Just found this guy on youtube. He picks 6 games each Saturday and dives into the advanced statistics of each one. This week our game is one of his 6, and he is very intrigued by the matchup. Jump to 29:03 to listen to our game preview, but I recommend listening to the whole thing if you're a college football fan. It's good stuff.
The most interesting thing I got out of it:
Minnesota's bread & butter has been their ability to sustain drives, but they don't have many explosive plays. So that makes me think...
A) Our defense is in for a long day. Our offense will have trouble moving the ball without Devito, and their offense will slowly and methodically wear down our D until we break.
B) They have been struggling to find explosive plays teams against bad teams. Now they face a real defense and we will expose them with another dominating performance because they won't be able to consistently convert those 3rd downs like they have been.
He also talks about how bad our offense is, but I really think with Devito we could have moved the ball a little better against the elite Iowa D and probably punched in a couple TD's in the 2nd half. Our offensive numbers would've been looking much better. Hopefully Devito can go and prove my theory right against another good D.
