I think Minny takes this one at SFC. I think we have checked out for the year. Another game closer to the end....

Please prove me wrong.

I actually do not think that we have checked out.
I don't think we are very good, but I don't think we've stopped competing.
In fact, I consider that to be one of the few bright spots.

I predict we win by 6-8 points.

I predict those who still have JG's back will point to the progress that was shown.

I predict those who want JG gone will say it should have never been that close.

I predict JG will be back for next year and will control his own fate with his most talented roster.

I pray for a drastic turnaround in 2016-17!

I believe you are making an accurate prediction on all points.

They had a brutal start to the season but they've improved. Us...well, not so much.

I actually think we are showing some signs of improvement, but we clearly can not play with 6 guys. And when we bring in #7 or #8, well, the whole thing just instantly collapses. But I do think we've shown improvement. Not more improvement than others, but improvement.

We really have. Especially defensively, but we run out of gas in the second half of games. We dont have the depth with our injuries. Just wait until next year. People are going to freak at how much better we will be.

I agree that we're running out of gas, but I also think we're getting out-maneuvered in the locker room at half time. Indiana made incredible adjustments at the half last night, and Illinois....didn't.

You could watch the Oscars and listen to the radio broadcast. I stopped watching before the conference season started. Instead, I put the ear phones on and follow Dan's link to the radio. Barnhart and Hester do a good job imo.

Whenever they're remotely close to being synced, I mute the TV and just play Barnhart & Hester.

I agree that we're running out of gas, but I also think we're getting out-maneuvered in the locker room at half time. Indiana made incredible adjustments at the half last night, and Illinois....didn't.

The biggest adjustment that Indiana made after halftime was that they started making their 3's, including a few that were 2-3 feet beyond the arc. They shot 10-17 in the second half.

Once the 3 pointers started to fall for IU, you could see the Illini players shoulders sag and frustration start to set it. The Illini then commenced to try to make up 10 points at once, played some hero ball and all hell broke loose.

That is where strong leaders, both on and off the court is needed. I don't think Hill is a true leader, he's too quiet and laid back. Abrams was much better at leading, but unfortunately he's injured.

Groce tried to use his timeouts to stem the tide, but with Yogi making pretty much every shot he threw up, it was too little too late.

I'm really interested in seeing what happens with this team next year. Assuming that Abrams is back and with TJL, we should have better PG play and better on the court leadership, but will that be enough to get us over the hump.

We have lots of parts to make a good team, but I agree that we lack the glue. That's why we become... well, we become unglued so easily. Khalid Lewis sincerely tries to hold it together out there, but I sometimes get the feeling that he has trouble getting his teammates to buy in. I've watched him motion people on the floor only for them to sit back and stay still.

I'm going to the game. I hope it's going to be a strong senior finish.

Do we know if it's just going to be Khalid Lewis or will Tracy and/or Thorne be honored on Sunday as well?

Im guessing not Tracy based on the near certainty he will be back next year.

Wins have been so hard to come by, I just want another one. I don't care how. I think I despise Little Richard (props to Newman) more than any coach.

Well then you should LOVE Little Richard! Roy Williams, hands down.

You know, as I was typing that, I was thinking about what my list was for most hated coach. Sooooo many to choose from. Roy Williams would definitely be at the top of my list, and I don't think it's that close to be honest.

Jordan Murphy of Minnesota was named B1G Freshman of the week for last week. I think last time an Illini won Frosh of the week was KN.
However, before season is over I look for JCL to win one of the remaining weeks.

John Groce teleconference

https://twitter.com/JWernerScout

Groce: Short prep with 2 days between games. That can be a good thing for us. Anxious to get back out there.

Groce: Played OK in first half, score might have said we played well. Played better in Madison.

Groce: In the 2nd half, we let them get going inside early. Opened up some things. Then Ferrell was just terrific.

Groce: We missed some shots we made in 1H. Offensive execution pretty good at times. We had some sloppy TOs. Must be tougher w/ ball

Groce: Short but physical and spirited practice yesterday. You saw some guys really wanted to step up and respond from film session

Groce: Minnesota on 2-game win streak. They seem to have simplified things. Morris off the team. Mason, Murphy, King make plays.

Groce: We're playing a different team than we played in Game 1 from confidence and execution standpoint.

Groce: Seniors LaTulip, Lewis and Mike Thorne will all be honored tomorrow.

Groce: Mav and Finke both played well at Minnesota. We need everybody, but we need everybody to play role at little higher level.

Groce: Need everybody at times to be a good leader and a good follower. My expectation for upperclassman is different though.

Groce: The good teams have players who coach each other up. It's February. Our guys are learning to do that better.

Groce: We've had a program that to this point of season, the older guys have had steering wheel.
