I think Walter Payton is rolling over in his grave to have his image associated with that travishamockery of a post.
SuperFanatic Cylcone Man Klubber: dude woulda been all-state back in the day if his basketball coach had truly appreciated his talent and not cut him after tryouts.

After spending 30+ years in Iowa my perception is that their universities have rabid fans. There are no pro sports over there so the collegiate teams are their fix for athletics. Seems to me that most Iowa State fans are alums, while Iowa fans are a mix of alums and the general population. Interesting to note that while the Iowa men had an average home attendance <10k the women were right at 15k.

I thought we might need a few new terms for this huge game:

Hawkins decide a national title was the right "Coleman-Nation".
He "Dain'd it", meaning spun and jammed it.
He drove in and "Shannon-ized" the defenders.
The perimeter defenders were "Goode-fied".
He "Ty-Rogered" over the opposing rebounders.
Marcus backed him down and "Domask-ulated" him.

Any other suggestions, including for Quincy or Harmon or DGL or Amani? Go Illini!

Money lines are shrinking to +1.
I was in Maui to see the Illini lose to Iowa St (and THT) in the preseason tourney, everyone looking exhausted in the hot, loud Lahaina gym after not quite reaching Gonzaga the night prior in spite of Trent hero-ball. Ayo didn't have his bearings yet, Alan Griffin only played some garbage minutes, and our 7 foot center Adonis could barely walk, so Aaron Jordan was our best rebounder. The 2nd season of the Underwood era was off to a rocky start in the Pacific. Oh how times have changed--coach is 50 lbs lighter, we have skilled players all around, and now facing Iowa St. again in the postseason on the E coast. Time to dominant erupt!!

My guess (based on many stays in Boston, not anything particular about what the NCAA has reserved for this region) would be that they'd be staying in the Prudential Center/Back Bay area. If you have any kind of points program with any hotel chain, they'll have a building there. If you don't, I stay at The Colonnade a lot, which is in that area. They're about three miles from TD Garden. There are closer places, including a CitizenM right (cool if you don't mind a small room) next to TD Garden. There's also the Marriott Longwharf on the Harbor, which is about a mile walk from TD Garden. It's next to Faneuil Hall and the Aquarium, so there's also stuff to do there.

However, I do think the Pru Center area is most likely, in part because the Pru Center itself is a large mall with lots of restaurants where teams could walk to. There's also an observation deck at the top, which seems like a possible between-day activity.

Also, TD Garden is close enough to the North End that you can have a great Italian meal and walk to the arena.
Hope the team's not at the Pru Center. Neighbor Ladies could be a distraction from game prep.

For any Iowa St. fans lurking, leaving aside distasteful jokes about criminal charges (that process will be sorted out, we're confident he's not guilty based on what is known, but that's for the judicial system to determine), there were no "grade issues" with Shannon. He was literally Academic All-Big XII two times. He decided to transfer after his Junior year and initially looked like he was going to Michigan. He did not have enough credits to graduate after three years and would have had to enroll as a regular transfer/not a grad transfer. Michigan's academic clearinghouse would not transfer over all of his credits if he enrolled as an undergrad transfer because they cap the number of credits one can transfer, and so he would have lost a lot of progress on his degree. Where it gets murky is he supposedly asked Texas Tech if he could stay on scholarship over the Summer to complete the credits needed to graduate, at which point he could enroll in Michigan as a grad transfer and avoid any situation with his credits. When Texas Tech refused to keep a player on scholarship that was leaving after the spring semester concluded and Michigan wouldn't budge on their credits, he enrolled in Illinois instead. He since completed his degree and returned as a Grad Student.

Recap - Shannon did not have "grade issues", he was not "asked to take summer school to get his grades up" and he did not have any objections with taking courses. It was just a combination of Shannon not wanting to lose the credits he earned, Michigan being stingy on their transfer credit hours and Texas Tech not keeping him on scholarship after the semester in which the season was played concluded so he could go be a grad transfer elsewhere.

Well done. I'm glad you left "Back Bay" alone, however. All sorts of ways that could go.

Seriously, though, I like the AKA Boston Common (used to be the Kimpton NineZero) on Tremont across from the Old Burial Ground @ north end of the Common. 15 min walk to either TD Center or North End and a quick walk to the Common and Beacon Hill. Nice spot.
