I think Brad needs to limit Bam to 3 attempts per game.. no more. Bam keeps shooting like he thinks he is the best shooter on the team.. When in fact, he is the worst. Someone needs to tell him to stop chucking up 3s and trying to make no look passes. Feels like he also believes he is just as good if not better than KJ...

This game feels like a 78-52 rout. I don’t think Northwestern has the offense to hang around and Illinois is due to hit some 3s.
I think it's in the realm of possibility, since this team does have a lethal "kill shot".... but if Tomi isn't playing, I doubt it. This team has to get whole again.

The whole problem, as has been posted by many, is physical health. We can't know who is sick and how bad, or what the stage of their illness is. You can't be a team with sick players and expect to compete.

Trying to be glass half full going into Sunday. This team has so much talent, just need to put it together consistently (giving me 22-23 PTSD.) Just reminding myself we all knew there would be bumps in the road with this team. Would love nothing more than to see a gritty performance and a whooping put on the cats.

It's like deja vu from the Maryland pre-game thread, from lots of posters.

Even if the spirit is willing (big IF from some of the non-togetherness discussions here), will the flesh be weak? Only three days removed from whatever level of health was displayed Thursday - and that assumes all sick are on the rebound. Could be some still in the early stages now and worse Sunday.

Hope not but I'm still in a bad mood. And tired of feeling this way after losing to average teams.
Surprised by the result but Maryland is good. Northwestern is a team we should run out of the gym coming off a loss against them earlier and 2 straight losses.

heading into Maryland game these types of comments were made:
- Underwood doesn't lose 2 in a row
- Illinois will beat Maryland by 30
- Maryland 0-4 on the road

Similar comments about Northwestern - not confident losses are providing the learning experiences and/or motivation to play better.

Today 13-6 & 5-4 and IMO end 20-11 & 12-8
vs NW W 6-4
@ Neb L 6-5
vs Ohio St W 7-5
@ Rutgers L 7-6
@ minn W 8-6
Vs UCLA W 9-6
Vs MSU W 10-6
@ Wisc W 11-6
N Duke L Non conf
vs Iowa W 12-6
@ Mich L 12-7
vs Purdue L 12-8

I heard Piper and Werner say last night on their podcast that we are now second to last in Big Ten Conference play, only ahead of Washington, in three point shooting percentage.

That is what is most disheartening about the last two weeks, all three loses have been heavily influenced by poor outside shooting including two on our home rims.

Getting beat up inside without Tomi sucked to watch, and losing to Maryland again is so frustrating. But that method not easily replicable by teams outside of Maryland and obviously once Big T is back it won't be such a glaring issue.

But if the poor three point shooting stays around, that is what is most likely to spell our doom once the post season arrives. We built the team to be a bunch of great shooters and if none of them can hit shots, we are screwed.

We have the talent and shooting POTENTIAL to beat anyone, so I'm sure nobody will be eager to play us, but it's getting harder to believe we can play 4-6 straight games in March without a shooting slump.

We are a poor shooting team that jacks 3s....a lot. Bad combination.

The worst part is I think with the exception of 75% of Boswell’s threes the vast majority of the threes we take are really good looks. KJ can get wild with it but he’s a good shooter. But most everyone else isn’t jacking them but rather taking good looks, just missing them.

The past two games that has changed a little.

My worry for this one is even if we do get healthy by Sunday, those guys will have not been practicing so still will have an impact. Need to find a way to win regardless

The offense will just stagnate for extended periods of times with way too much standing or dribbling in place before launching a bad 3 pt attempt.

Shooting a bunch of 3s is fine but shot selection matters. They need to be working to penetrate, move the ball, or work inside out to put some pressure on the defense to create an open look.

They often times look way too much like bad NBA teams who just come up the court go iso and then launch a 3.

Realistically the only the guy on this roster here should be shooting off the dribble from 3 is Kasparis and he should really limit the amount he does it. But instead we're getting guys like Boswell and White taking heat check 3's when they aren't even on a heater.

I want players diving for loose balls, smack talking, Underwood getting called abusive or anything else that can show that we’re not soft. Someone show them some of the old Cincinnati/Xavier rivalry games and hope that toughness rubs off on them. God it need to be Sunday already..

Losses are starting to pile up... BAD losses are leading the way... IMHO

Just freaking win. Period. Let's win these next 6-7 games and get to full health for the month of Febraury. Febraury is going to be a huge month of basketball for these guys. Dial in now!
If we can’t have a good Febraury, there’s no hope for Maurch.

I do feel for those guys with the flu, it’s terrible… but we have used about every excuse in the book. Hopefully that means smooth sailing after this. Maybe there is a transfer wall like a freshman wall these kids hit. When it comes to March, it comes down to who is invited and who gets hot

Feels like a pivotal moment. A win and maybe you get back on track. Lose, and things start looking pretty bleak the rest of the way. Let's hope they come out with some fire AND a decent game plan.
