Anyone know why Mich has been so bad this year? I thought they were loaded with 5-star recruits.

Always appreciate the effort you put into your analysis.
Thanks, BRucks! My first year being old enough to follow Illini basketball and remember it was 2001, and I was in seventh grade during our 2005 run. I grew up seeing what Illini basketball could be and not knowing anything else, so it's what I expected from us. After a dismal stretch until 2019-20, I can confidently say it's a pleasure to be doing such analysis again. :)

When is the last time we have been favored over Michigan by 8.5 points in any sport?
Basketball during the Tommy Ammaker nadir of Michigan hoops.

The worst Big Ten basketball game I've ever watched was Michigan (Ammaker) v. Purdue (Painter's first year, Keady having left the cupboard bare upon retirement) at Mackey. Maybe 2005? Can't recall. Just awful. I mean, almost N'western-Illinois 0-0 tie 1978 football awful. Two teams literally bending over backward to out-beclown each other.

I fully suspect that Howard is throwing up a smoke screen with this talk of 7 players. I expect them all to be available.
It's obvious. He even made a reference to "another coach is now available" so everyone thinking this meant they literally have 7+1 available simply isn't listening. He was simply saying "the league says you need 7+1 and we have 7+1 and I'm not giving away any more than that."

Did you see us play PSU a few years later? Not even close. The PSU game was barely even basketball.

We are of the same vintage Nightman. I hope all this year's seventh graders and seventh graders for years to come have the same fond memories that we were fortunate to have.

Rankings, rankings, rankings....THEY MEAN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, WHATSOEVER!

Play ball, win games, get better every game, and in the end, OUR SEED, will be what matters!
You must be a very old school coach to believe what you are saying. Your seed is determined, at least in part by your rankings. It’s been said on this site multiple times, but being ranked also aids recruiting and national exposure. Likely helps with NIL too. Sorry you don’t like it but rankings matter.

I know I’m getting ahead of myself and it won’t be easy, but…. If we beat Michigan and Purdue at home. Then go on the road and beat Maryland to go 8-0 in the BIG. We are a top 10 team, right?
No. Beating Purdue would have been the only legitimately good team that we've beaten all year. It would be our only top 25 win. Long way to go before we sniff the the top 10.

C'mon Loyalty, lighten up! Juwan had a great presser. A clever smoke screen on who's playing, asked a reporter about his dog at the end, and mispronounced ONLY 3 Illini player's names!!!

Let's crush these fools.
How prepared could Juwan possibly be if he can’t even pronounce Kofi’s name. Seriously, after what he did to Michigan last year? He called him Coffee!!??

On a different note, it was interesting hearing Juwan’s presser regarding Friday's matchup.
When asked about the importance of making up this years two missed games due to covid:
“….we ARE going to plays those games….ADs will get together and we are going to figure it out like how we did last year…”

Huh???
So apparently they made up those games last year and earned their fake championship?
Or will they will duck games again this year and try to manipulate standings?
It would be good to leave no doubt who's number 1
