This start time sucks for those of us out west. 9:10 am. Yuck.
Yes, I got into Phoenix last night and sat up in bed a few minutes ago realizing this. I had it in my head we played 110 local. No place is open that early to watch that I have found

I have read all the stats about Loyola and they sound great...........for a MVC team !!!!.....I don't remember what their SOS is, but, cmon, you have to realize that their stats are weighted on lesser competition.......
I won't argue ""IF"" they are a good defensive team as Brad has gushed about their coach, their D, anything Ramblers related.....But I still think they have not played a level of competition that warrants fear that they can stifle the multi-pronged attack of the Illini...

Numerous announcers and analysts have proclaimed about the Illini offense and how to stop us....

who do you double ??
Kofi .................that leaves Trent open or Adam or DMW...
Ayo .................ditto, plus Kofi down low

Slow down the tempo ?
Good luck with that......when we got our legs going Friday against Drexel, it was a trackfest.......thoroughbreds striding down the court overwhelming the D either with An Ayo drive or Kofi slam......

This game will start out slow and deliberate, feeling each other out, but the Illini have too many weapons and strength of belief in themselves to stop the season now.....

On our multiple weapons....that is exactly what their coach Porter Moser gushed about Illini during pregame interview....

I need our team to read all of these predictions of it being a close game and come to play like they did in Ann Arbor. That was supposed to be a close game, too, and we all know how that turned out.

I am admittedly a glass-half-empty kind of person, so these predictions of 9 or 11-point wins make me nervous! That's too close in an anything-can-happen scenario like March Madness!! I wish more of you were predicting a 40-point beatdown so my stomach would settle.

I always make myself hate the upcoming opponent in my head, but crap, Loyola is extremely hard to hate. I like their team, and I really like their coach. And Sister Jean gives them a mystique that lead them to the final 4 three years ago. That being said, our team is different, with a coach that will have us sky high, and the Illini will take care of business today:

IL 74
Loyola 65

Pfffffft!! Whatevs! Screw Loyola! I already have beach front property in hell!

I'll fight Sister Mary Jean right now!!!

It’s weird waking up anxious and nervous about both the game and the underlying covid factor that could pop up at any moment
This. Normally, with a win today, there would be several days of relaxation before the Sweet 16. Now, after the nerves of the game, everyday there's the worry that we're the next VCU.

The good news for Illinois is they've been in this bubble already for over 2 weeks at this point and didn't have to travel. Lowers the level of risk big time.

Only 2 ways we lose 1) COVID 2) freethrows ILL
Oh believe me, there are more ways than that in which we lose. For one, if we open the game by clanging 3's. Miller shoots at will and they miss. Frazier misses his. Then there are the referees. Kofi exhales on his counterpart and the whistle blows. Giorgi continues to miss his close in attempts. Underwood sends in substitutes too early, taking out scorers and putting in passers. Loyola acts like Bohannon and throw up shots and they all go in.

kind of strange that we have the first game of the day and our potential s16 matchup had the last game, tipping off after 9p EST. more rest, scouting for us

It looks like Vegas has settled in at Illinois -7 with a relatively low O/U of 133.5 Which means it could be a relatively low scoring affair. Maybe first team to 70 wins.

Moser is an elite presser. Good to hear a coach not sound like a coach but a fan of the game. Not sure he leaves Loyola for a perennial doormat like Depaul or NU. Should hold out for a power5 with a chance to compete within the conference.
Completely agree- hard guy not to like and obviously a great coach as well. One good team sometimes is a fluke to bring them back to this level is a sign of their program

I wouldn’t be upset at all if he was really successful except when he plays us!

Are we better than them? Probably. But they were #17 in the final AP rankings and #9 on Kenpom. It would be a mistake to underestimate them. This could be an all-out brawl. Plus anything is possible in a single-elimination tournament (as we've already seen in the first round).
I wonder if a #1 seed has ever had to play a top 20 AP, top 10 KP in the second round? Probably not, the committee doesn't do storylines.

Easy to be #9 in KenPom and #17 in the rankings when you’re playing perennial powerhouses like Indiana State, Southern Illinois, and Valpo.

We’re the much better team. We play this game in December & we win by 15+.

But it’s not December. It’s March. We’re smack dab in a single elimination tournament where the best team doesn’t always win.

A third of the first round games were upsets.

Loyola’s gonna’ bring it just like Missouri brings it. We’re gonna’ have to match their intensity from the onset.

And I think we will.

IL 74-68

Looks like the closest they came to playing a team like us was Wisconsin in November. And Wisconsin isn't that much like us. Though I've not seen them, Loyola apparently plays at slow pace and is very efficient on both ends of the floor.

I take nothing for granted in March matchups.

Illinois 84
Loyola/Chicago 62.

This one will not be close. Loyola is the type of team we should destroy. Their center does not have an outside shot, so Kofi can avoid foul trouble. They have no one on their roster who can get to the hole with Ayo, Trent or Miller guarding them. This is a team we should just flat wreck. I think us by 22 (my prediction above) gives them a lot of credit that they find a way to get someone else besides Krutwig going. I watched them vs. GT, and even though GT was short players and not a very good team themselves, Loyola struggled.

I saw nothing to worry me. This will be a beatdown,
