Loyalty has talked about our defensive problems so much in this thread, that means its a guarantee we will play our best defensive game of the year (without any zone).

Illinois 79
MSU 63

We jump on them early and go into the half up 16, behind the most energetic home crowd of the year. They make a fake comeback and cut it to 6 with about 8 min left, before we close the door on them.

Very interesting 75% roster turnover every year. Could be the new norm. Starting QB at my sons HS just transferred to league rival Mater Dei (#1 HS school football in country). Hard to blame him- I am sure he wants a scholly to USC / Bama / Oregon next year. Good thing the JV/Backup who we thought would transfer is very good. Next man up. You have to be able to develop players in football. Not sure what the NCAA basketball model will be in future.

It seems to me that changing programs EVERY year would, at some point, become detrimental to a player's long term development. If Tre transfers again, by my count it would be to his ninth school in eight years(?!). Little Elm (TX) --> Washington (WI) --> Cornerstone Christian (TX)-->Ribet Acad (CA) --> Prolific Prep (CA) --> USC --> Louisville --> Illinois --> ??? (I may be wrong about this; tough to track all the movement)

Gotta get Morez back.

Will's decision will be heavily informed by the NBA Undergraduate Advisory pre-draft evaluation process.

If Brad can get 5 of the 9 rotation guys back, we should be in good shape. Fingers crossed.

Last year my wife got me a Christmas present which was two tickets to see the boys play. The game was against Rutgers in TJs first game back. That was special.
This morning when we exchanged Valentine's gifts she got tickets to tomorrow’s game for us to celebrate TJ and see his jersey raised. Gonna bring some STL kinda crazy to SFC better known as Assembly Hall tomorrow. Totally stoked!!!
Yep, she’s a keeper.
Send TJ an invite if you ever renew your vows 🫡

Not sure where else to post this. My son very recently took a job in Anchorage, AK. He's an Illini fan and looking for a place to catch a game and make friends. Are there any friendly places to catch a game in Anchorage?

I lived there for a few years from 2004-2007, but watched those golden Illini years on cable.
Yeah, it is called the Great Alaskan Bush Company, but I am not sure they have a TV. ;)

Seriously, I'm 66, have a wife and three kids still in school and living at home, love to fish and hunt, and have several mining claims to keep me busy. And considering most weekend games happen in the morning my time (I know that's not much of an excuse), and weekday games start while I am still at work (probably not much of an excuse either), I really don't ever watch a game at a drinking establishment. The Peanut Farm and maybe the Matanuska Brewing Company near corner of Northern Lights Boulevard and C Street are probably two of the major sports bars in town.

Another place he might check out....Midnight Sun Brewery. GREAT beer! Not sure how many screens they have, but when I lived in Anchorage, I used to hang out there periodically. They've expanded since I left so I imagine they have more screens now. If your son is into IPAs, tell him to try the XXX Black Double IPA, if they have it on tap.

I said it once and I’ll say it again. This year’s team needs Tre to be able to contribute for us to make a deep run. We aren’t a final four team with Jake Davis as our 6th/7th man. No disrespect

And I agree with the “worry about next year after April”….but I don’t think returning 1-2 players again will work out. You have to give players a chance.

Idk what Tre did to burn his bridge, maybe he deserves it, but worry about here and now first

I’ll get out ahead of this before people get confused lol. 7 man rotation with Jake and Dra being them 7th
Shortening at this time of year makes sense. I think the sub patterns could be tweaked for rest purposes but i'm not convinced that fatigue played a huge part in the UCLA three point shooting heroics

Wow don't love that Morez is not on the back list. Do we have a percentage of where he is leaning right now?

Not 0440 but I'll take a stab for funsies.

Back:
Tomi
Kylan
Jake

Gone:
KJ
Will
Tre
Carey
Ty
Ben

We Shall See:
Morez
DGL
Jakstys

Could see a DGL for Ben switch here too, but that's what I'm saying as of Friday, February 14 2025.
Put Morez in the back portion and Ben/Will in we shall see and I agree. The odds of Will staying have for sure decreased but it isn't a done deal yet, they are still very open to coming back if there's not a top 20-25ish guarantee

Who knows. Worried about next year after April.
I understand that but I'm trying to gage if Tre is going to be a contributor down the stretch this year.
I have said this before but for us to make a run we can use an engaged Tre White.
Anyway, respect the opinion and what you share.

This was the post I needed to see!

Morez had to be slightly humbled when Tomi was out. WRT fouls and guarding some true 5 men.
He looks really comfortable with a great passing, stretch 5 like Tomi in the lineup. Really opens the paint and let's him dominate the opposing 4.

Follow up: I am floored by what Jake has been this year and that he’s seen as a “key” piece moving forward. Brad LOVES him. Crazy he’s as much of a guarantee to be back next year, which I wouldn’t have said before this season.

Why is this his attitude towards Davis when it’s seems like he does everything possible to play DGL and Morez as little as possible? Not meant as disrespect to Davis just curious.

And this is actually a situation where I agree with Underwood. Jake is the epitome of a glue guy. He reminds me of one of those guys for MSU where you're like "who is this random dude starting for MSU"-see Fidler this year. But they just do all the right things, hustle, keep the ball moving, play hard, rebounds, can shoot it... I'm possibly in the club of seeing Davis as a key part of our team next year.

Also, what the heck is up with White? When he finally seemed to get off of his "get mine" early in the season, it felt like he finally bought into playing hard, rebounding, getting out the fastbreak, was aggressive attacking the hoop, played solid d. What changed?
