I'm still mad about all of the tomahawk punches thrown at Ayo. I don't think I am exaggerating when I say "tomahawk punches."
100% biblically accurate phrase. Did it to Kofi as well.

Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a trend. I think MSU as a whole are probably pushing 100 times at this point. It’s not some fan bias either, they’re trying their best to take the mantle of dirtiest team from Duke.

Since we're talking MSU pregame...

MSU feels like the most winnable of the 3-headed Purdue/Neb/MSU away-game monster, especially after seeing the jumbo package with double Ivisic, Mirk and Humrichous on the court. This completely clogs the lane and forces MSU's few shooters to take tough 2's or 3's, which at this point Hummer and Wagler seem more than capable of defending on the perimeter.

It seems like MSU has had trouble with any team with a real front court.
MSU will get away with 2nd degree Murder in this game and that will be the majority of their game plan. Can assure that 1 or more of the following will be officiating: Baldhead, High knees, or Scirotto. All 3 would be a nightmare

My guess is this one is a comfort game team W. We actually hit shots at home and rebound, Wagler sub 20 and 5 in double figures.

Michigan State game next scares me though, ..... they will look to hurt Wagler. I've see it too many times, when Michigan State is out matched that's their "plan".

I would be so curious to hear Brad's thoughts on all of this behind closed doors. On one hand, he seems like he would join the usual chorus of praise for Izzo ... on the other, it is almost certainly not lost on him that MSU has played some thug ball, with the Ayo injury being specifically bush league.

If the game were volleyball and Ayo's face was the ball, it would have been a perfectly legal play.

tonight's game is not a trap game........the Illini don't have trap games as an EDG mentality encompasses our thought process throughout this season and we then play our scheme to a T to get an 11 game winning streak and a 19-3 season record right now......I firmly believe we would extract revenge on uconn and bama if we played them now......

my worthless prediction is.......................

ILLINI 87

LET'S GO ILLINI !!!!!!!!!!!!

Lol...Keaton might have the thickest skin of any player playing at that level I've ever seen. Dude is unflappable. He ain't got no time for shenanigans.

He's thinking about one thing and one thing only right now....bringing the Illini their first Natty/sweeping all major awards.

Apparently it is addressed in NCAA rule:

From the official NCAA Men's Basketball Rules Book (e.g., 2023-24 and recent editions, Rule 1, Section 1, Articles 2-3):
  • Each team shall warm up and shoot during the first half at the basket farthest from its bench. This is standard: The home team selects bench locations (typically one sideline), so the visiting team gets the far basket for the first half (and warm-ups).
  • The teams shall change baskets for the second half. This is explicitly required—"shall" means it's mandatory, not optional.
Thanks for checking. It did seem this way from memory. It make sense there is a rule for it.

It's a style of play - physical, owning the boards, borderline dirty until it is dirty. Izzo definitely has had a few enforcer types over the years. Watching them against Michigan, I got the sense that they leaned into it more as they were getting beat.

That said, I don't think Brad, pizza-hut-parking-lot would criticize him behind closed doors for how he goes about it. Teaching toughness means living with an occasional over the line play. We've had a few here, and I don't think BU believes Izzo tries for dirty plays, even if any given play might be. YMMV

What little I've seen of them, this is a very good, but not great MSU team. KP has them 10th overall at a very respectable +30, with the #2 defense in the country. I think the way we spread the floor we match up well. As with all Izzo teams, I wouldn't put it past him to punch above his weight come NCAA tournament time. 7 of the last 10 Natty's were in that +30 group on KP, and the lowest was Kansas at +27.5 in a year where there wasn't a heavy favorite.
