I thought yesterday's officials were quite favorable to us and let us play physical. Hopefully we get the same crew
After, foolishly, reading an Iowa board, I'm interested in having a discussion about the rules of phsycial play in basketball. It appears to be an issue that causes much consternation and confusion amongst all those involved in the game. At all levels.

I wonder what is going through Alan Griffin's mind today. Sweating it out to see if his team will make it into the tourney, while his old team is all over the news and playing for a championship. Guess that's what happens when you value getting yours more than team success 🤷‍♂️
Yeah, especially since Grandison is starting in essentially the same role.

Kofi's ability to seal off big men to create lanes to the hoop for our guards is just so beautiful and really underrated. He had one yesterday that was one of the best I've ever seen (on Garza of all ppl too) and gave Curbelo a wide open lane for a layup. Kofi's passing may leave a lot to be desired at times, but if you count his seals as assists (they're so effective they should be), we'd have another guy averaging 3-4 assists on the team.
What also helps is our willingness to reverse the ball. We typically see a great seal by Kofi and a better entry pass when we do.

I cut him some slack. He was a solid player for us last year and I truly worried about replacing his offensive contribution this season.

It seemed to me that his move to SYR had to do with his mom. It's tough separating from your parents and becoming your own man at that age. I wish him well and hope that playing there yields what he's seeking.

This team is really making excellent passes, like the Belo passes to kofi down low from the top of the key and then the one where he passed to Ayo on the backdoor cut for the slam....
I thought the 2005 team was the best passing Illini team ever, but belo and Ayo have me wondering , along with all the others this year....

Still wondering who the refs will be.......

You really can't go wrong with a GIF of the marionettes from Team America: World Police.

Belo's bounce pass to Ayo while lying on the floor was just sick. I felt like I was watching Hoosiers crossed with the Globetrotters.

The most amazing thing about that pass to me is that he had the instantaneous mental ability to know a bounce pass up to Ayo allows him to continue his momentum to the basket...rather than stop to pick up a rolled pass. His instincts are already next level. He's made the sophomore jump already and when the game totally slows down for him...like it has for Ayo.... Look. Out.

He's had some great games at Syracuse and some rough ones, like their loss to UVA the other day where he only got 12 minutes after a couple of bad plays seemed to affect his defensive intensity. Boeheim has called him out more than once over this.

Overall, Alan's production-per-minute is almost exactly what it was here, only he's getting 32 a game there as opposed to 18 here. If that's what he and his family feels he needs to give him a shot at the NBA, more power to them. Grandison, who knows what it's like to be a dominant player at a smaller program, chose to be part of a great team and I think everyone has benefited. To each their own.

Something I was thinking about last night was how good this team can be on the boards. Against OSU last game they got a little sloppy but normally what we see is all 5 guys attacking the defensive glass. You almost never see anybody leaking out early in transition until the rebound is secured. The defensive possession doesn't end until you get the ball back.

On the other side I don't think we give enough credit to how good we are offensive rebounding and still getting back in transition. BU has really put in a nice system, the 5 and 4 attack the offensive glass and the other 3 get back early and build a triangle. We got to see a little bit of that in one of the practice videos that was posted awhile back. It puts a lot of pressure on the other team to rebound while still protecting from easy leakouts and transition buckets.

For OSU:

This is there 4th game in 4 days. With their first 3 games being fairly close. Without one of their top players, which impacts depth.

Whereas this is just our 3rd game in 3 days. With the first game being a 22 point win, while we rested our starters.

I don’t see them running with us for a full 40 min.
