First game back for me at SFC since the renovation and wife bought me courtside tickets.....let's gooooo
Good wife you have, as Yoda might say.

My wife said, do you really want to go to Alaska (sure, we had been talking about it, haven't we) or would you rather get season tickets for Illinois football? (Uh, do you really want to do that? Yes, she does.) Considering that it's a 12 hour drive one way so it means a really long weekend for each game... It's our first season tickets since 1969. It will cost more than the $14 dollars we paid (per each!) for Block I tickets then. Good wife I have.

Enjoy the game. We went to the Illinois-Maryland game in College Park, and I'd like to see revenge. Alas, another obligation will intervene...but I'll be sneaking looks at the score. Win this one for me.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone have any good lunch recommendations? We will be heading into town Friday. Campustown seems ridiculously slim on food choices if you don't want Asian or a chain, and we have been several places downtown before (if we can't decide, we will likely go back to DESTIHL or Seven Saints). I've never been anywhere in Urbana, though I have heard Crane Alley is good.

Only requirement is that I need to be able to get a draft beer of some kind. :)

Easy. Black Dog is the best barbecue I've ever had. They have beer on tap and a bunch more in cans. There is a newer location in Champaign and the original location in Urbana as well. We tried many different restaurants when visiting my siblings on campus, but once I started my freshmen year I could never turn down Black Dog.

Haha, first of all ... LOVE the username of the poster who liked this one! :)

Yeah, we are eating at Nando Milano before the game, so we didn't want to be TOO full from lunch ... but everyone LOVES Black Dog, so I might have to go all-in on food for Friday!

I was going to suggest Papa Del’s until you said you don’t want to be too full. Not where you should go for a light lunch

Anyone else nervous about this game? Maryland is playing very well as of late, and a loss could cause us to go on a skid with our upcoming schedule. We need to win this to stay in Big Ten title contention IMO.

Last time we lost on the 2nd of the month, we won the rest of our games in the month, let’s hope the same thing happens for February!

Guessing Deluxe isn't open any more -- and probably not for years (decades?). Spent plenty of Friday lunches there.

I found that the problem with going to Alaska is that you might never go home. Then a 12 hour drive seems like a small price to see a game.

Sunsinger on Winchester offers a fish sandwich on Fridays that will bring back memories of Deluxe. They have adult beverages there as well.

Hoping sold out crowd will provide huge lift for Illini. Jalen Smith, has been playing his best basketball of late for, MD. Averaging something like 19 and 10 for said amount of games. So, i hope he cools some by, Friday. Cowan, playing well also, got 30 or so i think last game. I think MD is much improved since first meeting.

I am still partial to a Bacon Mega Cheeseburger from Murphy's.

I think we're all nervous. However, it's different from the way we've been nervous the past decade ... it's anxious excitement. I am so pumped to be in SFC Friday night, cheering on a top 20 Illini team that I LOVE watching play basketball against a top 10 opponent that I genuinely think we can beat. Will I be a wreck during the game?? Of course! But this is what it's all about. We matter again, and I'm going to enjoy it!

Papa Del’s has (or at least had last I lived there) deep dish slices available weekdays at lunch, so you could have a slice and a brew and not be too full. Double that and you’ll be bursting though

Who can eat only one slice of Papa Del’s? I’ve never heard of such a thing.

Did IL jump from 29 to 20?

I think it was Brian Barnhart that said Maryland is shooting a lot more 3's than earlier in the season and that includes Jalen Smith who is shooting 41% from deep. After last game, that has to concern you.
