A lot of talk about what it’s going to take to stop Pickett, but should also remember this Penn State team has some GLARING weaknesses. Dead last in the country in offensive rebounding %. Literally, dead last. Need Ty Rodgers on the floor giving them no 2nd chances. If Dain’s in the game: rebounding. Penn State also forces like no turnovers, yet we’ve been giving it away at will lately. Yes, we need to come out with energy, but we’re gonna get our looks on the offensive end if we play smart and take care of the basketball.
Great points. Thank you

I think we put TJ in Pickett and lock down on everybody else. He’ll get his points but TJ will make him earn it

We really just need to execute offense - we were terrible in the first two which led to easier offense for PSU.

The only good news is we didn’t show them anything to prepare for in the first two games!

I don't recall any BU team fronting a player, yet for some reason, I was expecting Dainja to play denial on Edey with one long arm in front of him the entire time.

"We should run a zone" has replaced "We need to start player x", "Brad yells to much" and "I wish Podz was still here."

At least we mix things up here at Illinois Loyalty.

The actual number of differing opinions on what we need to do , what we should do and why we aren't doing what the posters opinion is that will cure the ills of the beloved.........

I love how the bandwagon will latch onto an opinion such as playing zone and then micromanage that opinion where it seems like a more in depth opinion of the basic principle of just "" we need to play zone "".................

BU passed more knowledge of what we need to do down the crapper this morning than the accumulated knowledge of all that post here.........

BU is...............................

1.......Our coach and has brought respectability back to the O & B men's BB program....
2.......Won more games over the last 4-5 years than any other B$G coach by a wide margin,,,,
3.......Accumulated more road wins , by far , than any other program in the same time frame....
4.......Carries himself well in the media circles and gives honest pressers , taking blame on himself for not doing more to help the lads win.......furthermore , he tells it like it is such as " we had no effort or not enough effort "" holding the players responsible for their role in less than noteworthy game play..........

I remember the Weberball days post 2005..................I remember the Groceball days .......I don't want to have those performance days to ever return to the Fighting Illini program..........

I am a believer in what BU and staff are doing for the Illini Nation and I hope he retires here with a couple Natty's in his back pocket..........That would be grand...............it really really really really would.........

Illinois Fighting Illini men's basketball guard Jayden Epps returned to working out on Monday, according to Illinois head coach Brad Underwood.

"Jayden went into (concussion) protocol today, which is a good thing — into concussion protocol," Underwood said Monday on "The Bradwood Underwood Show" radio broadcast. "So he had to get back to kind of his base. So he's progressing, and everything with protocol is day by day and how you react to what you do the day before, so we'll see. He worked out today, and so we'll see how he progresses."

Watched the Penn State-Maryland game
Picket had 16 points and did not really attack the basket like he did in the last game agasint us.
They were 10/37 from three.
They may not be as athletic as some teams but they have multiple shooters.
Defense will need to rise to the occasion.

I dunno, I think it’s pretty basic. The Illini are a poor 3-point shooting team. A team can’t consistently win in the current era of college basketball without quality 3-point shooting. Maybe a team can get hot for a game or two, but that’s it. The Illini are not suddenly going to become a consistently decent 3-point shooting team. Sadly, my expectation for the Illini’s win ceiling in the BTT and NCAAT is two games at best. We need better shooters next year.

Come out strong (for once please lol) and we will win this game
What's interesting is that I remember the first Penn State game being one of the few Big Ten games where we actually started off strong offensively. Unfortunately the defense was so bad that PSU matched us shot for shot and then pulled away when we cooled off.

Here's hoping they can finally put all together for a full 40 minutes.

Daring a bunch of 40+% 3pt shooters to beat us with open threes will likely end very poorly for us. PSU is 7th in the nation in 3pt shooting percentage, and they have very high volume shooters. We do this and I'd be shocked if they didn't burn the nets down and run us out of the building. When a team is as efficient shooting threes as they do twos, your top priority needs to be running them off the 3pt line as they've shown they're extremely good at making open looks behind the arc.
Made 10/37 threes against Maryland, almost half their total points, and it seemed they were not shooting particularly well, a lot of near misses.

So we should do the same as the last two games and expect a different result?

I had an idea about how we could help contain Jalen Pickett

Would double Pickett and make them beat us with threes. Rest of team was 7/19 from three in last game.
