Sad Illini fun fact: The last time our Illini defeated a Power 5 team that ended the year with a winning record was November 22 2014. The Reilly O'Toole David Reisner miracle vs. Penn State.

More relevant to Indiana. No chance here, we cannot defend the spread. Credit to the staff, kids have not quit. Going to be ugly though. Indiana 45 Illinois 10.

Would love so much to be wrong.

Indiana has lost their last four games. They are 0-6 (conference). This most likely will be our last chance to win a conference game this year. Let's give them their 5th loss in a row.

When the going gets tough.....the tough get going

My main take away. Clean up penalties, especially targeting and mental errors like delay, false start etc and I'll be satisfied with the progress.

Clean up penalties, eliminate personal fouls/targeting, and tackle.
Tackling is good.

I believe we are the answer to every struggling team's woes. We will find a way... to beat ourselves.

Actually, in all seriousness, it would be a huge positive if we could not beat ourselves this weekend, and make them do it.

I hope for a game that's still close by the third quarter.

I think Thomas shows a lot of promise. His touch on passes is much better than Juice’s was at this point. Besides him we have a lot of positive pieces. Maybe it all clicks and we beat the Loosiers.

maybe the throw from Thomas that has impressed me most up to this point was in yesterday's game throwing from the close hash (as viewed on TV) to Thieman on the opposite sideline. A difficult throw to make for any QB, and he put a ton of spin on the ball and zipped it out to Thieman quickly.

also in contention: throw to turner on the IL sideline vs Rutgers

People get do down and so critical of the coaches and players and while losing games is tough, I give Lovie a ton of credit for the way he's going about building his program.

He is putting his butt on the line with the kids he recruited. He is playing his guys, no matter how young. There's going to be no, well he's winning with the previous coaches players. He's truly BUILDING a program from the ground up and he's not going deviate from his plan. He knows that they are going to take a beating this year playing so many freshman. He's willing to invest in "his guys" now, with dividends paying off next year and the year after. He's also selling playing time as freshman to future recruits. You're not going to build a winning program and make it sustainable by peppering the lineup with a Juniors and seniors at the expense of the freshmen he's bringing in. You hope for a Cubs/Astros type rebuild where you take lumps early with playing young guys and watch them mature physically and mentally over the next three years. Then, bring in another crop of young talent to piggy back this group and so on. I wouldn't focus on wins and losses THIS year. The day of reckoning will come in two years when this current group of freshmen are Juniors and he's had two of his own classes behind them. I suspect you'll see a much better product. They won't fade in the second half from bring physically worn down and there will be a lot more chemistry, knowledge and experience to draw from. He's taking full ownership of his program with his guys, being coached by his staff and he'll live with the results, good or bad, in a couple of years. I commend him for that. It took a few years of bad program management to get us this point and it will take a few years to build up and get us out of the disaster previous regimes put us in.

Will depth show up this game, or do we really need to wait until next year. Rhetorical question, of course.

Lovie previews Indiana

https://twitter.com/JWerner247

Media luncheon spent counting #Illini injury list. 18 players missed last game.

Sounds like #illini LB Tre Watson may return this season. Also, optimism that Tito Odenigbo and Kenyon Jackson will return this week.

Just a reminder: starting 16 true freshmen and playing 22 true freshman is not normal. #illini

Nate Echard could apply for sixth year. Tony Adams and Mike Epstein played 5 games, over 30 percent threshold.

Lovie: DC Hardy Nickerson's mother passed away unexpectedly. Won't be here this week.

Lovie: When you've lost as many games as we have, you're just trying to look for some bright spots to keep players motivated.

Lovie: We played good football for moments of time but not being able to put together 4 quarters has really hurt us.

Lovie: Cam Thomas took a step.

Couple passes we'd like to have back. But he gave us a chance.

Lovie: Kendrick Foster did some good things. Defensive line, especially two DTs, did some good things.

Lovie: We're a little banged up right now. But nobody wants to hear about that.

Lovie: Indiana like us has been in a lot of games but haven't been able to finish.

Lovie: Working through what we'll do with Hardy out.

Lovie: Don't know if Nickerson will be at the game.

Lovie: When anything happens family-wise, I insist on them to take care of their families. We'll pick up the slack.

Lovie: I have called a couple defensive games. We may be OK.

Lovie: You just got to look at it the way it is. We have a lot of injuries. Some years you have more than others.

Lovie: Tre Watson could return this season. He's making progress.

Lovie: I don't know if we have any RBs who could compete for playing time. Reggie Corbin could return this week.

Lovie: Reality is it's no fun losing. Young guys have been resilient.

Lovie: Getting a lot of playing time. Know our roster a lot better. We're seeing improvement from young players.

Until it translates into a win, it's hard to tell you we're improving behind the scenes, but we are.

Lovie: Players are showing up every day. You keep grinding. Winning small battles behind the scenes.

Lovie: We have to do a better job coaching. Players have to get better. Preparation has to be better.

Lovie: Don't list starters, but if you look at the trend at QB, clear Cam Thomas is making progress.

Lovie: Jamal Milan has a lot of ability. He's taken steps last 3 weeks. Legitimate inside defensive lineman.

Lovie: @jhardee_19 was here on his bye week. Loves the university. For him to have a game like that, it was good to see.

Lovie: Indiana spreads it out a lot. More of a passing team that will run is how I'd describe them.

Lovie: OL didn't play as well as we need to play. Center going down threw us back a little bit.

I agree. I watched the game, and what I saw in the close-ups of him was a confident young QB: no sign of panic or uncertainty in his eyes. I love watching the guy run. I think his passing will improve.

One more thing that impressed me: those Illini uniforms, white on blue, much better than all the others which , frankly, stink IMO. Don't like the burnt orange look or all the gray/silver nonsense. I think Oregon started all the wild uniform stuff. Enough already.

Beat the Indianas!

I couldn't agree with Oleoleahy more. One more thing: don't like block "I" on helmet: too generic, drab. I'd prefer throwback "ILLINI". Fighting Illini: great name. Announcers seem to enjoy saying it.

There's talk of creating a mascot for the Fightings. (The Chief was not a mascot.)

I hope this doesn't mean messing with Fighting Illini team name.

Thanks for your time.

I'm so confused:D:D

Yup. And with his moniker we have 80 years to be successful! Seriously, I agree wholeheartedly. Patience.

Hey, the moniker was in reference to the Cubs and they did it 85 years from the deadline I set forth! :clappy:

Winthisdecade is my moniker with regards to our football and basketball team.

Is Indiana a better football team than Purdue ?

Indy loves to throw the ball almost a 2-1 ratio Pass vs Run. The Field Goal Kicker is 96% with a long of 51 yards this year.

The Line is Indiana is favored by 9.5 at Illinois.

Can some one out here help me with breaking down Illinois Defense in regards to the passing game ? To me it seems that the best part of their game.
