Yeah for me it shows we got to 50k+ without making any price adjustments. This is actually really impressive and portends big things should we keep winning. I'll tell you why.

Did some quick desktop research this morning on Google Trends to get a gut check of what the interest level is for the football team. (Google trends measures the search volume for specific terms or topics). Interest in Illinois football isnt as high as many of us probably think. The IU game did lots of damage in that regard.

For example, before IU, Illinois indexed higher than Minnesota, 53 to 47 (out of 100). Then we lost and this happened.

Week 2
UI: 31
MN: 48

Week 3
UI: 16
MN: 64

Week 4
UI: 18
MN: 86

Week 5
UI: 45
MN: 100

People are still hesitant to jump on the bandwagon. If we can just keep winning and crack the top 25, we'll start to see more people climb aboard which will equate to near sell outs.

Again, the fact that we're 13k tickets away from a sellout for a team with relatively low interest from casual fans shows just how much support our fanbase has for this team and this staff.
I do understand the sentiment. After the IU game I had pretty much succumbed to the fact that nothing had changed. Decided to listen to some of the UVA game while working on stuff instead of wasting 4 hours of my life watching it. Glad that I paid attention, and have watched since, but that IU game was pretty disheartening, particularly for a program that has struggled like we have. Made it pretty easy to think, "just the same old Illini."

With that said, I'll be making the trip for the game on Saturday.

If I am going to ask for something, I’m going to ask for something BIG! I want revenge for 63-0 . . . Saturday will be

Illini 64
Squawkeyes 0
Palcho, Marchese, Avery, Martin, Pearl, Pihlstrom, Sydney Brown, Kendall Smith, we have a ton of guys who were a part of that game. I am sure no motivation is necessary.

We went a weirdly long time without playing them before the B1G West started, but regardless, to not have beaten them since 2008 is disgusting and must be remedied immediately.

For what it’s worth, 50k is about 80 percent. People who study this sort of things say that maximum capacity for church attendance is 80 percent. People think that it’s full and it’s hard to get more people to come.

That not directly comparable to a football stadium, but it does suggest that the stadium will look full with 50k inside.

F+ rankings from Football Outsiders was just updated based on last week's results. And as much as we love Illinois' defense, the Iowa defense is actually graded #2 in the country compared to #8 for Illinois by their metrics. Their offense is #92 compared to Illinois #83.

I think this is going to come down to some key plays and made field goals and home field advantage.

Looking at the drive logs, every Michigan drive ended in Iowa territory until middle of 3rd quarter. So mich did have success. Whether Michigan played conservative up 20-0, or Iowa adjusted, just don’t know. Mich had 3 3n outs afterwards.
Hoping in this case stats/ranking look better than actual

Based on this, I would love to see this game be Lunney's Jr offense coming out party!! I would love to see 70 points for the good guys. It's been long over due.

Let's hope gameday operations can handle 50k

Good work to those involved... much more reasonable. I do feel bad for anyone that spent ~3x as much earlier in the week, but regardless, I hope everyone that can make it has a great experience!
I do not have a problem with price fluctuations or declines for less desirable seats. I bought tickets weeks ago at full price, and I do not care if the person next to me spent less. At the end of the day, I want a good game day experience with as many people as possible - that adds to the value of my ticket. With buying early, I was purchasing certainty with regard to availability and seat selection. This is not different than flying on an airplane - I don’t care that the person sitting next to me got their ticket for less through some last minute discount.

While true on TV, I’ve come to the conclusion that 53k is an especially magic number to make it look like a sellout and an amazing atmosphere … we need that going forward!
