Wonder if we will ever break this streak? Thinking it has to be this year as ESPN will certainly downplay the Big Ten, and especially those outside of UM / tOSU, when the new TV contracts are in place.

Not sure about being the favorite but the last time we beat Iowa we had a different Isiah Williams on the team.
lol ugh good lord that is so unacceptable and pathetic how down our football program has been. I remember that win over Iowa too and their inbred fan base spewing so much NSFW that can't be repeated on here towards Juice and Benn on their message board.

We have to beat Iowa period. No excuses. GO ILLINI!

perhaps November 12th against Purdue if that has Big Ten West implications? Not sure who else is playing that week.

Our home opponents haven't been holding up their end of the bargain toward the possibility of making that happen.

Which is good news. Just win baby.

What is the overlap between those who encourage raising salaries for assistants and rehabbing Memorial Stadium and those who are complaining about a $75 ticket price in a rivalry game?
LOL. I almost posted something similar (though you composed it better than I would have).

I don’t have a problem with the “surge”pricing for Big Games. First, a season ticket for 7 games is approximately $180. Second, for non-conference games, they put together some pretty nice packages if you want to bring a family. Third, the “surge” pricing is very common in other sports (I.e. MLB)
Finally, football revenues are extremely important to the overall athletic programs. For a big rivalry game, I don’t think the pricing is out of line. If it was an overpriced ticket, you’d see $15 tickets on Stubhub.
I don’t have a problem with the price or the concept in general except for the hypocrisy coming out of the DIA. Demand is saturated at the price points they are offering, and need to lower prices to fill the stadium. Having Bielema spamming press conferences with pleas to fans is only going to get fans to search for tickets, the price will determine if they buy them or not.

If the DIA determined their current pricing model optimizes revenue then fine, whatever, but don’t criticize the fans who stayed home, and say the team deserves more support.

Sorry but I have to laugh/scoff at this.

$1500 - two last minute round trip plane tickets from Charlotte
$ 160 - parking at Charlotte airport
$ 150 - two tickets to the game
$ 230 - 3-day car rental from O'Hare
$ 110 - gasoline
$ 500 - two nights at local C-U hotel
$ 200 - Illini gear
$ 450 - meals (for two) on Friday-Saturday-Sunday
-------
$3300 Cost for attending 1 game with spouse or child. One might think that the 800,000 living alumni are fighting to get the 30,000 remaining tickets.

Oh - and $3300 is totally worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
* The Illini play just 7 home football games per year.
* Partying and reminiscing with friends, relatives and fellow fans.
* The smell and feel of crisp, cool October air.
* The "campus buzz" of a once great football team being revived by an outstanding new coach and staff.
* The faith and hope that we may once again be playing on New Year's Day.

And if you're fortunate enough to live and work locally, just substitute $200 for the $3300, above...........
I honestly cannot tell if you’re being sarcastic here or not.

Many people working in big cities on the coasts could, and will, drop this kind of coin

If you have any family in the area stay with them and knock the hotel and rental car costs down!

Maybe week @ MI? We may need to win out until then to make it happen. First glance seems like Georgia vs Kentucky, and Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State might be most likely.

Counter point: one could argue $75 for a big ten football ticket is a bargain, especially for a key conference / divisional game:

From a student’s perspective, season tickest for Illini football are competitive / attractive:

Some of our fans may not be ready for this team to succeed:

Regardless of whether you decide to attend in person on cheer on at home…

Go Illini!

I think the streak is not having CGD in Champaign, so this still wouldn’t count.

Speaking of ticket prices: completely by chance this afternoon, as I was cleaning out some (really) old boxes I came across a bunch of stuff from my UIUC days.

Among these I found my ticket stub from the Oct. 1990 game v. #24 Sparty. (Classic BT game, ABC 2:30 p.m. slot; Illini #8 in polls; Doug Higgins' five FGs, including the winner with under a minute left, gave the Illini a 15-13 win and kept us tied for 1st.)

We sat in the west balcony 20 rows up (so ~ halfway up, since this was long before the sky boxes ate up 2/3 of that balcony.) Down at the (IIRC) 10 yard line near the south EZ.

Ticket cost $20. That's ~ $45 in today's greenbacks. If the DIA is charging $75 face today for what I gather are similar, if not inferior, seats, that's 67% more than I paid for my seat in '90.

Especially given what I'd guess is dramatically lower demand today than existed for Illini football tiks in 1990, that demonstrates a huge growth in the cost base of the program.

I also found the stub for the game in Columbus two weekends earlier, when we beat #20 OSU 31-20. I bought it from the ticket office in Assembly Hall the preceding summer. Seats were in the visitors' section down near field level at the goal line.

It cost $19 (so, again, around $45 in today's $$.) My buddies snagged gameday scalper tickets in the upper deck for, as I recall, around $25.

Those were the days... I just checked StubHub. Similar seats for the OSU game v. Indiana in November? $250-300.

One source I’ve found says the cost to tuition has gone up 413% since 1990, whereas cost of tickets has gone up just 375%.

So attending games today is a bargain 😉

Yeah… but I still have to pay my butler $3000 for staying at my mansion and not actually doing any butlering while I’m gone. Sure, I could bring him with me, but then that’s another five to ten grand in temporary security I’ll need to hire with no one there except two maids, a gardening team and my personal astrologer. I scoff at your scoffing.

Are there any advanced stats out there that show rankings with things like strength of opponent, tempo, home/away, etc baked into the rankings?

I know Bill Connely does a thing called SP+ but he works for ESPN so most of his stuff is behind a paywall. Are there any sites like college football's version of barttorvik?
It's not KenPom for football but Jeff Sagarin has similar ratings:

We're up to #37. Iowa's #36, virtually tied with us. Should be a tight game Saturday evening.
