This game is a must win for Michigan to turn their season around and start giving themselves a chance to make the tournament. They are well rested, want revenge for how we embarrassed them on their home court last year, and we will get their very best effort. If we play to our potential, we should handle them, but a bad shooting night could result in a loss. I'm sure our staff and senior leadership will have the Illini ready to compete hard.
We didn't embarrass them; we embarrassed the announcer that said they were the best in the country.

I had a thought after someone on here mentioned a rumor that UM COULD have played Purdue.

And while this thought is laced with cynicism/conspiracy, I don’t put it past Michigan to pull it off.

Is there a way that UM could tell the B1G “we can’t play due to COVID tests” but not actually provide the players/coaches that are out due to health/privacy issues? If the B1G doesn’t require medical documentation of the individual tests, I’m very much convinced UM saw how the season was going and took an unregulated tactical pause.

Just like in the midst of a game, when your team is struggling and the other team is on a run, you take a timeout to get your team right.

If UM comes out tonight at full strength and running a different/improved offense with the cohesiveness of a team practicing for a week unencumbered by league games/travel, then I will 100% believe my own conspiracy theory.

They are trying to pick a winnable game to come back and at Illinois (with the rivalry that’s been created) is the best option.

I’ll take my tinfoil hat off now…though I don’t think I’m completely wrong. 😳
Your theory is not completely crackpot, although I don't think @ Illinois in a rivalry game is exactly a "soft spot" i'd pick to come back and try out some new stuff. But changing things during a pause out of the sight of scouts, that is very possible. We could see some new looks we are unprepared for

MGoBlog finally posted a men's basketball item after nearly three weeks. Preview of Illinois game. More fear (grounded in reality) than snark. They expect the Illini to win:

"Anyway, for the first time in a long time Michigan basketball enters a game and I'm expecting them to get blasted."

Please note rankings used: KenPom ;) (Sorry)

This graphic they used is pretty darn cool…, but they’re going to learn that Kofi isn’t the only “super defender” on this team.

There are only two teams in college sports that I will always know the outcome I’m rooting for.
1. I will always be rooting for Illini victory (duh)
2. I will always be rooting for a Michigan loss

So today is one of those very rare days where you know it’s 2 for 2, or 0 for 2.

P.S. I don’t know what to do if we ever need a Michigan win to seal a conference title
P.S. 2: Mizzou is close, but I could care less about their football team

I L L!

Watched Howard's preview. He dodges questions more than he answers anything. Not that I blame him with the team situation as it is. Talked about Curbelo as much as other players o_O

BU normalized to Fran is 1.4.

I wonder what BU would score compared with Jud Heathcote or Gene Keady? Those are my benchmarks for perpetually unhappy/enraged/constipated coaches.

Then we could do a Crean index based on Google images that radiate predatory creepiness.

I’m showing my age a bit, but this was one of the all time classics.
Judd Heathcoate, head coach of MSU getting irate and the results were remembered for a long, long time.

He probably didn't scout us and isn't prepared. Too busy trying to fix his own dumpster fire of a team.

Having, for 70 years, learned and practiced to always respect your opponent, I cannot understand why so many are constantly involved in "I hate him...or I hate them". That is simply not OK...for anyone. Our opponents are not criminal, just trying to do the best they can at their sport while ultimately becoming good enough to win, just like you. After all, do we not get the most satisfaction when gaining a victory over a team we think is very difficult, even surprising, to beat?

So take my advice, fellow Illini fans (if you have read this far). Respect your opponent...and it is OK to be indifferent to their success or lack thereof.

But, one last piece of advice. It is also OK, almost demanded by God, to hate Michigan and their athletic dept. They were one of, if not the first, NCAA program to violate the rules they pledged to uphold and have continued doing so, consistently, for the next 120 years or so. They were the poster child for low life cowards when they slunk away in silence and let the Illini stand tall and document the Illini "slush fund"...something Michigan had being doing under the table for more than a decade. They did not stand tall in defense of their fellow conference members, .and say "wait a second, we have been doing that for years and hardly in as admirable way as the Illini programs. We don't believe they should be punished for improving on the idea by trying to help their athletes only in times of family emergencies". Nothing but embarrassing silence from the "Michigan Men". Hypocrisy and undeserved self-aggrandizement are the norm for "Michigan Men". Yes, it is OK to say you hate Michigan...they really are SCum.;):chief::illinois:

I don't know. I do appreciate the visceral need to root against Michigan at every level. However, last night I watched Indiana v Iowa. I found myself rooting for both to lose, preferably in an embarrassing way. There are just too many B1G teams I dislike with the same intensity I dislike Michigan.

Duffy Daugherty at Michigan State and Forrest Evashevsky at Iowa were the main culprits in screwing Illinois during the "Slush Fund" scandal. They were both just off probation and could see that Pete Elliott was building a competitive program in Champaign. I was there during those years.
