PSU going to be ice cold from 3. Pickett will keep them in the game, but Goode will come up big off the bench going 4/6 from 3.

Illini -66
PSU- 58
Can’t tell you how happy this would make me. I think it will be important to play with energy early and get the crowd into it and then feed off of that in a circular equation of sorts. At Braggin’ Rights, our crowd was SO ready to get into it, and we never got the chance and it just kept making things worse as the guys got demoralized.

It seems to me that the team has left clues all season as to where their strength lies. When they play with urgency they look utterly fantastic, which is why they have had so many 2nd half comebacks after falling way behind. When they play straight up they are an average team, prone to lethargy. Why not do balls out pressure to create an artificial sense of urgency?

If someone could come up with the answer to this dilemma they would crack the secret to Life itself. Why are some people just possessing of a great personal motivation all from within? And why do others need to be encouraged and prodded to bring out what’s inside? The human factor.

As you point out... for some reason this collection of Illini talent needs some kind of external challenge to bring out their best. And no doubt Coach has tried to get that kind of urgency out of them probably all season but humans don’t have an easy ‘On’ switch to flip.

At this point, the Tournaments are all the motivation any player should ever need. Players know what the Bright Lights mean to the program and to themselves personally.

But the Illini do need an attitude adjustment from prior years when they hit the floor way too tight and uneasy. Fast and loose... fast and loose. The only way you can succeed in this game.

I really do not feel good about this one.
Pickett leads all scorers with 28 and PSU with a double digit cake walk win.
Please prove me wrong in a few hours men, I am begging you.....

I never throw out the ILL to someone because i’m never sure i’m going to get the return INI.
The opposite is true for me, Jimbo. I ALWAYS throw out the I-L-L whenever I see anyone in Illini gear. If he or she answers back I-N-I, great because we spread our brand. If they don’t, ever the teacher, I go up to them, say hi, and nicely and enthusiastically educate them with the correct I-N-I response, also spreading our brand. I’ll take as many fans into Illini Nation as I can get. :illinois:-L-L

I've been hoping that people at Bulls games would start responding to Ayo (I-O) with I-N-I. Aside from advertising, I suspect Ayo would get a kick out of it.

I always I-L-L anyone in Illinois gear. I do it softly, just loud enough for them to hear, as though we are already conversing, and we're members of an exclusive club and that it's not for lesser mortals to hear. I get the I-N-I back about 50% of the time. The other 50% of the time, I excuse on the assumption that they just didn't hear me

I'm not worried about this game. I do think we'll win because we're the better team (although I've thought the same thing and was wrong about that twice this year). But more than that, for me it's not even a big deal if we lose. The stakes aren't that high, in my opinion.

You nailed something important: we consistently jack up 3s despite not shooting them well because....we don't really have other options. Mayer and Shannon can slash, but neither is consistent from mid-range (and we don't have an excellent shot at getting their misses; both Ayo and Kofi are sorely missed!).

Still, I'm optimistic. We (generally) play well at home and have performed above-average on neutral courts.
I don’t understand. 1.)Either you are saying we don’t even have a structured offense in place…2.) Or we don’t consistently execute a structured offense…3.) Or you are saying we lack the offensive skills do anything but shoot 3’s?

I don’t know how to say this and not sound kinda snarky…so sorry for that…

But 1.) No, 2.)Sometimes, and 3.)No

1.) Do you not see the open looks we get generated by the Spread? (That’s the play working) That’s what what happens when being coachable and execution intersect.
Sometimes it’s a secondary option, or a counter but it’s something that usually generated directly off Brad’s X’s & O’s.
I don’t know where it is at now. Brad claimed in an old DVD at SFA/OkS…that just out of the base Spread stuff…his teams averaged 7-10 pts a game off the first cut alone…and that tracks pretty well with many of his teams here. I can’t speak to what that number is now that he’s been in Bigten for 6 yrs; and has been scouted to death. But that’s damn efficient!

For brevity’s sake I won’t talk about the second cutter, or the pinch post or the two man game…but it it’s sound stuff too.
The same with the more quick-hitter stuff…X series/Zoom…nifty actions…good basketball. It works!

2.) He doesn’t put them out there and just say: “ okay, go freelance!” This isn’t a Doug Moe team from back in the day. I don’t wanna get roasted…but top to bottom this is just not the most coachable team Brad’s ever had. That’s seems pretty obvious at this point. (They’re kinda of a pain in the butt sometimes, frankly.) They don’t always execute…and they don’t always look to attack…and they settle too much…and sometimes they just straight up don’t play team ball.

3.) Last summer all I heard from several on this board was how we were all gonna be 1-5, an avg. height of 6 foot 8 and we were gonna be playing, up and down, facing the basket…it was basically gonna be just like D’Antoni drew it up…and it was gonna be a wide open game…we didn’t need a traditional post or ANY post feeds at all,
for that matter really. (I said was garbage then and it’s garbage now.) Anyways…No backing a guy down on a mismatch…No running your offense through the post. ALL we needed was athletes who could just “penetrate” and “go get one” whenever. Some were practically shooing our two All-Americans out the door. Kofi was too lumbering and he made us one-dimensional etc etc. (and he did to a point)
But, I had real problem with that one as well…and now you’re saying those guys are missed. It’s just amusing to me that it has gone full circle. 😂

But I gotta say if you aren’t uncomfortable with Shannon as a scorer or his ability to get down hill who would you be comfortable with? Iverson? I mean his handles are a little sloppy and he isn’t Mookie Blaylock…but he’s lightning quick and he CAN finish through contact.

Do we know who the 3 blind mice are for tonight's game?

Not yet, but the B10 always uses 4 different crews during the Quarters so it looks like we dodged Larry S and Courtney Green today for sure. Unfortunately Kelly Pfeifer still on the table. I want to say DJ is doing this OSU-Iowa game but not 100% positive.

Lol fair.....I guess I'm the "teacher" that expects you to do your homework!

:illinois:LL
All my former students knew they had to do their homework in my classes, or they wouldn’t pass. If the person doesn’t answer with an I-N-I, he or she probably did not go to U of I, thus, he or she didn’t sign up for the class and had no homework. He or she is probably a very casual fan, but is a fan nonetheless (who obviously buys merchandise and might go to a game), and I’m glad to have every fan we can as part of Illini Nation, including casual and fair-weather. Now let’s go win this game!
:illinois:-N-I!
