Does playing super late at night benefit a really good offensive team or a really good defensive team more? Or does it really not give either team an advantage.
I know it's a serious disadvantage for me. That's like almost time for breakfast.

I like Coleman on Momislivok, 6.10 on 6.10.
I like our post with DainDanger and Quincy.
Guard play will decide game. Tsjr., Domask, TyRodgers, Harmon, and Goode.
If foul calls are limited its gonna be a great game. If there are some questionable ticky tack calls will be tuff!
Free throw shooting could be the deciding factor.
We have not beat a great team all year, I think this is the game! IMO

You think Marquette at home was a tougher game than what Iowa State will be? I get it was one of the 4 ranked teams they played all year (Purdue twice I know, still the same team), but it was at home. I hope your team underestimates Iowa State as much as some on this board do.
Cyclones by 18! Right?

Nah the Cyclones are very legit. Absolutely nobody on this board should even be uttering the word “UConn” yet. Y’all will be a true test. Gonna be a helluva game.

There is zero chance that the team will be underestimating ISU. As far as us fans go, this is an Illinois fan board. What do you expect to find here. All of us are expecting a win. Hope that doesn’t offend you.

I would rather Illinois play Marquette at home to advance to E8 than Iowa State in Boston. Now, Purdue at home or Iowa State in Boston is a fun, theoretical question.

Someone can correct me if im wrong, but i believe the latest start time for an Illinois game this year was 8 pm vs mizzou. How can the ncaa think starting a game at 10 pm local time is fair?

Good time to remind folks that Illinois might have a random, mid-week 10pm tip-off next year because the Big Ten is very focused on the student-athlete experience

Mate, i thought you wanted civil discussion :)

I think you're trying to say, "Wow, i'm surprised you think Marquette at home was a tougher game than what ISU on a neutral floor will be, but then again Marquette is also a 2-seed and in the S16... best of luck to you and yor team!" :p

No one is underestimating Iowa state. Your fanbase is doing that way more than we are, took a look at the cyclone board and yikes

My biggest fear in this game is Iowa State's got this big guy called Ward. He sets the best pick and roll SCREENS. I've seen all season. And it opens up their entire guard play and they're easy rebounds and put backs. We've got to freaking gameplan against Ward's pick and rolls. Period

ISU fan here visiting your board. It's great to see a forum presence for an Iowa State opponent in the tournament and can hopefully have some civil discussion before Thursday.

To this point above, there is next to zero chance Iowa State plays zone. They have players that have shown they can match up man to man against some of the best teams in the country. Their defense is elite and has been the last 3 years (5th in 2022, 8th in 2023, Currently 2nd in 2024) under Coach Otz, zone isn't going to start in the Sweet 16. The thing that has changed in the last 3 years is the offense they went from 171 to 114 to this year at 48.

This Iowa State team will probably be the second or third best team Illinois has played this year.

Thanks, and I had to go check out an Iowa State forum too. cyclonefanatic.com/forum/threads/illinois-matchup - both sides have some passionate fans

The match up should make for a great game. I do think it all boils down to how well Illinois plays defense. They can lock up, but it is not what we like to do.

But if it turn out to be a fast paced game, I don't think Iowa State can run with Illinois!!

We'll see Thursday

Illinois had multiple games this season, including the Mizzou game, that had an 8:00 PM CT start. When we get to the tournament, the start time becomes really irrelevant. I mean, we have had people on here complain in the past about the players not being ready for a mid-afternoon Saturday start for a B1G game. The players will be fine.

I like that we're the 2nd game. In our 5 postseason games this season, we've been game 2 of a session 3/5 times — including both Omaha games. Iowa State was game 1 both times in Omaha. Ergo, we're more used to the "game 2" flow, so minor advantage to us.

Hey now, I am fully on board with #B1GAfterDark . And the players won't care as much about those west coast starts since they'll basically be a close to regular start time that they would normally have in this part of the country.

Yes. Marquette at home in early/mid November (before we had a defined rotation and defined roles) was a more difficult game than Iowa State on a neutral court in late March.

We're currently playing our best basketball of the year. We have two well-tested first team All Big 10 players, a deep & talented bench, and exceptional team chemistry honed over a grueling Big Ten schedule. If I have a concern right now, it's our defense. We're not tenacious, not strong in the paint (like the Kofi years) and we're nowhere close to Houston-good.

We are the fans. People can get 2025 National Champions tattooed on their face. There are no "looking past them" concerns for this group.
Do you believe in sports juju? I do. Us fans have some pretty quirky rituals we exercise and major no-no’s we avoid like the plague leading up games. Focusing on the game after next is NOT good juju. Is it neurotic? Absolutely. But alas.

Wow, in my observations of the 2 days of the tournament, I forgot. Terrance Shannon Jr.. has averages 30pts his last 8 games. He has proven the past 2 weeks he is a top 5 pick in this years draft.
He will not be slowing down, someone tried to steal His 15million. Iowa St. Will not slow him down and he will shoot 15 free throws, IMO..
Iowa St. Board thank you for reminding me!

Baylor is a solid comp to Illinois over the course of the season and Iowa State went 1-1 losing by 2 after a buzzer beater got waived off (correctly) in Waco and winning by 14 in the Big 12 tournament. For the record I think Illinois is playing better now than they have all year, and Iowa State is playing their best basketball of the season currently (minus the first 8 minutes of ISU's game Saturday) so this should be, in my opinion, the best game of the weekend. Contrasting styles is always fun to watch.
