We will win this game. Lovie, knowing we aren’t making a bowl, went vanilla today. Horseteeth wont know what hits them next week.

Love your passion.

Anybody for Cam Miller starting this week?

If Chayce Crouch is our only other option, then most definitely yes. Chayce has proven time and time again to be absolutely zero threat downfield and a poor decision maker in the pocket. We cannot win with him. Sorry, I'm sure he's a nice guy, but that's a true statement.

Sure, why not? 1. It would be harder for NW to game plan 2. Can't be any worse than what we have 3. It's got to be some kind of record to start 4 QBs in the same year... Let's go for history!

I think we’ll see Cam Thomas. You’re usually not out three weeks with a concussion.

I’m fine keeping him out and making sure nothing happens to him. Fitzee will have his team fired up and playing for bowl position.

It’s not like we’re playing for anything. Give Cam Miller the start and wait til next year.

I wonder what the attendance through the gates will be - depends on how many Northwestern fans make the trip. I’d be really surprised if it’s more than 10,000.

Lovie will play to win as he should. He will play the best qb available. I’ll be there along with the other 9999 people.

Heading down for my first Illini football game on Saturday. I've been to U of I/Champaign only a handful of times, visiting friends who went to school there during undergrad. I signed up for a graduate course in January at U of I, so I figured I would start to follow football/basketball more closely.

I'm not worried about tickets, they seem pretty cheap on stubhub no matter where you sit. What is my best bet for parking close to the stadium? Also, any recommendations for food spots after the game?

I look forward to talking some Illini football and basketball with you all in the future.

Lurker turned poster. I don’t think we’ll get the W this weekend, unfortunately. Thoughts on next years’ chances at 6-6? I know we have been playing tons of freshman, but I just can’t get myself excited. Is 3-9 the realistic outcome? When do the blowouts stop?

What blow outs are we talking about? The tOSU game and the USF games were the only blow outs and last I checked a good MSU team was blown out by tOSU as well. We kept Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Indiana and Purdue one score games into the fourth qtr and played Iowa more competitively than tOSU did. If we had any semblance of an offense (line and qb), we’d have won some of those games. Did you notice how much better our offense looked against tOSU’s subs? Might be some answers there.

I myself just started posting. Everyone here knows a heck of a lot more than Illini football than I, as I am just starting to really get into it.

However, just from peaking into games, the Illini desperately need a B10 caliber quarterback. Are there any on the roster right now? From what I can tell the answer is no. Hopefully Crouch is converted to a TE full-time this offseason as he definitely isn't a B10 QB. What is everyone on here's view on George? I know he's turnover prone, but does he have a B10 arm? Cam Thomas hasn't seen much action, but man he seems very small/skinny. Is everyone here hoping Rivers will come in and be the answer?

It all starts with a QB, and the Illini (IMO) don't have one right now. Hopefully they're able to solve that and soon.

I think this could be Chayce Crouch's last game for the Illini. He's on pace to graduate, and I think he might like to go somewhere that he can enjoy the field some his final season. I don't think that is FBS-level though, or even Missouri Valley.

I also think there will be some significant upper class transfers from some kids who have been recruited over, which will increase the Illini recruiting class by another 5 or 6 slots. From watching the team in practice over the summer, it was very evident that some of the squad members just have absolutely no business playing D-1 football. I'm not talking only walk-ons, but scholarship athletes that just lack agility, speed, suddenness, overall football ability.

Don't want to call names out on college kids, but lower down on the Illini depth chart you have a lot of kids who could benefit from playing at Illinois Wesleyan or North Central.

Just bought my tickets for Saturday. I'm sitting in 127, row 40. How far back/close to the concourse is that? I actually prefer to sit a little further from the field to get a better view of everything. Pretty excited to see my first Illini game, hopefully it turns out to be a good game.

I know the games may have been closer than the final score in some instances, but the final scores say it all for this season IMO...

USF (47) / Illini (23)
Neb (28) / Illini (6)
Iowa (45) / Illini (16)
Rut (35) / Illini (24)
Minn (24) / Illini (17)
Wisc (24) / Illini (10)
Pur (29) / Illini (10)
IU (24) / Illini (14)
OSU (52) / Illini (14)

Opponent avg score:34
:chief: avg score: 15
Avg margin of loss: 19 (3 scores )

Our closest loss to date is against struggling Nebraska. Purdue whooped us after a close game last year. Rutgers beat us by two scores at home. Wisconsin didn't put much effort into our match up.

If we had an average margin of loss of say 7, I'd be okay saying these were close games. The fact that it's 19 is disappointing, to me at least. I'll continue to be optimistic that Lovie can at least improve our current situation, but I doubt the Illini are even contenders for a top 3 finish in the west until 2020 or beyond, unfortunately.

Northwestern will beat us Saturday. Spread is currently +16.5 NW. Based on our performance this season, I say they cover.

Nice synopsis. On a gut level, at no point during any conference game did it ever feel to me like we had a chance to win a game. I think (maybe hope is a better word) that this will start to turn around next year. But thinking that we weren't that far off this year seems to fly in the face of what I witnessed. We have a LONG ways to go. I think 4 wins next year is likely a best case. Doesn't mean I'm ready to blow this thing up, but I did not see a team that belonged on the same field with any of the rest of the conference.

The thing is I think we’re not far from beating the likes of Purdue and Minnesota. If we have an effective qb and some line improvement we can move the ball and take the pressure off the D. A lot will depend on qb development.

Yes, it's the QB play but especially the lines that are what are keeping us from winning games against most teams. That and freshmen mistakes. At least two of those things will improve going forward over the next couple years. The line because they will be older, stronger, and more experienced, and the number of mistakes because, well, they'll no longer be freshmen.

If MJ Rivers is half as good as he looks right now in high school or Cam continues to improve we'll be alright in the other category, as well.

Lovie: There's nothing like rivalry, especially with where we are in our season with one game left. Some disappointing things have happened.

Lovie: We can't wait to play. Northwestern is having an outstanding year. Jackson is an excellent RB. Thorson done well at QB.

Lovie: After last week's effort, we can't wait to get on the football field.

Lovie: Cam Thomas "was close last week." We think he'll be good to go on Saturday.

Lovie: Can't complain about the effort we've gotten throughout. The story is we've played hard and not be able to finish games. But the effort has been there.

Lovie: No season-ending surgery or anything like that with Chayce Crouch. "Serious knee bruise."

Lovie: Jeff George Jr. making progress too.
