Line has settled in at Illinois -6.5.

Fun fact: Illinois, currently 2-3 in the division, has a chance to win 3 games vs the B1G West in a season for the first time ever on Saturday. Go Illini
I look forward to the day when we no longer fill the announcers stat sheet each week with things like this. Last week it was haven’t won at Iowa since 1990 something.

Would be really disappointing and inexcusable to lose this one, IMO! Gotta finish the regular season strong to keep some of this nice momentum for year 1 of the rebuild. We are simply a better football team, and even with some of the inherent disadvantages that we currently face in this game (NU for some reason having our number and the atmosphere for this one always being a colossal disappointment), we should beat them.

Shades of the Rutgers game came flashing in front of me while reading this. One we should win, but knowing Illini football for the past few decades, we won't.

Wins this year against Nebraska, Penn State, Minnesota, and (possibly) Northwestern would be a great building block for the program. Especially important to beat NW with the new-found emphasis for in-state recruiting.

Ignoring the rest of the season, beating Northwestern is already progress in my book. We play them every year, and we are 2-8 in our previous 10 meetings, with our last win coming in 2014 (and the other in 2011). Think about that for a sec.

We lose this one, and we will drop to 1-9 in our previous 10 against them. That's unbearably bad.

I recommend withdrawing the entirety of your 401k and betting on the Illini to cover.

This is incredible. I remember in the late sixties--post-Slush Fund--losing to Northwestern as the greatest shame ever. Now 2-8 over the last ten years. Yes, we must crush them, now and forever.

I grudgingly have to admit that I respect Coach Fitzgerald and the job he’s done at Northwestern. That being said we (Illini) owe him a substantial and decisive !!! whipping! When I see their smug smiles and Big Ten West title banners, my skin crawls. I try not to let it bother me. BUT it REALLY DOES bother me! Let’s make em pay!!!

He'd be in the NFL by now if he quit hiring his friends.

I’m turning bearish. Seems that we now have pressure (to win) on us once again, similar to the Purdue, Maryland and Rutgers games.

Fitz douses our bowl game aspirations. And Vegas knows/realizes this one is a toss-up if played on a neutral field.

8-3 this year in predicting winners. (Missed the UTSA, PSU and Minny upsets).
That’s good accuracy picking against us. Lol. Just razzing a bit.

I honestly can’t remember the last time we beat NW. Wrigley Field?
