"So Michigan having an eckel rate of 26.6% means the offense is getting a first down inside the opponents 40-yard line on only 26.6% of drives. That’s near the bottom of the FBS.

Inversely, Illinois’ defense lets opponents get a first down inside Illinois’ 40-yard line on 53.8% of drives. Which is near the bottom of all FBS football teams.

So essentially Eckel Rate is telling is Michigan can’t sustain drives while Illinois can’t stop drives. So what’s going to happen on Saturday?"

The stoppable force vs. the moveable object.

Need our offense to set the tone. Luke is as confident as ever... get some points on the board and force Michigan to keep up. I think that would get our defense playing more loose and confident. Might even cause Michigan to make some mistakes and we could open it up.

Michigan is not that good. If things click for us and the crowd is into it I could see this being a 31-13 type game.

My good omen for the week:

I play Ultimate Golf on my phone. Just finished a 9-hole tournament in which someone with GoBlue in his name was running neck and neck with me through 6 holes. I went minus 2 over last 3 holes while he/she played even golf. I finished 3rd while GoBlue finished 33rd. That has to mean close on Saturday for much of game with Illini pulling ahead late right?

maybe Pru could send him a bikini pic to smooth things over

Sounds more like Michigan wins by 2 on a late safety

Husker fan here, checking in.

Glad you guys pulled it out vs Purdue and kept your good season alive! :)

I for one will be rooting quite strongly for you against the cheaters to the north. You've got 2 back to back tough games, but obviously @Oregon will probably the toughest one of the season.

But first....down with Michigan!

We had a super sloppy win against Rutgers but it didn't help we had 40+ MPH winds. Our defense finally showed up a bit more like we expected (they weren't bad all year, but we expected better).

I know you guys have Rutgers in Nov. While I don't think they're a bad team they're also not a great team. They do have a really good RB though (Monangai) who averages well over 100 a game. He started out gashing us pretty good in the first quarter (I think like 70 yards on 10 carries-ish) but then we shut him down the rest of the game.

Their offensive line was just ok and we got to Kaliakmanis (transfer QB from Minnesota) and he wasn't super impressive. Definitely possible to shut that offense down.

Their defense was decent, but Raiola had a terrible game with the wind. 2-9 in the 2nd half IIRC. I think if we played them under normal conditions we'd fare much butter.

As for Nebraska...as I said before you played us...our kicking game is atrocious and somehow it's gotten worse.

I think we matchup pretty well against Indiana but their offense seems pretty good (though they haven't played even a decent defense yet), so that will be interesting to see. We come in as 7pt dogs in Bloomington for the Big Noon kickoff. Should be fun, hopefully we can pull it off and get back in the top 25 (before we play @tOSU and hope to keep it close haha).

GOOD LUCK THIS WEEKEND!

Indiana flipped a WR commit from us this summer. Seeing as we don't play them this year, it'd be a mighty nice consolation if y'all could thump them on Saturday 🫡

How about if we talk about how Altmyer will do against Michigan. The wolverines lost a lot, and are obviously not close to what they were last year, but one thing they still have are some pretty athletic big guys up front. Can illini o line block them? If they get beat on pass pro, no matter how good Luke is it’ll be a long day, especially so if they can’t get the run going either. That’s my big concern for this week. Keeping with the kittner comparisons, the sugar bowl vs lsu, lsu was just way more physical and handled the illini. Nothing Kurt could do on his own.

Illini defense vs Michigan offense is a crap shoot. I have no idea what’ll happen. If 2nd half of Purdue shows up, Michigan will light it up no matter who is playing qb. It’ll be the game of the year for them. If it’s the d from first 5 1/2 weeks, they should be at least ok, and ok should be enough.

I think overall they’ll have their stuff together enough to play well. Still predicting an illini victory !

Never in my life have I ever heard any Illinois football fan even suggest that we might look past Michigan to the following game. This is a first.
As a point of reference - we have beaten them six times since Ray Elliot left after the 1959 season.

we've been jobbed outta more than a few, that only happened that way because the REFEREEES effed us, but yea, we've basically been owned by them as long as I've been alive (63 years )

I started going to Illini games in the 60's. Only 6X in my lifetime have we beaten Michigan. I thought we had them in 2022 but spygate was probably the margin of victory.

How would you like to tackle that beast coming over the line of scrimmage 7 yards down after a Y stick completion? That would be like tackling a big brown bear.
