NKU is a tougher opponent than SEMO. Not on the level of North Florida, NDSU, or Chattanooga from last year but still a slight step up. They are also a smaller team with a lot of newcomers so the game plan should be similar.

NKU won their opener by 40 against a d3 team

I grew up about 15 minutes from NKU here is what I can tell you about them...

1. There campus is called the concrete jungle because its literally all concrete and ugly
2. Its mainly a commuter school, about a 10 minute drive from Cincinnati
3. They used to be a solid D2 program, I think this is there first year there not on probation for transitioning to D1.
4. I will be very sad if Illinois loses this game.

Northern Kentucky has only five upperclassmen, so a young team overall as one poster already mentioned. They don't have a player taller than 6-7.

When Tracy drives and draws multiple defenders to converge on him in the paint allowing Mav to leak out for a nice 12-15 ft. J, it's a thing of beauty. Mav is a very underrated mid-range shooter.

This happened ONE time in the SEMO game where Mavs' shot was so pure it barely hit the rim. If we can make this a staple of the offense, the production will explode in my opinion. Opens up so many more things.

We've also been clamoring for Tracy to consistently do this since he was a freshman so I'm not exactly hopeful.

Without any real knowledge of NKU.......

ILL 89
NKU 64

Illini easily cover the spread. Malcolm and the big guys dominate. 2-0 start to the season.

Sounds like Mav should be able to keep it rolling. Looking forward to seeing him against a real big man at some point though.

Also, spread is Illinois -17.5 if anyone was wondering.

Fun fact.. NKU has a player named Jalen Tate. His brother is Jae'Sean Tate of Ohio St.

Spread jumped from -15.5 last night to -17.5, all that smart money jumping in on the Illini.:)

I cringe at the thought of Mav playing against a horse like Haas and the like. Mav is big, sure, but he is easy to displace and knock around without the fear of retribution.

3 things I want to see tonight:

1. A no doubter from beginning to end. Really hoping for a complete 40 minutes of effort from our guys.

2. At some point a lineup of TA MH DJW MF MM.

3. 10 minutes of playing time for Tejon

Mav's certainly not going to knock anyone around on the post, but he's developed into a really skilled and mobile big man. Is he going to back people down and dunk over them? No. But I'm hoping that quick spin and 12 ft jump translate against the B1G bruisers.

Mav had his best game last year against Diamond Stone & Robert Carter Jr.

He's serviceable. I liked it a lot more when I thought he was going to be backing up Thorne. The other way around, not so much. Hopefully Mike can get back in shape and be 100% by the latter stages of the regular season.

I think you might be underrating Mav. Mav has been a lot better than Thorne so far this season. I'm sure Thorne will improve as he gets in better shape and shakes off the rust, but I wouldn't be surprised if Mav holds onto that starting spot all year. Don't get me wrong, I love that we still have Thorne. He and Mav make a good power and finesse tag-team.
