Regarding teams scoring more against us than other teams, it is also important to consider the pace at which we tend to play. We lead the B1G in FG attempts per game. Playing fast gives the opposing team more chances to score too.
The defense has been mediocre and inconsistent, which is why we are middle of the pack in FG% against, but the point totals aren't simply a product of bad defense. It's also a product of aggressive offense.

It's Dayton, my friend. They could be storing anything at Wright Pat and no one would be the wiser.
My, oh my . . . sounds like an elitist Buckeye from Columbus! I spent from September 1985 until September 1992 there, living in Beavercreek. A nice place to raise a family, altho it was a little to close to both Kentucky and Indinia.

Last thing I'll say and then I'll let it go...for now.

I don't share these stats to be a doomsayer. I pull data when I want to test or validate what I see/feel/think about the team. That way, when I share opinions here and elsewhere, they're at least somewhat informed and hopefully you guys find it interesting too. Just want to be clear that I'm not trying to slice the data to make us look bad. I thought to myself that we've looked abnormally bad on defense the last couple months so I did some research to see if that really is the case.

Using Torvik, and looking only at data from January and February to make it more apples to apples for you, the last two months have been the third worst Jan-Feb stretch of defense since at least 2008.

AdjD rankings from Jan 1 - Feb 29
2018: 176
2016: 110
2024: 109

You don't have to believe the numbers. Really, these numbers don't even matter. What matters is what we do from here onward. But if you're like me and you've found yourself thinking that you can't remember being this bad defensively in conference play, well it's because you blocked 2018 out of your memory but after that, you'd basically be right.

Edit: @fuggles This better?
Personally I could care less about what are adjd efficiency is over that period in 2024 given we lost our best defender for a significant portion.

It was indeed a nice place back then, before AT&T bought NCR and shut it down. Alas, it has been hammered in the interim. The AF museum is a gem, and there's a beautiful Sikh temple nearby. Otherwise, beyond the U of D it has become a bit rough.

And if you ever call me a "Buckeye" again, I will take you down, Greg. I will take you down to Chinatown. ;)

Did anybody ever listen to the radio broadcast of Loyola basketball with Red Rush on the call? They were sponsored by Ganela bread. It's Ganela. It's swella, fella.
Sure did. I remember Red doing Depaul games in the '70s. "Ganella, it's swella, fella"! What a great and catchy phrase.

Brad should tell the team we hold them under 70 or else.

Then drag the treadmill into AHSFC and set it off the end of the bench where players can see it as they walk back to the bench after being pulled.

Defense, rebounding and loose balls is 95% effort. Fatigue can also effect results.

Brad - need to get Coleman, Marcus, TSJ more rest. He has been playing them close to 40 minutes per game.

Players - No resting on defense. No jogging back on opponents fast break. Need to dive for every loose ball. Contest every shot. Block out every play. Crash the offensive board. We we are playing 5 out it is common that unless Luke or Ty is in the game nobody crashes the offensive boards.

Bench can provide energy and defense. If I was DGL I would be eveready bunny going hyper speed on defense.

This is team is a lot of fun but they look tired at times. Defensive effort at end of game is poor.

I’d love to never see any of those names play more than 35 mins. May not seem like a huge change, but that few extra minutes of rest can really come in handy. I think this bench is talented enough to provide that kind of relief.

I think (hope) Brad is finally resolved to not just play guys because they have more talent. Like you said, you gotta provide effort and defense too.

Agree. I think part of both the defensive and late game struggles has been fatigue. If you know you’re going to play 38 minutes or more, you are either consciously or unconsciously going to try to conserve energy somewhere, probably on defense.

If Nico can take primary ball handling duties off of Marcus’s plate for 5-10 minutes that would be huge too.

It's absurd to make Illini 11.5 point favorites. Minnesota is 8-1 when scoring 80 points. Illini have given up 80+ in 5 of last 6. I predict it goes down to wire with Illini pulling it out because Minny misses free thrwos at end.

Absolutely, no reason to exhaust starters seeking Big 10 Tournament championship.

Marcus looks the most tired trying to break the press and post up last 5 minutes of game. His turnovers come when he is exhausted.

No reason we can't drop into zone for 3 minutes if you want to play Nico and DGL.

I am excited about using Amani to rest Coleman. As much as I like Dain - he just doesn't seem to show the energy level on defense or rebounding.

Quincy is an enigma. Since Terrance has come back he does not seem the same. Of course it could be related to having a newborn and being completely sleep deprived.
