say a lot for them. You never know when you're going to have to go deeper on the bench than you'd like, so showing well could be a big deal for guys further down the depth chart.

Agree. Much better than St. Francis and a step up in competition on the ramp up to the D1 season.

- IUP is 1-11 all-time vs D1 opponents (with the one win vs. Bucknell - Bill Self may be jealous)
Link: IUP record v D1 opponents

- In 2012, IUP lead a Maryland team (that finished with a 25-13 record and middle of the pack in the ACC) at halftime before losing by 12. (That Maryland team went on to lose to #3 Kentucky by 3 a week later, and beat #2 Duke twice later that season.)

- 13 consecutive seasons ranked in the D2 Top 25.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — University of Illinois basketball coach Brad Underwood doesn’t expect another 67-point blowout in the Fighting Illini’s second exhibition.
In fact, he doesn’t want one.
“There won’t be much talent disparity tomorrow,” Underwood said of Friday’s 7 p.m. exhibition game against Indiana University of Pennsylvania at State Farm Center. “That’s why they’re on the schedule. They’ve got real dudes, real size. I hope they come out and punch us, and I can’t wait to see how we react.”

Named Big Ten Conference Preseason Player of the Year earlier this week, junior center Kofi Cockburn believes the Illini must continue to strive toward the level of toughness Underwood demands.
“Last year’s team had more of an edge because we knew we were a target. Every team wanted to kill us,” Cockburn said. “We don’t have that edge right now. I think we’ll get it soon.”
Cockburn said the Player of the Year honor “means a lot. I worked hard, and it’s paying off right now. It’s a blessing. These guys are going to continue to push me whether I’m Big Ten Player of the Year or not. But it’s always good to get the accolade.”

Speculation is ramping up over whether Cockburn will be hit with a suspension by the NCAA for selling gear before the new name, image and likeness rule allowing such activity went into effect.
“You want to know what’s going on,” admitted Cockburn. “But I’m not really worried about that right now. I’m worried about winning with this team. It’s a really talented team. I’m excited and ready to go.

This is the most upset I have been regarding the Illini BB team since the B1G buffoons gave scUM the regular season championship without playing all their games.......If Kofi gets any suspension it will be such a travesty and shows the inept leadership by Emmert and his crew of clowns......

I remember the preseason games that were played on a Friday or Saturday on BIG Plus coming on the BIG Ten network a day or two after the game actually took place. Where is that this year?

I waited to sign up for BTN+ until today. I am now able to watch the St Francis game on replay and will be able to watch the remaining games on BTN+ and only pay for it for one month.

This is exactly what I've been saying about this team....we've got plenty of talent and a great deal of balance offensively and defensively....just don't know how we'll deal with some adversity, not hitting shots...early foul trouble....suspensions....etc....etc

I am old enough that I remember the Dave Wilson fiasco. A small, cynical, whipped dog part of me would not be surprised if Kofi to be suspended for the entire season.

Remember when Miller left and Damone, trent, and Kofi hadn't committed to coming back and we all thought this would be a rebuilding year? Wild
