Gotta have this one. I think the guys look at film from today (excluding the first quarter) and see a lot of things they did well. Lovie will coach 'em up!

Grey Ghosts get the win on homecoming. Keep the faith boys - Lovie will get it done.

If we go 2-10, fighting for 60 every game, I will be pleased with the direction of the program. I say that because I really feel we will get more talent, and the coaching staff will do the rest.

Having said that, if we get a couple of more wins this season, I will be VERY pleased!

Baby steps...so say Bob and Dr. Leo Marvin.

I'll reserve making a prediction until I hear who's playing QB. Now that I've seen all three guys start, I'm confident the coaches have had it right all along. Best chance to win = Lunt. Crouch is 2nd best. George is very, very green.

With that said, I don't mind having George start. Still want to see if he can be "The Guy" 2017-2019 (until we recruit our Deshaun Watson).

I'm going with a maturing team winning Homecoming.

I missed it but what are the injuries to Lunt and Crouch and when are they expected to return? Any update on Dudek?

This looks like one of the games remaining on the schedule that is potentially winnable, but Illinois has to play mistake-free and Minnesota will probably need to play poorly. Don't see a win coming if George is starting.

Will be my first game in a couple of years, and first time coming back for homecoming. Can't wait to see the new pre-game festivities in person!

Agree that this is winnable (so is next week, imo) even with some mistakes and with Jeff George at QB. I thought he looked pretty servicable last week given the situation. This week and next week come down to this: play with the level of effort we saw against Michigan or Nebraska and we can win. Play like we did against Purdue (or the defensive effort against Rutgers) and we will not win.

We can win this game if and only if we don't beat ourselves with stupid penalties and dumb plays (unless of course they pull a Rutgers and do an even better job of beating themselves than we do!).

We are going to win this one and NW so that we will definitely be looking back at WMU and Purdue and playing "if only" with bowl eligibility.

Lovie & staff media availability

https://twitter.com/JWernerScout

Lovie: Defensively gap control was an issue.

Lovie: We lost to a good football team, but it's about moving on.

Lovie: No major injuries to report.

Asked Lovie if he has a clear idea of which QBs will be available: "Yes, we do."

Lovie: Let's save some time. I'm not going to talk on injuries.

Lovie: JG3 had a typical first game. That's a tough environment to have your first start. He's a confident guy.

Lovie: As an offense, it's just about doing your job. Doesn't matter who the guy is behind for the OL, RB.

Lovie: It's easier when you have the same group going together, but that's not normally how life goes

Lovie: Traditionally, you expect big improvement for QB from first game to second game.

Lovie: Want consistent play out of Gave Megginson. We've seen enough to see exactly who our players are.

Lovie: If a guy doesn't start, that means we felt like we have a better option.

Lovie: Tre first-half suspension hurts. Penalty wasn't in dispute. Can't make those. They hurt you.

Lovie: We have a couple options at WLB that we'll look at this week for the first half to replace Watson.

Lovie: What Minnesota runs, they run well. They have two excellent TBs but mix in some read-option which makes them multiple.

Lovie: Before you can really paly good, fast football, you have to know what you're doing. Have to have discipline.

Lovie: It's discipline of trusting your teammates and you doing your job.

Lovie: Phillips and Smoot are good players are going to have long NFL careers. We all need to do more, especially our good players

Lovie: Young players are improving, but we need to make more improvements. There are young players with bright futures ahead of them

Lovie: Stanley Green made two big hits. He has potential.

Lovie: When you're young, it's about consistent play. Every down.

Lovie: As a football team, we haven't progressed enough.

Lovie: We are taking steps, but we aren't there yet. We need practice this week.

Talking with Hardy Nickerson, sounds like true freshman Jake Hansen will get an opportunity to play in Tre Watson's 1st-half absence #illini

WMU is the 2nd toughest game on this schedule behind the one we just played.

This isn't so much a message board as an anti-MAC cult sometimes, I swear.
Yep. Doesn't matter if we played WMU 10 more times this season. They'd whip us every time. They are a great team and we are not.

What happened to Desmond Cain? I haven't seen much of him. Seemed to be someone who could help fill the gap at WR.
