I am worried BECAUSE I’ve watched a lot of Illini basketball. Not so much about tonight, but in general. I did some prelim research and this program has lost to a lower seeded team thirteen times in the NCAA tournament. 13. You’d think we’d have come up with a few upsets over the years to balance that out, perhaps? Twice. Two times we’ve beaten a higher seed. But have been upset 13 times. Where this is headed feels imminent; the same feeling we all got on Saturday when we knew they’d make it close, only to fall a couple possessions short.

B1G opponents not named Minnesota have shot 44% from deep in OUR gym. Falling asleep early does more than putting you behind; it gives dweebs like Ahrens the confidence to take/make what were arguably not very smart shots in that second half. 44% as a team would be good for #1 in the nation, btw - in all games, not just away games. That absolutely has to end tonight. Still I watch, and I hope. 6 - 3 start ain’t bad if you can ignore our particular context. Go Illini.
That dweeb is shooting 53% on the year from three.

Agreed that he is no "dweeb," but he shot 60% against us. Not only is that above the average you listed, but it also drove that average up (i.e., he shot even higher above what his average was at the time). Also, it probably doesn't help the perception that we let him go especially off that the three-pointers he made were especially clutch and/or back-breaking to any hope of an Illini rally. :(

I don't remember every one of his shots in the second half but the one's that I do remember were open shots resulting from running the floor ahead of our defense.

Just out of curiosity, as anyone here actually bet on this year’s team? I can’t recall an Illini team that I’ve had less of a feel for from game to game than this one. I’d be broke If I’d tried to bet on them. 😬

Bet the under, 3 scenarios. 1. Illini win by more, be happy that they won. 2. Illini lose, at least you get paid. 3. Illini win, but don't cover, be happy with win and get paid. I do remember the shame in cashing my ticket after the Virginia Tech game in the 2007 tourney. I was so much happier when we were up 8, and I was losing the bet.

Yeah don't get me wrong he is shooting it this year. He's also a career 3.5 ppg scorer who does NOT play starter's minutes. He hit two in the final 8ish minutes. One of them was off a curl+dribble to his left - tougher than a wide open catch and shoot. One of them (not sure if the same one) was under the 5:00 mark and EARLY in the shot clock with an 8-point lead. Like - if that were my team I'd hate it until it goes in.

Ahrens is hot and gaining confidence....shot 4 of 5 3p their game before ours.

I have the beloved at 30:1 to win it all and at the beginning of the year I thought that was a decent bet but now I'm not so sure. A whoopin' on PSU tonight (and a glass of single malt) should calm my nerves! :shield:

Let's find out if Ayo is really a leader on this team. He started something in the second half of NW...but apparently left it in Evanston.

If floor slappin' anger results in halves like that....I'd say he needs to start something like that again tonight. It's only corny if it doesn't work.
