16%? Just do it.

I know a lot of people aren't crazy about how we have to get through seven games before our first bye week, but...

Given Bret's record coming out of bye weeks and the importance of that Washington game I don't think it could have been placed any better.

Wait you don’t like the same playlist from 10 years ago with bad songs from 10 years before that? The Red Grange race is kind of cool if you are in the stadium but totally agree with the need of something unique. Maybe someone could do a dance at midfield at halftime. That would be cool and unique.
What if on defensive 3rd downs we had the band play a song that gets the whole stadium up and clapping in unison with their arms raised above their heads. That would create an intimidating atmosphere for the opposing team's offense. Maybe we could name the song "3rd Down Chant". Who could take offense to that?

RIP to the no-brainer idea of putting temp bleachers in front for this huge game. What could have been!!

DIA could have definitely sold all of any added temporary south end zone bleachers for the OSU game. Maybe 1,000 seats at $100 ea. = $100K Would think they'd be interested in that. And they could probably sell many, if not all of them again for the Rutgers Dad's Day weekend.

Is Matt Bailey healthy and able to play this week? I noticed he did not play in the 2nd half again against Purdue

I have 3 main goals, objectives for Saturday. 1. Don't get blown out. 2. Come out of game and into by week healthy. 3. Put on a great competitive effort for a National TV audience and recruits.
I swear I'm not asking to much fans. I also hope do to OSU defense. We have 2 to 4 step slants and screens all day long to slow down their Defensive line. Let's not get our boy Luke killed. 🙏 🙏 😊

don’t get me started on that
3 staff member could have made it a project for 5 weeks and they could have made $250,000 over 3 games .

but no .
and in both end zones they could have likely made )$500,000 over 3 weekends

At lunch today I went to the uniforms thread and saw the back-and-forth concerning our orange unis. I recalled a game ~ 2008 (it was, in fact, 2008) when we played OSU at home and wore the O/O/W combo. Loved that combo, though we lost. In the course of looking for photos of our unis from that game (I found a whole gallery... check it out on the uniform thread) I ran across the video below.

2011 was the nadir of OSU football. Jim Tressel had been forced to resign over players selling memorabilia for $$$ (how quaint it seems today) through a Columbus drug dealer under investigation by the Feds. Luke Fickell, 37 at the time, took over. He was ill-equipped as a HC and the following season was a clown show for OSU. Unfortunately, as many of us recall, though they came to Champaign in October when we were 6-0 and ranked in the Top 20, we lost. We somehow lost to them. There began the final act of The Zooker's Illini tenure.

I still have a bitter aftertaste from our trip to Bloomington three weekends ago and the 90 minutes of horror we sat through before we hightailed it to the car and escaped the incoming rain. However, I'm mindful that we live in a relative golden age of Illini football. If anyone for a moment isn't grateful for BB and what he has created in Champaign, please watch this video. Yes, of course it's not the Worst Game Ever. We all know the game that holds that title. Anyway, watch this, drop to your knees, and give thanks for what we enjoy today. Then marvel at just how meatheaded clock mismanagement can be in the hands of a true virtuoso.

at least they have an identity. What is Illinois' identity when it comes to gameday atmosphere and fan involvement? We have to establish something to take the next step in my opinion. Some programs have awesome entrances, tailgate experiences, light shows, drone shows, jump around, etc...

We currently have nothing to hang our hat on and it doesn't seem that the gameday experience personnel are trying anything new. The entrance is lame, the air raid siren to start the game and half is lame and the tailgate experience is sub par unless your donate or pay out the a$$ to be in one of the premier lots.

Trust me I am not bashing our program/experience I just know it can be better and expect it to get there if we want to take the next step.
Bashing or not, I agree with you. We could definitely use some fresh ideas on Saturdays.

Just had time to watch for 1st time game against Purdue, woof. Defense is either not talented or coaches are not teaching correctly. Right before halftime the 24-7 lead goes to 24-14, 60 yard bomb.
Well, the corner which was on weak side of the field press coverage basically standing on out of bounds line next to our coaches. Blitz from that position 15 yards away from Purdue Qb. As the ball is snapped 15 yards away.
Weak side safety, in a coverage 2, literally acts and reacts as though he did not know our Db's was gonna blitz. Gets caught flat footed, then does a 360 degree turn as Purdue Wide out simply runs by him and down Illinois sideline. A Safety 15yards off the ball. Gets ran by!
I do not know what is going on but that is absolutely horrible and my high school kids do not and will not ever look that pathetic in coverage.
Play before our strongside linebacker blitz on a incomplete pass play that Purdue simply dropped from 8 yards off the ball. As the ball was snapped. So are we actually Running Delayed blitz packages from 8 to 15 yards back now. GMAFB. Horrible.

Edit- wow it was Miles Scott -Captain that did the 360 circle as Purdue WR simply ran a straight route.

October 5, 1985
Illinois 31, #3 Ohio State 28
Attendance: 76,343

This is listed as the largest Memorial Stadium attendance on record for an Illinois-Ohio State game. Fans were treated to 72,000 orange poms poms from radio station K-104, handed out before the game by a consortium of Illini fraternities and sororities. The game also featured a 360 degree panoramic photo taken from the south end zone by a photographer from Memory Lane Photography, as the entire stadium rose and waved their pom poms at the end of the first quarter. The scoreboard in the background read Illini 14, OSU 0. Here's to a similar outcome on Saturday!
Superb post!! And it just might have been a year in which we were actually favored to win -- especially at home. (A nice little 15-year stretch of success we had there. 1985 was in the middle of it all.)

If you want a snooze fest, sure. The war chant on third down was the worst part of the iconic Chief symbology.

Wasn’t loud.
Wasn’t intimidating.
Looked stupid.

In my 22 years of season ticket holding, that’s the #2 thing I’m happy is gone.

Can we go back to the ILL - INI chant being bounced back and forth between the East and West bleachers? It just doesn't work going from North (students) to South/rest of the stadium. They also need to make it happen at a set time/moment every game so everyone knows what's going on. First defensive possession of the 2nd half appeals to me. This would get fans active and engaged making noise when the opposing offense is on the field.

It should never happen when we are getting ready on offense, this is something Illinois fans, Illinois DIA and Bears fans need to learn. It should be library quite when we are trying to operate. To many of ours fans want to get loud on 3rd and short when we are on offense and it should be the opposite. Building a program like Bret is will educate our fans and get us to that point one day.
