Curious what happened with Tre. Had some great games where he let the game come to him and scored 20 points quietly by cutting and running the floor. Seems like those scoring outbursts got to his head and tried doing a bit too much on the floor before getting "sick." Going to be interesting to see if/when he gets in the game now that he's "healthy."

I'm going long on Tre White futures.

My guess is that Brad is settling in a on rotation that he's liking since the Minnesota game and we could be seeing that moving forward. Since having Morez stay pat at the 4 and moving Ben to the 3 plus Will still able to get his 30 minutes coming off the bench we have seen some good things out of this bigger lineup. Others like Mike Latulip have mentioned we are starting to see the rotation getting tightened.

This is a strange thing to say about a guy who's 6th in minutes but 4th in rebounds/game and has 3 20 point games (all vs B1G opponents).
Also, as I pointed out a couple days ago - with Tre White we are the 20th ranked defense according to Torvik and without him we are the 200th ranked defense. *Causation vs correlation disclaimer here

I think he's an excellent glue guy / x factor type player. I'm assuming, he's not happy with that role.

Agreed. To reach our ceiling, we need Tre to rebound, slash, and be our best wing defender.

If this is all to say that Tre White is out the door and won't be playing for us for the rest of the season, I won't miss him that much. He had some great moments. But I can think of at least six guys that are more important to the success of the team the rest of the season, and that's not even including Humrichous who at times can be an absolute game changer. Riley has surpassed White in that role at this point. It would be nice to have depth in that role, but if not, sorry bro I won't miss you.

It would appear that such a role is not a popular one in the NIL era.

The thing that is the biggest bummer about Tre is that he showed for about a month that he is definitely capable of being a key contributor on the best version of this team. Look at what he did in the Wisconsin, Mizzou, Oregon and Washington games.

Now the illness/doghouse or shortening of the rotation seems to have him on the outside looking in.

I don't know what happened for Tre to get into the doghouse, talk about it has been very vague. Maybe he deserves to stay in there.

But honestly I would rather see him getting some minutes than completely buried on the bench. He offers something different to the lineup at his size and strength.

Look at Dain last season. Dain played more than 11 minutes in just four out of 20 Big Ten games, but where would we have been without him in the Big Ten Tournament or NCAA tournament without him?

what actually happened with Tre though? He was so good for a stretch. Never really felt like he was hurting the team.

Not 0440 but I'll take a stab for funsies.

Back:
Tomi
Kylan
Jake

Gone:
KJ
Will
Tre
Carey
Ty
Ben

We Shall See:
Morez
DGL
Jakstys

Could see a DGL for Ben switch here too, but that's what I'm saying as of Friday, February 14 2025.
I know that Morez is a TA guy and maybe their bond is too strong to be able to hold onto him, but I would hope Rez can see how much more Brad trusts him as the season has gone along.

Plus I hope he recognizes the advantages of playing alongside another big like Tomi who does not need to play in the paint and can help set him up as an elite passer.

I preface by saying I understand the landscape is completely different and turnover is inevitable…

My guess is we have some of the most roster turnover among teams in power conferences. Brad has done an unbelievable job in spite of that and I am a believer in what he can do at Illinois.

I have to wonder if he views the turnover as a beneficial strategy or if he would prefer to retain some bit of continuity year to year and just hasn’t been able to due to unforeseen circumstances. Does there come a time when it is unsustainable and even detrimental to the potential of our program?
