Not sure I like this matchup right now. Nebraska traps the post and forces teams to shoot 3s (34 of our 70 shots in our last matchup were 3s). So they will likely take away our best half court options all season (Domask) and last game (Dain). And we haven’t been shooting the 3 well lately. In fact we’ve been passing up open looks. Need Coleman and Quincy to be ready to pull the trigger.
Somebody give CoHawk a wake up call BEFORE the game instead of waiting until 37 minutes into the game.

The last time these two teams met it was in early February where Nebraska nearly pulled the upset on the road, but it was Illinois hanging on in overtime 87-84. The Huskers went on an 11-1 run in the final three minutes of play to force the extra period and were led by Tominaga with his career-high 31 points.

The point of concern for Nebraska for lack of a better term is if they have “shot all of their bullets” last night against the Hoosiers. Aside from the 14 threes, Nebraska shot 50% from the field and 79% from the line. Odds are the Huskers won’t shoot the rock like that again, but that is also a blessing for Fred Hoiberg’s crew.

The Big Red has been so hard to scheme for because it is so difficult to guess who is going to have a big night. Yes, you have your usual suspects in Tominaga and Williams offensively, but one night it could be Reink Mast with a 20-point double-double, Juwan Gary could hit four threes, C.J. Wilcher could turn it on from outside in a matter of seconds, so that leaves the opponent guessing who it’s going to be for Fred Hoiberg.

Overall, it should be a tight contest from start to finish with so much on the line, Nebraska looking to make their first Big Ten Title appearance ever on the hardwood and Illinois feels as if they have some unfinished business in the conference championship department.

Nebraska’s last 8 games:

7-1 (7th in Torvik over that span. Purdue is 10th in the same timeframe)

79-59 over Michigan
68-49 over Penn St
85-70 over @Indiana
73-55 over Minnesota
69-78 loss @Ohio St
67-56 over Rutgers
85-70 over @Michigan
93-66 over Indiana

Average margin of victory: 14.5

This won’t be easy. But I believe in our guys.
Wins are great for confidence. But their opponents quality hasn’t been there. I much prefer them to OSU

I sure hope it’s our guys doing the modified home alone after we shoot 50% from 3 and not Tominaga.

Nebraska lost to the same team Illinois defeated last night. It is time to bring them back to reality.

My (sober) thoughts are that we have a game as tight as the one yesterday. Hopefully, we have the same result.

Just hope the big ten doesn't have an agenda. All the talk is of Hoiberg, Tomenaka. Just one time I would like to see a game called the same at both ends. Question,,,early in the season guys driving to the hoop looked like a fullback, tuck the ball lower your head and charge on. At seasons end that is once again a foul. Saw more charging calls yesterday than all season,,,what gives?

Hopefully Domask will play better tomorrow
Not too worried about Domask. OSU threw a lot at him and it’s a chance for him to learn. Brad needs to learn how to adjust to that situation, too. I think he flipped the right switch yesterday (Dain) but it was almost too late. The most important thing IMO is to rest CH. A chance to start Dain.

Pre-Game Prediction: The Refs will be against us as usual and even though Steven Bardo is not announcing, he will still be anti-Illini. Good, now no-one needs to Post in the Game Thread as I just covered it all.

Was Indiana that bad or Neb that good. Nb went on a 17-0 run and the game was over. Go Illini

I appreciate what Nebraska is doing tonight because it's hopefully reinforcing that the Huskers are not gonna get the road treatment in Minneapolis. That's a relatively easy drive from here. Our folks need to be loud early and often.
We beat Nebraska and I don't think there's any way we lose the title game.
Was surprised and impressed by the Husker turnout. Hoping Illini Nation shows up again today in even larger numbers!

Marcus, Q and first 35 minutes CoHawk all gonna bounce back today in big way. Ty, Dain, TSJ keep rolling. Cannot let Tominaga make 4+ from behind the arc.

My wife and I are hiking the Grand Canyon today so, this will likely be the first game I haven't watched in real time since December 11, 2019 when we beat Michigan.

I was in a small Costa Rican village called, Samara for that game. It's a very beautiful, pure, and peaceful place with few first world creature comforts. This part of Costa Rica is one of the world's five blue zones, meaning people here live noticeably longer than people from other parts of the world. Maybe not coincidentally, they are not big Illini fans so, when I went searching for a place to watch the game, the one establishment with a TV was not playing it and I had neither the linguistic skills nor the confidence to ask them to change their futbol game.

When I happened upon some cell reception the next day, I was surprised to learn that our fledgling Illini had defeated #5 ranked Michigan. I had not yet given my confidence to Brad Underwood and co so, at the time I just considered this a happy college basketball anomaly. Little did I know it would be a harbinger of things to come for the Illini (and for Michigan 😉).

I would propose to my wife later that day.

I do have a few tricks up my sleeve to try and see part of the game today but that will require good fortune, good timing, and good reception.

After this leg of the trip, my wife will fly back to Chicago and I will join some buddies in Vegas for the first weekend. If I in fact cannot watch the game today, I hope it brings good tidings just as it did on December 11, 2019. I just hope I'm not engaged on the flight home this time.
I had a similar experience in Costa Rica a few years ago. I was in the lovely oceanside town of Tamarindo with my son. The scenery was stunning, the sunsets spectacular. However I was unable to enjoy what should have been a sojourn in a sea of tranquility. I had brought my first world problems with me.
Purdue was playing the Beloved early in February of 2022. I was desperate to watch the game. Trying to stream the game was problematic so, like 21Champ, I sought out a plug to connect me to my cravings. I found that link at a bar that televised my game.
The Illni lost. Once again I was on an emotional roller coaster. My anxieties had traveled with me to Central America.
I found my salvation in a small casino that I visited after the game. Her name was China. With her help I was able to release, in what I would describe as a volcanic erupt, all of the tensions and disquiets I had brought with me. I was at peace. The Universe, if still not making any sense, became tolerable.
Pura Vida.

Decided to read a thread on the Minnesota board regarding the crowds at the Target Center. A lot of talk about the good Husker turnout, but one quote stood out!

“Illini easily have the 2nd biggest fanbase that traveled to MPLS.”

Reading a lot of Ohio St chatter, they feel the foul discrepancy was big in the outcome of the game last night. It’s hard to say, but some things are obvious whereas other calls are not as easy. .

NET 31, would be a middle Quad 1 win on a neutral court. Probably enough to get to a 3 with the teams above that faltered, huge implications for the Illini's Sweet 16 chances. Big game.
