I honestly think our OFFENSE getting off to a decent start will be extremely important to stopping Pickett, as well. It seems that way too often when an opposing player goes off on us, we are in a huge funk on offense, turn it over or throw up a brick quickly, have to rush back on defense again and seem to be discombobulated.
I've said before (and I think others have too) that there is a causal relationship here, but I actually think it's the reverse of what you've outlined. When we're in an offensive funk (great band name btw) we lose focus and intensity on defense which allows other players to get hot. Ideally we would have the defensive intensity from the start and throughout. And the offense would feed off the defense. But I dont think that's how it has worked for us this year.

(Not saying your way is wrong or I'm right, just my read on the situation)

We have 4 guys that can guard Pickett. Coleman, TJ, Ty and RJ
I’d throw Matt in there over every guy except maybe Coleman. He doesn’t provide much resistance in terms of Pickett getting to the spot he wants but I think he makes up for it in shot blocking. Nobody on our team is preventing Pickett from getting to his spot, he’s just too good. The way you slow him down is to contest every shot without fouling and I think Matt does a good job of that. I also think Matt falls asleep guarding guys like Funk or Lundy and it’s probably better you keep him engaged with someone who is going to have the ball in their hands.

Here we are at the end of the regular season and there are so many poster's who still misspell his last name........

RODGERS.............................if I was a player on a college BB team I would HOPE that fans knew how to spell my name correctly and it's not grammar police or anything like that and I'm not calling out ANYONE , but please check and make sure you spell their names correctly.......It's a sign of respect for the players playing on our favorite team ............Cool beans ......carry on .....solid...peace out...
Rodgers. The D is for defense

Illinois will win if they play defense on their man and have confidence in their teammates doing the same. Help defense against Penn Stat gets you beat if they are hitting threes. One must stay on their own man.

I think BU realizes that a line up with
TSJ
RJ/Goode/Ty
Mayer
Hawkins

Is a match up nightmare for other teams. Everyone can handle the ball run the floor rebound and drive. Depending on the night everyone except Ty has shown they can shoot the 3

I believe a combination of that line up has done well all year plus Epps and Harris can sub into that line up and play a little smaller but faster

IL - NW would be an entertaining game at United Center.

‘Chicago’s Big Ten Team’ vs. Chicago’s OTHER Big Ten Team on the hallowed floor of Chicago’s OTHER, Other Basketball Team.

In other words... a great year to house the Tournament on West Madison Street. The House that Michael built and Ayo gets to sharpen his craft in while delighting his hometown fans.

Sorry, Penn State. Pennsylvania’s just got no place in this one.

How have other teams stopped him? They've got like 12 losses or something and he averages something like 20 a game. Goodness, are we the only team that doesn't have the ability to hold him to 20 points?
Heck, I'd feel good if it was only 20! He's averaging 30+ against us, one being a 40 piece. If he goes nuclear on us again, it'd fall on BU. We tried to play him straight up twice....didn't work(king of the obvious ).The guy beat us twice this year....have to get the ball out of his hands.

Another way to defend Pickett. Have Conner Serven come off the bench and pick a fistfight with Pickett so they both get kicked out of the game.

R = Rebounds
O = Offensive rebounds
D = Defense
G = Gets after it
E = Elite (duh!)
R = (more) Rebounds
S = Stud

Don't see this one falling out way. Need movement on offense. Cutting, driving, or both. Can't run the first half offense where 4 guys stand in one spot and watch the fifth guy haphazardly dribble around going nowhere. Then jack up a long three and let the opponent rebound and get a run out.

If we want a 7 seed or any significant tournament run, it runs through Coleman. Coleman needs to guard Pickett, and he needs to bring the ball up the floor. He needs to be our everything from here on out. Kid is an absolute stud & the best player on our team.

I’d agree that he’s probably the most important piece/X factor but TJ and Matt are still probably our best players

Pickett is too strong for Harris. Harris would be in foul trouble and with our lack of depth at guard we need him badly on the offensive side of the ball.
Agreed. Pickett will bang him down the lane till Harris is standing under the rim and he is shooting a layup. It was one of BUs post-game comments about college BB allowing bigger guards to back guys down by just banging while they try to hold ground.
